We know why!

I would bring Hudson West back tomorrow but I'm not going to go another round with the haters on him, I think he's great, so there! Aiden I would probably de-SORAS a bit to a much younger teen and play up some more eccentricity re: his culinary prodigy stuff to make him different, a la Molly as a kid. Then I would keep him just a recurring player longer, simply because I have other young people in that range or older I would want to frontburner. I would recast Georgie II as a wallflower (a la her namesake) and play her with charming rebel Danny and shy Rocco and another girl, probably from the Asian Quarter. This is all simple teen stuff soaps used to do in their sleep, but GH doesn't because it has too many characters and also wants to keep playing Sonny, Jason, Carly, etc. like they're 35.

Charlotte can be written off with a tearstained letter and a warning that if she ever comes back to town her non-Spencer mutant blood will combust. I may be kidding on that last part. Sort of.

I like Hudson West.  I'd bring him back too.  The show really does need to age Georgie a bit and bring on another female.  You could age up Avery.  I like the Asian Quarter idea better, so the show will go with Avery lol.

I suppose Storms "break" and Bradford's availability probably makes aging Georgie difficult.  Honestly, Felicia and Mac could pick up the slack there though.

Rocco latching onto Britt as his “mother” could’ve made more narrative sense if Lulu waking up from her coma and immediately racing off to find Charlotte thus making Rocco feel like an afterthought part of the story. I’ve always thought they should have leaned into that, it was such an obvious story point to explore.

Instead the teenage mutant has disappeared and Rocco just looks like a little jerk.

That's a really good point.  Charlotte should have been the catalyst to Rocco feeling neglected and looking into his conception/birth.

I would send Avery to boarding school for like 10-15 years. Bye! I'd kill Donna and let that be part of the crucible that breaks Carly down again (and opens the door to my crowbarring Sarah Brown back onto the show against the wishes of the audience that has watched Laura for 20+ years).

And yeah you don't need Spixie to use Georgie. Though I would bring them back and marry them off ASAP as a big event (and then eventually break them up again).

I would only welcome him back if he took acting lessons; the last few times he was on, I found him beyond unwatchable. It was like he was reading from a damn script or line cards.

Yeah, Avery and Donna are redundant.  One needs to be aged or sent off.  Giving Sonny two later in life daughters makes no sense.  At least make one of them a boy or make Avery Morgan's kid.

Lol!  I didn't think he was that bad.

Hudson's worst day is better than a lot of the cast AFAIC. But that's why I said I'm not resuming this Discourse!

The show is dealing with the fallout of relying on baby storylines for so many years.

Jake, Aiden, Georgie, James, Bailey, Rocco, Charlotte, Danny, Scout, Avery, Donna, Wiley, Amelia, Ace, and Leo = too many damn kids on canvas!

YEP. It is completely insane that Spencer was basically the second male lead of the show for two years and they still haven’t recast him—a far more dynamic character than Mama’s Boy Michael.

Was the character dynamic or was the performer?

Recasting Michael and giving him a bit of agency made him more dynamic, for a while at least, but the many connections Michael has also helped.

Spencer has his share of connections, but they are all more fraught for the show. As @Vee said, Sprina is a likely no-go, and then you get to the broken down state of the Cassadines, now mostly Alexis. And you have Laura, who at least got to blast Liesl recently after doing the usual Laura enabling of recent years, but how long before Laura is just used as a reason to bring back Esme and coddle her some more?

I really think it’s both. Spencer’s arrogant-but-lovelorn spoiled/lonely prince energy was a welcome respite from this show’s main male archetypes (conflicted mobster, crooked businessman, ineffectual law enforcement agent).

But then I’m in favor of reconstituting the Cassadines: Nikolas, Valentin, hell, resurrect Victor and Helena. They’re fun!

I do think the show needed and still needs a dark family not tied to the mob. If there was a way to reconfigure the Cassadines it would be worth a try.

I think the moment to make Esme star of the show has luckily passed. I don't mind her as a recurring villain should that ever happen and Avery Pohl was very talented, but there was a clear period IMO in '23 where the show was hoping to rehab her via amnesia and test the waters with NAC. Any white girl in a storm! Anyway, it's not happening.

I do think you can rebuild the Cassadines with Spencer and new people (like the young characters Guza II allegedly intended to introduce before the Franco mess took over), but that would take time. It would also require IMO recommitting to Laura and her family, which FV clearly has no use for. And I would kill off Nikolas. No more.

Way too many, as we've said all along. Which is why I would send away a number of them or kill others off. Charlotte would be de-Spencered, Donna would be nuked and you wouldn't see Avery, Scout, Amelia, Ace, or Bailey til 2035 for all I care lol. Aiden would have a smaller role, James and Wiley would stay little kids and please God can we rename Wiley some nickname or something.
