Get ready to say goodbye to the Butlers and the Johnsons, as CBS announced on Monday that it has renewed its long-running comedy series “The Neighborhood” for an eighth and final season, which is set to air during the 2025-2026 broadcast television season.

“The Neighborhood” stars Cedric the Entertainer as Calvin Butler, the unofficial mayor of his Pasadena neighborhood, where he lives with his loving wife, Tina (Tichina Arnold), and next door to his two older sons, Malcolm (Sheaun McKinney) and Marty (Marcel Spears), and revolves around the Butlers’ unlikely friendship with their new(ish) neighbor, perpetual nice-guy Dave Johnson (Max Greenfield), his wife, Gemma (Beth Behrs), and their now-teenage son, Grover (Hank Greenspan). Skye Townsend also stars in the series as Courtney Pridgeon, Marty’s one-time fling and now co-worker with whom he shares a baby girl.

“The brilliant cast and creative team at ‘The Neighborhood’ led by the incomparable Cedric the Entertainer have brought levity, laughter and poignant storylines to Monday nights for seven incredible seasons,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “‘The Neighborhood’ is a strong ratings performer for CBS and one of the top comedies on TV. We believe the show’s loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series.”

During the show’s current seventh season, the Johnsons have gone from neighborhood newcomers to full-on denizens, truly becoming the best of friends with the Butlers (though Calvin won’t admit it). The two families, who couldn’t be more different, have realized they have much more in common than they ever thought they would.

Last month, it was announced that the Season 7 finale of “The Neighborhood” would serve as a backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff series that would star McKinney and Spears, who would segue off the main series if picked up, and finds their characters living in a reverse concept of the mothership series, where Marty and Malcolm embark on new adventures, finally leaving their family home to start the next chapters in their lives, including acquainting themselves as newcomers in a neighborhood both close by but yet worlds apart: Venice Beach.

In addition to McKinney and Spears, the planted spinoff would also star “The Young and the Restless” alum Hunter King (ex-Summer Newman), along with actors Justin Long, Kara Royster and Angelique Cabral.

Produced by CBS Studios, “The Neighborhood” is averaging 6.4 million viewers with 35-day multiplatform viewing, according to Nielsen.

Executive producers include Bill Martin, Mike Schiff, Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling, Cedric the Entertainer and Eric Rhone

The series airs Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and is available to stream Live and On Demand on Paramount+.

I admit that I was worried about it after watching bits of it during the Black History special so at least they know. Congrats to them for making it 8 years.

Big fan of Max Greenfield. Never good for a long running job to end, but hopefully this farewell season gives time for the actors to get their agents hustling up new gigs for them.

Surviving eight seasons is an amazing feat; admittedly, it's seven seasons longer than I thought it would last, based on previews and watching the pilot. But congratulations to them, and at least they're aware it's their final season moving into production.

Had an opportunity to binge watch this while on vacation and was very impressed. I don't get attached to very many shows, but it really drew me in. 8 seasons is an amazing feat.
