Drake Hogestyn, the beloved actor best known for his portrayal of John Black on “Days of our Lives” has died. He was just 70 years old. Hogestyn passed away on Saturday, September 28, just one day shy of celebrating what would have been his 71st birthday, after losing his battle against pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones. “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn,” said the Hogestyn family in a statement. “He was thrown the curve ball of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination. After putting up an unbelievable fight, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones.” “He was the most amazing husband, father, papa, and actor,” the family statement continued. “He loved performing for the ‘DAYS’ audience and sharing the stage with the greatest cast, crew, and production team in the business. We love him and we will miss him all the Days of our Lives.” Born Donald Drake Hogestyn in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on September 29, 1953, Hogestyn joined the cast of “Dyas o four Lives” in 1986, playing the roles of John Black and Roman Brady on the popular NBC daytime drama series. Throughout his nearly 40-year run on the series, he played opposite actress Deidre Hall, who plays Marlena Evans on the series. The pairing was known to fans as “Jarlena,” and was recently named the 12th Greatest Couple of all time by Soap Opera Digest. The publication also awarded Hogestyn and Hall for Favorite Couple in 2005, with Hogestyn also winning the award for Hottest Male Star in 1994 and 1995. He received additional nominations in the category in 1997 and 1998. Just four days shy of celebrating the 21st anniversary of her on-air debut on “General Hospital,” actress Kelly Monaco taped her final scenes as Sam McCall on Friday, September 27. “I want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly’s incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty, and support you’ve shown her throughout her time on ‘General Hospital,'” said Monaco’s real-life mother, Carmina, in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), announcing the heartbreaking news. “On this final day, just four days shy of the anniversary of her first episode on October 1, 2003, Kelly will close the door of her dressing room for the last time,” Carmina continued. “This moment is a difficult one, but knowing that she has had such an incredible, devoted fan base has given her strength. Closing out the 2023-2024 broadcast television season, ABC’s “The View” (2.393 million; 1.7 HH rating) was once again the standout performer among Total Viewers during the week of September 16-20, 2024. Not only did “The View” attract its largest overall audience since the week of July 22-26, 2024, but it was also the show’s best performance during the third week into a television season since the third week into Season 24 (week of September 21-25, 2020). “The View” was up +118,000 viewers over its week ago performance, and up +133,000 viewers over its performance during the comparable week last year. Further, the daytime talk show was up +226,000 viewers over its performance during the same week in 2022, and up +8,000 viewers over its performance during the same week in 2021. Among the key sales demographics, “The View” was virtually on par with its performance one week earlier among Women 18-49 (0.18 rating vs. 0.19 rating) while flat week-to-week among Women 25-54 (0.28 rating). That said, compared to the same week last year, the talk show was down the most among all daytime broadcast shows among both demographics. General Hospital Despite the carriage dispute no longer impacting DIRECTV subscribers when it came to accessing the ABC Owned Television Stations, “General Hospital” (1.818 million; 1.2 HH rating) saw week-to-week declines across the board. The character names released today are the official names of the characters. No way a big release like that would be revised within hours from a post on Instagram. I believe Michele posted an older screenshot she took off of her computer screen with the headshots of the three actresses shared as part of a family tree. I believe the character names she has under them are the names of the characters at the point they auditioned or were submitted for. No information at this time as the premiere date is no longer penciled in for January. As I previously stated, it is now just "early 2025." That could still end up being in January, or it can be anytime through even April. We'll know more about scheduling once we know an official premiere date.

Right. Didn't catch that one before. So, "Jessica" (now Nicole) and "Sam" have a daughter named "Allison": “Allison” is described as Black, female and in her mid- to late 20s. She’s the miracle baby that Jessica and Sam never thought they’d have. Not surprisingly, Allison has been indulged all her life. She’s spoiled, as a result. She can be dismissive towards those she considers beneath her. Confident and secure, Allison doesn’t like sharing. It is valid. I agree. My earlier response was not meant in any way to invalidate that. My earlier reply was only meant to say that Black comes in all varieties and that at least in the case of Karla, she's as Black as me. I am far from "light skin." The light-skinned people I've seen heavily used on TV typically are those who are either mixed race or very similar. I expect with additional casting announcements, we'll even see some darker skin compared to the ladies, but overall, Black is still Black.

Anita is definitely Betty based on the description of "Patrick." If the Jacksons were the core family described previously, then yes, Dupree is their new family name. Name changes happen for a lot of reasons, including the retitling of the show's name, but I have a few suspicions about why they changed it from Jackson.

I'm still trying to figure out what the hell the official name is for the CBS/NAACP Venture. They always refer to it by "the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture," which makes no sense in terms of a business name. I wonder if they'll just call it CBS Studios/NAACP Venture Productions or something like that. Or if it will be CBS Studios in one card, followed by NAACP in another. It's so weird. That being said, I LOVED the PGP closing. It was the only way I felt the episode of their dramas was truly over for that day's airing.

What's good about Anita is that she is a Diana Ross-type character with a singing background, and Tamara can sure as hell pull that off as she also sings. As I said to someone when I got wind of the news yesterday, I wouldn't be surprised to see The Gates release a "Music from the Series" soundtrack (Season 1) with Tunie and others singing, possibly. It would be a great marketing tie-in and would fit the culture very well.

Beyond The Gates will be available on Paramount+ at launch. I believe in territories without Paramount+, original series are available on the local Prime Video service.
