SOD is ending it's weekly print edition
It's too early to tell, but it looks like TV Guide is picking up the mantle for the discontinued Soap Opera Digest. The latest issue has a two-page spread on the four daytime dramas with articles/interviews written by Michael Maloney, formerly of Soaps In Depth and currently at Soap Hub. Maloney also freelances for TV Insider (an online news site for TV Guide) and Variety. He's a great writer. He also wrote the book on Y&R with Lee Phillip Bell. Example: Congrats, Michael!

ARTICLE: Celebrate Thanksgiving Day in Port Charles With An All-New Episode of ‘General Hospital’
For the first time in several years, ABC will air an all-new “General Hospital” episode on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 23). In the past, the network would air encore episodes on the holiday that helped provide important context to current storylines taking place on the series at the time. However, this year will be a special one, as noted by ABC’s current series executive, Nathan Varni, who oversees “General Hospital,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” Station 19,” “The Conners” and “Will Trent” for the network. “Bonus! This year, we’re happy to give you a brand-new episode of #GH on Thanksgiving day! Spend your holiday with your friends in Port Charles! Happy Thanksgiving!” said Varni on X (formerly known as Twitter), in response to the show’s weekly promo which highlighted that Thanksgiving is gonna be full of surprises. In the episode, Lois’s (Rena Sofer) mother, Gloria (Ellen Travolta), makes a visit to Port Charles as Thanksgiving begins in Port Charles. Hopefully, this time, the Quartermaines will finally get some Turkey with the help of Mama Cerullo. Meanwhile, Robert (Tristan Rogers) has a surprise for Anna (Finola Hughes), who is still reeling from her shooting Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez). Speaking of Charlotte, Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) gently confronts his daughter. Across town, Kristina (Kate Mansi) invites Blaze (Jacqueline Grace Lopez) to Alexis’s (Nancy Lee Grahn) house for Thanksgiving at the Davis house. Will the two continue sparking? Finally, Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and Cody (Josh Kelly) are put on the hot seat when asked if they are dating. Check out a preview of the Thanksgiving episode below, along with this week’s promo. “General Hospital” airs weekdays at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT on ABC. In select markets, the show airs at 3:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT. The show is also available to watch On Demand on Hulu. Soap Opera Network has learned that the Monday, November 27 episode of “The Talk” will feature the leading men of “The Bold and the Beautiful.” The episode will see Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter), Scott Clifton (Liam), Tanner Novlan (Finn), Matthew Atkinson (Thomas) and Joshua Hoffman (R.J.) appearing as guests as they discuss what’s happening on the show with their characters. Also appearing on the show will be chef Duff Goldman, who stops by to discuss his new series “The Elf on the Shelf: Sweet Showdown” and will cook for the hosts. While not unprecedented, this marks the first time since the show launched its 14th season in October that “The Talk” will feature guests from “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Lauralee Bell, Michael Damian and Eric Braeden from “The Young and the Restless” have already made appearances this season. During his pre-taped appearance on Veteran’s Day, Braeden discussed his real-life battle with bladder cancer and the scene that made him realize he wanted to continue playing Victor Newman on the daytime drama series. Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Sheryl Underwood, Jerry O’Connell, and Natalie Morales host “The Talk.” Rob Crabbe is the show’s new executive producer, taking over from Kristin Matthews who announced her departure over the summer. ARTICLE: ‘The Young and the Restless’ to Air Classic Episode from 1993 on Thanksgiving Day
As revealed in this week’s preview, “The Young and the Restless” will air a classic episode on Thursday, November 23 (Thanksgiving Day) in place of an original. The 1993 episode chosen by producers is very telling as it seemingly provides a backstory to the current umbrella storyline involving the return of J. Eddie Peck into the role of Cole Howard and the introduction of “As The World Turns” alum Colleen Zenk as Aunt Jordan. Originally aired on February 4, 1993 on CBS, episode #5044 sees Ryan and Nina (Scott Reeves and Tricia Cast) run into each other at Gina’s, and the two decide to have dinner together. Victor’s (Eric Braeden) secretary, Connie (then played by Kathleen Fitzgerald), informs him that Eve Howard (Margaret Mason) is passing through. Later, Traci (Beth Maitland) stops by Lauren’s (Tracey E. Bregman) for old-time sake. The two trade barbs over Brad (Don Diamont). Meanwhile, Nicholas (then played by John Alden) asks Victoria (then played by Heather Tom) why she is at home and not with Ryan. Finally, Eve shows up at Victor’s door. Programming Note: “The Young and the Restless” will not air on Friday, November 24 due to CBS Sports coverage of SEC and Big 10 football games. Among these are Iowa at Nebraska and Missouri at Arkansas. The daytime drama series returns with all-new episodes on Monday, November 27. YR return
Thanks. I'm currently storing too much information in my head and I must have gotten my dates wrong.
-
YR return
I presume the official CBS promo department hasn't gotten around to doing a decent one for him yet since he hasn't aired yet (he airs today). I also presume someone on the set did the video and quickly edited something on a basic video editor. Again, my presumptions.

