ARTICLE: CBS and NATAS Announce Performers and Presenters for ‘The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards’
We’re just days away from “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards,” airing LIVE Friday, December 15 at 9:00 p.m. ET/delayed PT on CBS and streaming live and On Demand on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME* subscribers, and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has formally announced performers and presenters for Daytime’s biggest celebration. “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” Courtesy of CBS First up: Shemar Moore (“S.W.A.T.,” “The Young and the Restless”) reunites with Susan Lucci when he presents the iconic actress with the Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1999, Moore presented Lucci with her landmark first Daytime Emmy Award after she had been nominated in the Lead Actress category a record 19 times for her portrayal of Erica Kane on “All My Children.” After opening the envelope that would note Lucci’s name, Moore famously stated, “the streak is over!” in what has become a frequently cited line and one of the greatest awards show moments in history. In addition to Moore, other presenters throughout the evening will include stars from “The Bay,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Days of our Lives,” “General Hospital,” “The Talk” and “The Young and the Restless,” along with Lifetime Achievement Award winner Maury Povich and his wife Connie Chung, who both will make a special appearance as they present the Gold & Silver Circle honorees and the In Memoriam tribute, respectively. Grammy Award winner and Emmy nominee Jennifer Nettles is set to perform “Life is Sweet” for the In Memoriam segment, which pays tribute to the stars and contributors in the daytime field whom we lost this past year. The song originally premiered on the Daytime Emmy-nominated television show “American Anthems” and is also nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for original song. Presenters scheduled to take part are as follows: The Bay A Martinez Kym Whitley The Bold and the Beautiful Don Diamont John McCook Heather Tom Days of our Lives Mary Beth Evans Drake Hogestyn General Hospital Finola Hughes Donnell Turner Laura Wright The Talk Akbar Gbajabiamila Amanda Kloots The Young and the Restless Lauralee Bell (Y&R), Peter Bergman (Y&R), Michael Damian (Y&R) Melody Thomas Scott This year marks the 17th time CBS has broadcast the Daytime Emmy Awards, more than any other network. The show will broadcast live from the historic Westin Bonaventure Los Angeles. Note: *Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers will have access to live streaming via the live feed of their local CBS affiliate on the service, as well as On Demand. Paramount+ Essential subscribers will not have the option to stream live but will have access to On Demand the day after the special airs. ARTICLE: Brad Sanders, Best Known as “Clarence” in ‘The Clarence Update’, to Reprise Soap Loving Role on ‘The Young and the Restless’
Best known to millions of CBS daytime fans as “Clarence,” a cool, well-dressed character with an extensive hat collection who provided a streetwise summary of soap opera highlights each week, actor Brad Senders is set to reprise the role on “The Young and the Restless” when he makes a special appearance on the Wednesday, December 27 episode of the daytime drama series. A comedian, actor and writer, Sanders is best known for the radio soap opera “It’s Your World” and for portraying Clarence in the popular series “The Clarence Update,” for which he received two Daytime Emmy Award nominations as writer/performer in the New Approaches in Daytime Entertainment category. He shared the nominations with “The Bold and the Beautiful” head writer/executive producer Bradley Bell and supervising producer Casey Kasprzyk. A Chicago native, Sanders attended Columbia College where he majored in television and radio production. After college, he moved to Los Angeles to further his career. Sanders is the owner and president of Babysitters Productions, the company he founded in 1989, which produced “The Clarence Update” and another online feature, “An Inside Look at the News Inside the News,” a news/comedy segment. As for “It’s Your World,” the show was a fully produced short-form radio soap opera that aired daily on the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” for over 16 years. Co-created with comedian Myra Jay, “It’s Your World” showcased Sanders’ writing and production talents and was a national hit. Outside of the entertainment industry, Sanders co-founded “Be Good to Women Day” in 2003 alongside Deya Smith in response to the thousands of letters, phone calls and emails he’d received from abused and discouraged women. The annual prayer vigil and community forum is designed to honor women while addressing their safety and health issues. “Our mission: To eliminate negative words, images, and behaviors toward women and girls while promoting equality, respect and love through education and advocacy,” Sanders said of the purpose of “Be Good to Women Day.” He added, “Women are essential to the wellbeing of humanity. Women provide love. Nobody loves like a woman.” In addition to “The Young and the Restless,” look for Sanders to appear in the upcoming movie musical, “The Color Purple,” which is set for release in theaters on Monday, December 25. B&B/Y&R: Upcoming December 2023 Spoilers
Right. That's why I asked if people got laid off or something. It is odd. This makes it two weeks in a row we don't have a promo (as of this writing). Usually the promos are out on Saturday or Sunday mornings. The B&B promo stands out in that it was done in house. Just curious if something more is going on than we know.

