B&B/Y&R: Upcoming December 2023 Spoilers
Thank you for pointing that out! I was wondering how the hell I didn't have that photo with Winsor cause I thought I was going crazy for a minute when I saw you share that photo a few pages before. Yes, that photo is clearly photoshopped when you consider Heather Tom is actually in the photo and then you realize how different Winsor looks compared to the other cast members, plus the pose and outfit are from the 35th anniversary episode. Not to mention, there are currently no episodic photos available to the press of Winsor or Ashley as of this writing. Yikes!

B&B/Y&R: Upcoming December 2023 Spoilers
In addition, B&B listed his return as "beginning December 5," which means multiple episodes. His appearance in multiple episodes wasn't clear from that TV Insider "exclusive." We only found out through the SOD interview and through the B&B newsletter sent to the press that it would be for more than one episode. Usually, they'll only list what day someone appears. They said "beginning" for both Ashley and Winsor. No worries. You are excellent at this. I'm in awe and have so much appreciation for what you do!

None of these pictures are new. They are all from the 35th anniversary episode aired last year when he appeared as one of Brooke's "loves."

ARTICLE: Daytime Broadcast Ratings for the Week of November 20-24, 2023
With Thanksgiving in the mix, most daytime broadcast shows were coded as specialed or were preempted altogether on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. As a result, the weekly averages for the bulk of daytime shows are based on just three days (Monday through Wednesday). NBC’s broadcast of the “National Dog Show” was the most-watched daytime broadcast program for the week, excluding NBC’s airing of “The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” (22.0 million). The 11.5 million viewers said to have watched the dog show include both the NBC and Peacock broadcasts*, which was an improvement of +300,000 viewers over the same week last year and +140,000 viewers compared to the program’s performance in 2021. Several regularly scheduled daytime broadcast shows hit new season highs this week, including “The Price is Right” (3.968 million / 4.640 million), “The Young and the Restless” (3.463 million), “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.888 million), “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.297 million / 2.705 million), “General Hospital” (2.089 million), “TODAY 3rd Hour” (2.208 million), “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” (1.703 million) and “NBC News Daily” (1.395 million). “The Young and the Restless” and “General Hospital” marked their best performances among Total Viewers since the week of June 26-30, 2023. In the all-important sales demographics, “The Young and the Restless” hit new season highs in unrounded Women 18-49 (0.39 rating) and unrounded Women 25-54 (0.57 rating). Among Total Viewers, the soap added another +120,000 people over its performance one week earlier and an even more impressive +380,000 viewers compared to the same week in 2020. This marks the second week in a row in which the series has added viewers over the prior week for a combined +288,000 viewer increase compared to the week of November 6-10, 2023. “The Bold and the Beautiful” added +26,000 viewers over the week ago period and an astounding +350,000 viewers compared to the same week three years earlier. Along with “The Young and the Restless,” the CBS soaps were the only daytime broadcast shows to see improvement over 2020 among Total Viewers. “NBC News Daily” saw the largest week-to-week uptick among Total Viewers (+345,000), marking a new season high for the news hour. The show also saw significant gains over its performance during the same week last year, adding +195,000 viewers to become the show’s best performance among Total Viewers since at least the week of September 26-30, 2022, per ratings records available to Soap Opera Network. What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of November 20-24, 2023 in Women 18-49 Rating, Women 25-54 Rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2022, 2021 and 2020, respectively. I knew there was something wrong! I had also been getting this message and had the main site's hosting company look into it recently. Now that it looks like it also impacted the message boards as well, this tells me it's a broader issue since the site and the message boards are handled by separate companies on separate servers. Is this issue still happening, or has happened recently for anyone, particularly on the message boards? Is it just desktop or has it been seen on mobile as well?