Thanksgiving 2023
Slightly off, off topic. I was going to create a thread for this, but I'm hijacking yours. Haha. Be prepared for any last-minute "drop the news before Thanksgiving" headlines to come out today. The day before Thanksgiving is the best time for Hollywood to drop the worst news regarding deals, cancellations, etc. What tv/movie will get that treatment this year? Stay tuned!

The scenes are very funny. It was so wonderfully written and I actually went up to Josh [Griffith, executive producer and head writer], who was on set, and said, ‘I recognize your writing. Thank you very much because this is fun.’ It reminded me of the early days when he was on the show and he turned Gloria into high drama. The character was shot and killed by a mystery figure on the Friday, November 17 episode. Find out more about why the show wrote his character out here. ARTICLE: Cameron Mathison Signs Multi-Year, Multi-Picture Deal with Great American Media
“General Hospital” star Cameron Mathison (Drew Cain) has signed a multi-year, multi-picture deal with Great American Media, where he will star in projects across the company’s portfolio of platforms, including cable networks Great American Family and Great American Living, plus streaming service Great American Pure Flix. Mathison has already starred in two movies for Great American Family, “A Merry Christmas Wish” and “A Kindhearted Christmas.” Courtesy of Great American Media “Cameron Mathison is one of entertainment’s most prolific and cherished stars and has a resume that is respected across the industry,” said Bill Abbott, President & CEO, Great American Media. “Having collaborated with Cameron on many past projects, I am thrilled to welcome him home to Great American Media and look forward to working with him on content that our viewers will love for years to come.” “It is very important to me to create well-crafted, beautiful stories,” noted Mathison. “I am grateful to be back at Great American Media and to collaborate with some of the best creative teams in entertainment to make heartwarming content everyone can enjoy.” Mathison first made a name for himself in 1997 when he joined the cast of “All My Children” as Ryan Lavery. He remained with the series until it concluded its run in 2011. Later, he went on to star in several Hallmark movies, primarily opposite Alison Sweeney (“Days of our Lives”) in the “Hannah Swensen Mystery”/“Murder She Baked” series. With Sweeney signing a multi-picture deal with Hallmark Media last year and Mathison now signed with Great American Media, the future of the “Hannah Swensen Mystery” series is currently in doubt. This year alone, the two co-starred in the movies “Carrot Cake Murder” and “A Zest for Death,” both under the “Hannah Swensen Mystery” banner. “A Zest for Death: A Hannah Swensen Mystery” aired in October on Hallmark Channel. Outside of acting, Mathison has spearheaded multiple projects as a host, including SOAPnet’s “I Wanna Be A Soap Star,” the weekend edition of “Entertainment Tonight,” and the morning show “Home & Family” for Hallmark Channel, among others. He’s also been a special contributor for “Good Morning America.” At press time, there was no indication that Mathison would be departing his role as Drew Cain on “General Hospital.” He joined the series in August 2021. Deadline first reported Mathison’s deal with Great American Media. GH: Leading Man Out
Thank god Sarah turned down that role. Marty Freakin' Saybrooke would have become another "what's her name" to me and we can't have that. Thank god Susan Haskell came back, but at the same time I was disgusted that she became obsessed with Todd, her rapist, and went psycho over him. Gross.

GH: Leading Man Out
OMG! Really? I don't remember this. Yikes!

GH: Leading Man Out
That's why I hate soap hopping. You'll never be as successful as your noteworthy character. Sarah Brown is one of my all-time favorite actors and she's never been able to recapture the magic of OG Carly. Not with Claudia, not with what's her name on As The World Turns, what's her name on The Bold and the Beautiful, or what's her name on Days of our Lives. Heck, I still don't know what's her name on Studio City. Her Carly was just that impressive!