B&B/Y&R: Upcoming December 2023 Spoilers
Did CBS go cheap all of a sudden? Starting with Colleen Zenk's joining the show, CBS seems to be giving up on properly coordinated promos for the soaps. When I say properly, I mean the network having a promo department that does this as their job. Did CBS/Paramount conduct layoffs recently? Or is this just because of the holidays? It just seems odd, IMO. Maybe I'm imagining things...

2023 Writers + Actors Strike Thread
I was told she wrote for the show during the WGA strike, hence why she went Fi-Core. I'm just noting that I don't recall right now why I wrote "current" story consultant in the article @janea4old referenced from June that I wrote.

2023 Writers + Actors Strike Thread
Re-reading the article I don't know why I used the word "current," but I just checked her IMDb page, and I vaguely recall it looking different than it does today, meaning it still listed her as a story consultant but now it says she was there only through 2019. It could be why I used "current," or I accidentally wrote it. I just really can't recall right now. Taking out the word "current," everything else lines up though.

ARTICLE: CBS to Broadcast the Complete Third Season of ‘Yellowstone’ in January
After airing the first two seasons as a stopgap due to the now-concluded dual Actor’s and Writer’s strikes that impacted Hollywood for the greater part of six months, CBS recently announced that they will continue broadcasting episodes of “Yellowstone” with season three scheduled to air primarily on Sunday nights throughout the month of January. Beginning Sunday, January 14, CBS will broadcast the first three episodes from season three from 8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT and another three episodes on Sunday, January 21 during the same broadcast hours. On Sunday, January 28, CBS will air two hours of the series from 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT, followed by the final two episodes of the 10-episode third season airing on Monday, January 29 from 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT. Having reached nearly 33 million unique viewers since it began airing Sundays on CBS, “Yellowstone” is averaging 5.04 million viewers per episode (Nielsen Most Current Persons 2+) and ranks as the #1 entertainment program on the night. “Yellowstone” chronicles the Dutton family who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds and hard-earned respect, the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders – an expanding town, an Indian reservation, vicious business rivalries and America’s first national park. The second half of the fifth and final season of “Yellowstone” is expected to begin production in the spring, reports Deadline, citing the weather as one of the big factors determining the schedule as the show shoots “largely outdoors in Montana and would need to wait for the winter to be over.” The series stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the family patriarch. The cast includes Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bently, Cole Hauser and Kelsey Asbille, among others. MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios produce the Taylor Sheridan and John Linson co-created series. John Linson, Art Linson, Taylor Sheridan, Kevin Costner, David C. Glasser and Bob Yari are executive producers. The “Yellowstone” episode schedule is as follows: Sunday, January 14 8:00-9:00 PM 301 “You’re the Indian Now” 9:00-10:00 PM 302 “Freight Trains and Monsters” 10:00-11:00 PM 303 “An Acceptable Surrender” Sunday, January 21 8:00-9:00 PM 304 “Going Back to Cali” 9:00-10:00 PM 305 “Cowboys and Dreamers” 10:00-11:00 PM 306 “All for Nothing” Sunday, January 28 8:00-9:00 PM 307 “The Beating” 9:00-10:00 PM 308 “I Killed a Man Today” Monday, January 29 9:00-10:00 PM 309 “Meaner Than Evil” 10:00-11:00 PM 310 “The World Is Purple” Watch the Season 3 “Yellowstone” Announcement below. ARTICLE: ‘Station 19’ to End With Seven Seasons on ABC
The upcoming seventh season of “Station 19” will be the show’s last, ABC announced today. The decision is said to have been made early on in production to allow the show’s writers and producers to craft a proper ending for the “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff. Launched in March 2018 as a midseason replacement on ABC’s Thursday night schedule during the “TGIT” era, “Station 19” was a utility player for ABC throughout its run and eventually became the network’s second most-watched primetime drama series, only behind its mothership series among Total Viewers. The series follows a group of heroic Seattle firefighters who put their lives and hearts on the line as they take viewers inside the tough, tight-knit and sometimes heartbreaking world of the city’s bravest first responders. The seventh and now final season of “Station 19” is set to premiere on Thursday, March 14, following the 20th season premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy.” The series aired at 8:00 p.m. during its most recent sixth season but will end its broadcast run airing at 10:00 p.m. According to Deadline, the