ARTICLE: NBC Renews ‘Found’ and ‘The Irrational’ for Second Seasons
There’s nothing irrational about it: NBC has renewed dramas “Found” and “The Irrational” for second seasons. The decision makes perfect sense with “The Irrational” topping the charts as the season’s #1 new show in Total Viewers and “Found” being the #1 new drama in Adults 18-49. In fact, both the shows are the #1 and #2 broadcast series, respectively, in Total Viewers this season among black audiences. They are NBC’s top digital launches to date across all major platforms. “These shows are a testament to the incredibly passionate work of our showrunners Nkechi Okoro Carroll (‘Found’) and Arika Lisanne Mittman (‘The Irrational’), both of whom have executed their visions flawlessly,” said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Entertainment. “A huge thank you to the talented cast, producers and crews for their tireless commitment and dedication, which has clearly paid off with audiences making these series must-see television on both NBC and next day on Peacock.” Starring Shanola Hampton, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Kelli Williams, Brett Dalton, Gabrielle Walsh, Arlen Escarpeta and Karan Oberoi, “Found” is a fictional drama based on real-life situations in which in any given year, more than 600,000 people are reported missing in the U.S. More than half that number are people of color that the country seems to forget about. Public relations specialist Gabi Mosely (series star and producer Shanola Hampton) — who was once herself one of those forgotten ones — and her crisis management team now make sure there is always someone looking out for the forgotten missing people. But unbeknownst to anyone, this everyday hero is hiding a chilling secret of her own. Airing Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and available to stream the next day on Peacock, “Found” will return for its final two episodes of the season on Tuesday, January 9, following the show’s final 2023 telecast on Tuesday, December 12. Nkechi Okoro Carroll, Sonay Hoffman, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman and Lindsay Dunn executive produce. Berlanti Productions and Rock My Soul Productions produces in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. In “The Irrational,” a world-renowned professor of behavioral science, Alec Mercer (Jesse L. Martin), lends his unique expertise on an array of high-stakes cases involving governments, law enforcement and corporations. His insight and unconventional approach to understanding human behavior lead him and the team on a series of intense, unexpected journeys to solve illogical puzzles and perplexing mysteries. The series will resume with the final four episodes of its first season beginning Monday, January 29 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and will be available to stream the next day on Peacock. In addition to Martin, the cast includes Maahra Hill, Travina Springer, Molly Kunz, and Arash DeMaxi. Executive producers are Arika Lisanne Mittman, Mark Goffman, Sam Baum and David Frankel. The show is based on best-selling author Dan Ariely’s book, “Predictably Irrational.” The show is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. NBC Daytime
So much this! An opening sequence is meant to be something to look forward to when watching a show just as much as watching it. In many cases, this also goes for films such as James Bond movies or Mission Impossible films. That sequence and the accompanying theme help set the tone for what fans/viewers can expect from what they are about to watch/spend the next two hours giving their undivided attention. The classic "General Hospital" opening prepared you for all the drama and the switch later on to the Dave Koz version with "Faces of the Heart." That iconic theme is much missed compared to the lazy theme we have today. That theme screamed action, adventure, excitement, romance and family. I always looked forward to hearing it at the Daytime Emmys. In fact, I looked forward to hearing it more and cared less who from the show itself won. As for the visuals, as I said, it screamed all the aforementioned things and showed me as a viewer what I would get from the show. And I was happy to suck it all in every day. I barely had any memories when Ryan's Hope was on, but I did hear/watch the opening for that show at some point. It was definitely for the 80s. Not sure it would have worked in the 90s and beyond. Back to Generations...the opening not only gave a '70s look but also definitely made you think you were watching some rerun of a show from that era before you actually got to see what was going on. That's a bad impression for a brand new show. Just sayin' Exactly. The wrong theme for a late '80s/early 90s show. The opening was 2-3 decades late. Agreed again. It should have been showing the dynamics of families through multiple Generations, not reminding people that black people were slaves dating back centuries. It's depressing enough to think about in real-life, but to lead viewers to believe that's what your show is about before you even present a storyline is poor decision-making on the production side. A theme should tie together like a glove with what the show is about. Again, the people behind Generations did themselves in with that piss-poor opening. And don't tell me black people were watching Y&R. Contrary to executive beliefs, groups can watch more than one thing at the same time. Some can watch one, and others can watch the other. Not a single group is stuck watching only one show because they happen to have that groups race/culture. I only remember the iconic actors from the show, not much else about the show overall. Sadly. Seriously, an ice cream chain was the basis of storytelling on soap? Imagine if this show lasted for more than 2 years and beyond. How long did they think ice cream could be the center of a storyline? Maybe if it were a coffee shop... I could care less about who they cast or how serious they were about black characters. I cared that the show itself knew what it was supposed to be about. They clearly didn't from the start.

See, I loved the "Cheers" opening. It didn't really have anything to do with the characters, but it centered on camaraderie within a bar. Coupled with the literal lyrics, the theme made sense and worked. It might not work in today's 2-second theme world, but it was perfect for what "Cheers" was/is. I agree that the "Generations" look reminded me of "Cheers" in that regard. I don't feel the "Generations" theme evoked that, as you only got a glimpse of the cast in the last 2 seconds of the opening before the title appeared to close it out.

Not even talking about the 70s-style music; that opening would literally make me not want to watch the show. For the opening to look like that, even though it makes perfect sense, I would be greatly annoyed by the message it was giving off. Essentially, it comes off as Whites vs. Blacks. Racism. Inequality. Blah. Blah. Blah. I'd rather see a show that highlights the culture and style of Black people like the ones shown in South Africa. Ironically, SA even had a soap called "Generations," which later got canceled due to the cast getting fired after they went on strike. A reboot of the show with new characters and actors came on shortly after the cancellation, titled "Generations: The Legacy."

First, I'd be shocked to learn SOD had printed such a detail. Would love to know the context. Of course, based on the timing you noted, it would have to be in relation to the financial crisis of that time which eventually led to the cancellation of four soaps between 2009-2011. That being said, I would believe Guiding Light was the only one making money because their budget was slashed so much that they had porta potties as the primary method of using the bathroom for cast members. You can't be over budget when that's something already considered within your budget.

All the replacement shows sound terrible. I can't believe people were paid for this kind of crap, even back then. Clearly, nothing they aired even after the cancellation of "Generations" worked, as I had never heard of those programs until I read this article. That said, despite the cancellations of both "Generations" and later "Another World," I at least commend NBC for even trying another soap, or two, with "Sunset Beach" and later "Passions" before finally pulling the plug on genre overall with the move of "Days of our Lives" to Peacock in 2022.
