I always wondered why Zimmer felt the need to ham it up on GL especially when I watched some of her acting on other soaps (The Doctors, OLTL circa 1983, & Santa Barbara) and she was a lot more toned down and natural with her acting. I'll even go as far as to say that I thought her role on Santa Barbara was probably her most atypical role she had during her soap career. She was playing a working class cop, had to be controlled/cold at work, was an attentive wife, and also could throw a line of shade on occasion. I think the difference was that her character on Santa Barbara was someone that you would see in your day to day life unlike someone like Reva... who would have been better placed in a mental hospital along with Annie Dutton than be allowed to roam the streets of society. There is this one YT channel that has all of Blake/Ross scenes from 1992 to the early 2000s.. and watching the change over from SS to LK was interesting to see with adult eyes. You saw SS expressing softness and vulnerability in her final scenes and you saw LK trying to play the Blake that SS left for her and struggling badly with it. Had SS remained as Blake for even another year, I doubt Ross/Blake would have lasted.. but it would have been interesting to see the fall out of Roger finding out and Blake living with Ed/Maureen as played by SS. What could have been.