GH: Leading Man Out
What gets me is ABC saying "enough is enough." First, they wanted Franco dead, so Frank decided to keep Roger by giving him another new character. Now the network says, "kill that character, too. Oh, and we're not going to offer any more contracts to him," referencing Roger.

ARTICLE: Roger Howarth Exits ‘General Hospital’; “Storyline-Dictated” Decision Cited As Reason for Departure
After a Friday cliffhanger that left fans wondering who shot Austin on the Friday, November 17 episode of ABC’s “General Hospital,” portrayer Roger Howarth has formally announced his exit from the daytime drama series after the network reportedly declined to offer him a new contract. Howarth first joined the cast of the show in March 2012 when he and his “One Life to Live” character relocated to the West Coast. In a post on Instagram, Howarth shared messages for the show’s fans and to the cast and crew, first saying, “Daytime fans are lovely and amazing and supportive and dedicated and I am deeply grateful to each sparkly one of them.” He added, “I enjoyed my time at ‘General Hospital’ and wish the cast and crew the best and continued success. It was a pleasure working with you all. Life is amazing. We just don’t Ever know what’s gonna happen. How great! Turn toward the light. Always. Huge thank you to you all.” Speaking with Soap Opera Digest about his exit, Howarth revealed that he was informed by “General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini ahead of time about the network’s decision not to renew his contract when it came up for renewal. He said, “Well, several weeks ago, I got a phone call from somebody I’ve known for a very long time who I love very dearly telling me that when my contract was up at ABC, I would not be offered a new contract and that the character of Austin would be killed, and that this was something that both wanted and needed to do to move story. “And it took me a minute to kind of adjust, to kind of hear the news; it took a second for me to let that settle in. And then, immediately, I realized how lucky I was to have been able to do something I really love doing for more than a decade with people who I really enjoyed working with. I’m a lucky guy. I had a great run and this was a decision made by people who make these kinds of decisions for a living. For me, I felt it was very much like the scene in ‘Moneyball’ and Jonah Hill had just told me I’ve been traded. I feel very respected and supported. For a long time I’ve enjoyed coming to work, learning lines and saying them with really cool people.” Having joined the series’ cast in March 2012, shortly after concluding his run on “One Life to Live,” Howarth went on to play a recast Franco Baldwin, a role first portrayed by James Franco, due to his being forced out of the Todd Manning role after ABC was sued by Prospect Park Networks, which had licensed the character for its online reboot “One Life to Live.” Several years later, Franco was killed off and the show once again decided to bring Howarth back as another new character, this time as Austin Gatlin-Holt. “I don’t feel like I’ve been slighted in any way or that there was bad juju around these decisions,” Howarth said to Digest of the show’s writers and their decision to write out his character. “I think that the writers and the producers and the directors work really hard to entertain a really loyal and dedicated audience and I hope that they succeed in thrilling the audience for another 60 years. I will say this: I’m really proud of myself — like, totally truthfully, honest to God, I always tried my hardest. So for me, ultimately, there’s no loss. I know I did everything I could.” When asked if he’d ever want to play another role in daytime, Howarth notes, “One hundred percent. Thanks for asking [laughs]. Yeah! I’m an actor. I love acting. If somebody’s gonna ask me, I’m gonna go! I’m gonna get in the car.” For more from Howarth on his exit from “General Hospital,” including his comments on each of his three characters, check out his exit interview with Soap Opera Digest by clicking here. No. Only "The Price is Right" moved from Television City so far. Fremantle, which owns both it and "Let's Make a Deal" has a studio in Glendale which they moved both shows into. The soaps have not announced their plans for moving as yet. It's possible the move will happen in 2024 though.

Where was this reported that they moved? Unless JPI is just lazy, photos from episodes taped in October have them still at Television City. In fact, J. Eddie Peck did a photo shoot from there last month outside the studio.

RIP: Tyler Christopher has passed
It's a relevant story. I personally haven't posted an article on any of what's since come to light because it's disturbing on both sides. I'll only report relevant information. Now, that doesn't mean I can't comment on it here on the message boards, but that is in no way an expression of me as a journalist. Those are just my personal opinions.
