Its not about him pllaying subordinate. I dont think Lia would have the gall to talk to him like a dog the way she did if he was the criminal mastermind that controls her and the whole operation.

Yes, but she might not know and therefore talks to him the way she does.

Still, I do think it's anyone's game who it is now, Kial, Carlton, or someone else.

Carlton knows a little bit too much about Nicole. It's almost like he's been stalking her for years, but if plain sight.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks these little asides from Carlton are just a little off coming from Ted's business partner/BFF.

I’d rather have whimsical fantasies than the usual-as-of-late “sitting around Orphey Gene’s talking about how important family is to the Duprees”.

Thoughts:

  • Whoa there, Grayson. A bit jumpy, are we? Calm down, my friend! Calm down!

  • That was a chilly turndown that Shanice gave Ted. Whew... I needed a cooldown, but not that much!

  • Okay, Cam Aura and Bea Guiling. We love a 1970s vibe! Sweet of Dani to do that for Andre. Super cute.

  • Not Jacob threatening to arrest Grayson just like that. I do not think that is how it works, Jacob, and I am not even a cop!

  • Okay, Miss Sunny Anderson! Love seeing you pop into Orphey Gene's for a cameo!

  • Seeing Martin and Naomi catch up. I feel like, due to their professions, they have a connection like Chelsea and Katherine but more so in a more logical-mindset kind of vibe.

  • That devious smirk on Lia's face said so much without saying anything at all.

  • Oh God. Not a threat against Grayson's mother. So unfair that she got dragged into this. An innocent, ill woman. So gross.

  • More fictional flashbacks? That is exciting. Love at first sight? Nah. I do not believe in it, but I do believe in life after love!

  • I hate to say it, but I do not think Bradley and Martin have the same idea of distraction they would like to explore.

  • Ted has the right sentiments; however, the way in which he is delivering them to Shanice is not hitting.

  • Not Shanice doing a one-two punch by insulting both Dana's taste in clothing and her selection of wigs. I am creasing because of that.

  • NO WAY DID NICOLE JUST IMAGINE THAT CARLTON WAS TED! Oh girl. Now I understand, completely... that is why you like him: he reminds you of Ted! Messy, messy, messy!

  • Well, the contact is now known: Lia! Jacob's surprise is not as 'surprise' as I thought it would be, though.

  • Bradley, you could be having some super sexy time with your husband... and you keep avoiding it. Get your thicc backside up the stairs and be with your husband.

  • So is Ashley a loose end for you, Lia? And if so, what do you intend on doing about it?

Notes:

  • Montgomery and Paige were paired beautifully today; however, whoever edited the episode really did ruin how things flowed.

  • The varying flashback scenarios with Sean Freeman and Karla Mosley were hilarious and fun. A nice comedic touch to the episode. The hair and costume departments knocked it out of the park, as did post-production, making it feel different, especially during those scenes set in the 1970s. The flashback scenes reminded me of those days when P&G would do those comedy-inspired episodes on As the World Turns.

  • The When Harry Met Sally-esque moment was a nice nod to cinema history, but in a more daytime-friendly way.

  • DAMN! Daphnée Duplaix (Nicole) is body tea! Curves upon curves upon curves!

This episode shows how juvenile and emotionally stunted Dani is. I have to admit, I will always be intrigued to see what Daphnee would have done with the role since she tried out for Dani originally.

In regards to Lia, I find the actress striking and doing more with the character then what is written on the page. She's able to play a more professional and capable character while also being able to play moustache twirling. Sometimes character performers can elevate a recurring/short term role in a way that a seasoned soap opera veteran can't do.

Leslie is not the one Shanice should be so worried about, it's Nicole. Now that Ted has moved on she wants him back even though he pleased with her to fix their marriage.

I won't even dwell on that Andre and Dani oddness.

Grayson holding scissors like a gun was hilarious. That aside, I am so glad that there was decent movement with the plasma storyline today.

-- Grayson pulling the scissors on Smitty was hilariously bad. I mean, who thought that was a good idea? 😂

-- It's cool that Jacob was able to keep Grayson from getting arrested with one 30-second phone call.

-- One fantasy scene with Dani and Andre was fine; two ruined the entire idea.

-- Why is Ted again acting like Shanice is the only one for him? First he was head-over-heels, then he was cool and "It's not a thing," and now we're back to "I care so much about you and want a romantic date." Make it make sense.

-- Why did we get the tie-in with Sunny Anderson and The Drew Barrymore Show? Were Febreze and Tide unavailable?

-- I'm glad we got plasma story movement, but today's show was a bit of a mess -- seemed like a pastiche of scenes left over from the week thrown into one episode. Too much of a hodgepodge.

Interesting that, I posted several months ago (for anyone that cares to scour the old threads to find it) that I thought the show should bring back the shady lawyer that Bill dismissed for sexual harassment from the law firm. At the time, I wrote that Leslie should be arrested and in jail and Eva, frantic to find an attorney who would take her case, would find him to represent Leslie in her criminal trial in the Laura Peterson case. I still think that would have been a better reason to bring him back, rather than to represent someone we have never seen and barely know from a can of paint.🙄

We will see how my other idea that I 'seeded' these writers--I mentioned cotillions/Black debutante balls at least 3 or 4 months before it was ever mentioned on BTG--works out. I wouldn't have written it the way they did but hey, it's their show, right?

When I told posted that it wasn't over between Ted and Nicole, I got one or two guffaws but it's writing for the television series 101 and a well worn soap opera trope that these things happen. And I think many people have observed that Daphnée and Keith have screen chemistry, the "Forever Bae" video demonstrated that.

I'm not sure what those fantasy scenes were about but they read filler to me.🤷🏾‍♀️ and a reminder that Andre and Dani don't have all that much to do.

Grayson has been working with dangerous criminals for at least months, has been gutted like a fish by one of them. You'd think he'd have the sense to carry something like, at least a Swiss Army knife. I don't know if him pulling out the scissors was meant to be played for laughs but a laugh is what they got from me.

A few months ago The Drew Barrymore Show did a series of behind the scenes features on Beyond the Gates. Just another way of cross-promoting the show.

I agree. Especially with it being a short week, I wondered if this was an insert episode. There were good moments but I can't say it worked overall. I do love bottle episodes but I feel like the Andre/Dani stuff didn't work paired with the plasma story. Something like that could've been good for an entire episode with different couples having fantasies. Can't say I loved it being set at Orphey Gene's either.