final season will consist of just 10 episodes, including the historic 100th episode mark, with the series ending at just 105 episodes. Produced by ABC Signature, Krista Vernoff has served as showrunner and executive producer of the series since the show's third season but will be handing over the reins to Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige with season seven. The show was created by Stacy McKee, with Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Clack, Alexandre Schmitt and Paige serving as executive producers. ABC Signature is a part of Disney Television Studios. “For seven seasons, ‘Station 19’ has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to Shonda and Betsy’s incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “With Zoanne and Peter at the helm of the upcoming farewell season, we have so much to look forward to, most notably the celebration of the show’s milestone 100th episode.” “Station 19” stars Jaina Lee Ortiz as Andy Herrera, Jason George (“Sunset Beach”) as Ben Warren, Boris Kodjoe as Robert Sullivan, Grey Damon as Jack Gibson, Barrett Doss as Victoria Hughes, Jay Hayden as Travis Montgomery, Danielle Savre as Maya Bishop, Stefania Spampinato as Carina DeLuca, Carlos Miranda as Theo Ruiz, Josh Randall as Sean Beckett, Merle Dandridge as Natasha Ross and Pat Healy as Michael Dixon. ARTICLE: Freeform Cancels Scripted Dramas ‘Cruel Summer’ and ‘Good Trouble’
Freeform has decided to cancel its two remaining scripted dramas. The network will not move forward with another season of “Cruel Summer,” which concluded its second season last summer, while the upcoming second of the current fifth season of “Good Trouble” will be the show’s last. According to Deadline and Variety, which first reported the news, “Good Trouble” will be given the opportunity to wrap things up with its characters via a supersized series finale. The cancellations of “Cruel Summer” and “Good Trouble,” a spinoff of “The Fosters,” sees Freeform without an original scripted series on its schedule for the first time in quite some time. In November, the network also canceled the animated comedy “Praise Petey.” “Cruel Summer” concluded its 10-episode second season in July. The network at one point touted the series as its most-watched original on Hulu. The season two premiere was watched by 2.6 million total viewers across linear and digital platforms based on the first 7 days of viewing, making it Freeform’s No. 1 telecast in 2 years — since the “Cruel Summer” season one finale in June 2021. Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, season two of “Cruel Summer” followed the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan (Sadie Stanley), Isabella (Eloise Payet) and Megan’s best friend Luke (Griffin Gluck), the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward. KaDee Strickland, Lisa Yamada, Sean Blakemore (“Greenleaf,” “General Hospital”) and Paul Adelstein also starred. The show was executive produced by Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple (“The Sinner,” “Candy”) through Iron Ocean Productions and from studio eOne. “Good Trouble” stars Cierra Ramirez, Zuri Adele, Sherry Cola, Bryan Craig (“General Hospital”), Emma Hunton, Tommy Martinez, Josh Pence and Booboo Stewart. Following a group of 20-something residents of Los Angeles’ The Coterie, the upcoming second half of the show’s final season will see the roommates facing their toughest obstacles yet as they’re confronted with evolving relationship challenges and new career opportunities. Through highs and lows, romance and heartbreak, The Coterie crew will lean on each other while they navigate the next stage of adulthood. The series is executive produced by Joanna Johnson (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), Christine Sacani, Greg Gugliotta, Jennifer Lopez, Benny Medina, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Cierra Ramirez. Johnson also serves as showrunner. Next up for Freeform is the launch of unscripted series Chrissy & Dave Dine Out,” starring Chrissy Teigen and David Chang as they take viewers to must-try restaurants in Los Angeles that are unexpected and, at times, off the beaten path. While David gets his hands dirty in the back of the house with the restaurant’s chef, Chrissy and Joel Kim Booster hold court in the front of the house, hosting an always loose, unexpected and entertaining dinner party with undeniably delicious food and great conversation. Glad to hear that. More changes to come.

Is there a new italic uppercase S on the tab now?A
I released a new logo for Soap Opera Network and the Soap Opera Network Community earlier today. As part of the branding, I also updated the favicon to use a simplified "S" since you could not see the full logo in your address bar. This change is part of a larger visual experience being released in the near future. A favicon is an icon that appears in your address bar that helps web users identify which website they are on or would like to go back to among the windows/tabs they currently have opened in their browser. For reference, the "S" is actually lowercase.

ARTICLE: ABC News and WMUR-TV to Host Republican Presidential Primary Debate From Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire
In coordination with the New Hampshire Republican State Committee, the next Republican presidential primary debate is set to take place on Thursday, January 18. ABC, through its ABC News division, and in conjunction with Hearst Television affiliate WMUR-TV, will air the debate from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, just days after the Iowa caucuses, as attention turns to the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire primary the following week. “ABC News is excited to host this Republican debate with our partners in the nation’s first primary state of New Hampshire,” said ABC News President Kim Godwin. “Our powerhouse political team has been working hard on this debate to provide our audience with the opportunity to hear from the candidates at this decisive moment in the primary race.” “WMUR-TV has a long history of producing debates in New Hampshire and doing them right. ABC News has been our strongest partner, and we look forward to a successful New Hampshire Primary Debate with them and our other 2024 debate partners,” said Andrew Vrees, president and general manager of WMUR-TV. “The New Hampshire Institute of Politics and Saint Anselm College are delighted to continue the long-standing tradition of partnering with ABC News and WMUR-TV in hosting the New Hampshire primary debate,” said Neil Levesque, executive director of New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College. “On the eve of the New Hampshire primary, presidential candidates of both parties have graced our campus and made their case ever since 2008 and in every presidential cycle since then as voters here are about to cast their votes.” “The New Hampshire Republican State Committee is looking forward to working with our partners at ABC News, WMUR-TV and St. Anselm’s College for a New Hampshire Republican presidential primary debate subject to RNC guidelines,” said Chris Ager, chairman of the New Hampshire Republican State Committee. More details about the debate, format, qualifications, moderators, as well as ABC News’ coverage will be announced at a later time, the network noted. The fourth Republican debate was held on Wednesday from Tuscaloosa, Alabama and aired on Nextstar’s NewsNation. The telecast drew 1.6 million viewers on the news network, the largest in its history, with another 2.5 million tuning in through a simulcast on The CW. The debate was the most-watched program aired on The CW since 2018. The debate was moderated by Elizabeth Vargas, Megyn Kelly and Eliana Johnson. Among Adults 18-49, NewsNation attracted 350,000 viewers in the demo while The CW had nearly 500,000 viewers in the key news demographic. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie appeared in person at the University of Alabama, looking to position themselves as a viable alternative to former President Donald Trump — the dominant GOP front-runner. Overall, just over four million viewers tuned into the debate between NewsNation and The CW, a drop from the 7.51 million viewers who watched the November 8 debate that aired across NBC, its news networks and digital and streaming platforms. On NBC alone, the debate was seen by 6.86 million viewers. “NewsNation was incredibly honored to host last night’s debate, and we are very pleased that so many viewers tuned-in and watched,” said Sean Compton, President of Networks for Nexstar Media. “This debate represents a remarkable achievement for a cable news network that is just barely three years old. We’re very proud of the NewsNation team, the great job done by the moderators, and the overall production. In the end, the real winners last night were the nation’s voters.” Note: The post ABC News and WMUR-TV to Host Republican Presidential Primary Debate From Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. ARTICLE: R.I.P. Ellen Holly — First Black Person to Star in a Daytime Soap Opera Dies at 92
Best known for her portrayal as Carla Grey on “One Life to Live,” a role that marked the first time a black person had starred in a daytime soap opera, actress Ellen Holly has died. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, New York. She was 92 years old at the time of her death. “She was a pioneer in daytime television. Starring on ‘One Life to Live’ for 20 years. Playing Lawrence Fishburns [sic] mother on the show. She appeared in several movies, and performed on stage with the greatest black actors of her generation. Sidney Poitier, Harry Beafonte, Cicely Tyson, Robert Hooks, [and] James Earl Jones, to name a few,” said Holly’s cousin, Grant Shipp, in a post on Facebook. “You had ‘One Life to Live’ and it was amazing Life. You were simply one of the best. Now you know the secret. God rest your soul.” Born January 16, 1931 in Manhattan, NY to parents William Garnet Holly, a chemical engineer, and Grayce Holly, a housewife and writer, Ellen Holly was part of a prominent Black family that included her paternal great-grandmother, Susan Smith McKinney Steward, the first African American woman to earn a medical doctorate (MD) in New York State and the third in the United States. Holly’s great aunt was Minsarah Smith Thompson Garnet, a suffragette and the first Black female principal of a New York City school; Minsarah’s husband, the Rev. Henry Highland Garnet, an abolitionist who was appointed Minister (ambassador) to Liberia by President James A. Garfield; her great-grandfather the Rev. James Theodore Holly, the first African American to be ordained a bishop in the Protestant Episcopal Church and a prominent missionary to Haiti; and her great-great grandfather Sylvanus Smith, one of the leaders of the movement urging Black people to purchase land in Kings County, New York, in an area later known as the Weeksville settlement and a landowner there. Additionally, Holly’s maternal aunt Anna Arnold Hedgeman was the first Black woman to be in the cabinet of a New York City mayor (Robert F. Wagner Jr.), one of the lead organizers of the March on Washington and a founding member of the National Organization of Women. Growing up in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY, Holly became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. during her college years at Hunter College, where she graduated. Later, she began acting on New York City and Boston stages, earning instant critical acclaim. She made her Broadway debut in “Too Late the Phalarope” in 1956, and she went on to star in the Broadway productions “Face of a Hero,” “Tiger Tiger Burning Bright” and “A Hand is on the Gate.” From 1958-1973, she led productions of numerous Joseph Papp New York Shakespeare Festival productions. Throughout her years in the theater, she worked opposite such luminaries as Roscoe Lee Browne, James Earl Jones, Jack Lemmon, Barry Sullivan and Cicely Tyson. Holly also studied with dance pioneer Katherine Dunham and was passionate about the role of dance in revealing the richness of African-American culture. Prior to her groundbreaking role on “One Life to Live,” Holly’s television credits included “The Big Story” (1957), “The Defenders” (1963), “Sam Benedict” (1963), “Dr. Kildare” (1964) and “The Doctors and the Nurses” (1963 and 1964). Holly was personally chosen for the role of Carla Grey by “One Life to Live” and “All My Children” creator Agnes Nixon, who had read a New York Times opinion piece that Holly wrote called “How Black Do You Have To Be?” which talked about the difficulty of finding roles as a light-skinned Black woman. As the first time a Black person starred in a soap opera, it was a watershed moment, coming as it did during the turbulent and racially divisive 1960s. Her character’s attempt to come to terms with her racial identity and her love triangle with two doctors — one White, the other Black — helped launch viewership of the nascent soap opera into the stratosphere. With Holly appearing in the pages and on the covers of publications like Newsweek, TV Guide, Ebony, Soap Opera Digest and The New York Times, daytime television soon exploded with Black storylines being featured on “All My Children” and “General Hospital,” which helped ABC dominate daytime for two decades. In later years, Holly spoke out about being underpaid and other mistreatment she claimed she and some of her fellow Black cast mates received from show executives despite their contributions to the show’s success. After exiting “One Life to Live,” Holly went on to appear in a recurring capacity as a judge on “Guiding Light” from 1988-1993. The one-hour special features new interviews with stars of the long-running comedies Lear created, including Jimmie Walker from “Good Times” and Mackenzie Phillips from “One Day at a Time,” along with never-before-seen interviews from the “ET” vault. Also included with this new footage and interviews is an in-depth sit-down interview with Lear that “ET” host Kevin Frazier conducted when Lear celebrated his 100th birthday, in which he reflected on his lengthy, groundbreaking career. “Norman Lear: A Life on Television” replaces the previously scheduled episode of “The Price is Right at Night,” which features college students home for the holidays. The episode will now air on Monday, December 11 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, followed by the season premiere of “Big Brother Reindeer Games” airing at a new time, 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. Lear was an iconic screenwriter and producer who produced, wrote, created and developed over 100 shows, including creating and producing such favorites as “All in the Family” (1971-1979), “Sanford and Son” (1972-1977), “Maude” (1972-1978), “Good Times” (1974-1979), “One Day at a Time” (1975-1984) and “The Jeffersons” (1975-1985), all of which aired on CBS. His shows introduced political and social themes to the sitcom, the network noted. Throughout his career, Lear received numerous awards, including six Primetime Emmy Awards, two Peabody Awards, the National Medal of Arts in 1999, the Kennedy Center Honors in 2017 and the Golden Globe Carol Burnett Award in 2021.
