My wife and I don’t watch much of the same television. She long gave up on soaps. But I just found out that she’s all in on Beyond The Gates.

Why? Because it’s showing black people not only surrounded by affluence, but being the creators of said wealth, driving the narrative and being leaders.

The second most gratifying "F" I ever earned in high school was when I was refused to read that novel during my summer vacation.  (The first most gratifying was for not reading "The Grapes of Wrath," because, [!@#$%^&*], isn't it enough that I live in Oklahoma?)

I feel like the character of Vanessa is Kelly Rutherford/Sam from Generations.  I like both but just an observation.

What’s silly - the other day the way a scene was going I thought - this is so Workd Turns or Another World, but that’s silly.  Thennnnnn I thought, well if it does  feel that way it’s because - P&G. Duh haha

Loved the show & the character/actress but I'm not feeling that comparison & there's certainly no Kyle anywhere in sight!!!

I have def been feeling AW 1987 Team Vicky vs. Team Lisa!!! Back then I was Team Lisa. Today my ladies are Anita & Dani with Nicole coming on fast in the backstretch.

I just noticed that, in one of the many prelaunch articles in the mainstream press that outlines who the main characters are.... it says that Vanessa is Dani's neighbor.
https://deadline.com/gallery/beyond-the-gates-cast-photos-cbs/1-012-3/

That reminded me of the scene in the first episode, when Vanessa enters via Dani's glass kitchen door at the moment Dani is throwing coffee mugs.  Vanessa says "well, so much for stop by for a cup of coffee!"

At the time I took it as good friends who have permission to walk into one another's homes.  But the idea of a neighbor who stops by via the kitchen door, well, that fits, too.

You know it's good soap when...hehe...

This reminds me of the DAYS promo back in the 90s where it was 'Miss a Day, Miss a Lot.'

And I expect Week 3 to also end on a cliffhanger. As Fridays USED to be.

This is a pretty decent character guide.

The picture of Thomas is very different from how he appeared at Bill & Hayley's wedding
(He was wearing a green suit there).

But otherwise the pics are great.  And you can see the differences in the shapes of the men's faces, for anyone having trouble telling them apart by haircuts.

TBH, it sort of underlined for me how they need different styling. It's not just the hairstyle, but the fact they all have facial hair and none of them really stand out by their personal clothes style. They could certainly get at least one of the guys to go clean-shaven, or even go for a fuller beard. I think clothingwise they could certainly do more - right now I feel Ted is the only guy with a distinct style due to his preference for polo + jacket combo.

    • It was a good episode. I didn't expect things to unravel so soon.   One thing I still don't like about these big events: Where was everyone else?   This is a big event. Everyone should've been there.
    • Mitch, thanks for that history of the Reardon Boarding House kitchen.  I had always assumed that every time the kitchen set returned, it was a recreation of the original set.  So I have been wrong about that.   Was the kitchen set ever used later, while Buzz and the Coopers owned the boarding house?

    • Do they ever do anything well?  The show is about 4 week story arcs - if that it feels like.  Why wouldn’t you spend a month of subtle hints.  Late to events and don’t telegraph it.  Have repeated issues with time; I had a friend whose Mom suddenly was forgetting half the meal in the fridge to be heated for a meal; twice her husband had to go to her work to get her because she was still working and only noticed no one was there until he walked in to find her and make her come home (it was a doctor’s office, there’s not that kind of job);  knowing she had an appointment and not be worried by it, etc.   No, they have him do a head bonk and bam it’s cancer.     It’s almost an insult.
    • I know that's right Queen.

    • Today showed why almost no one comments on this crap soap. -- We're back to pretending that there aren't SCORES of cosmetics companies out there --  only Jabot and whoever else opens up shop in Genoa City to be the competition. No real business runs this way. -- Marchetti is supposed to be an internationally-renowned fashion house, yet both Chelsea and Sally are ready to walk after being high-level executives there. -- It's not often women leave choice executive positions in their field of expertise to work in a business they're clueless about. -- Sally had a lot of nerve shading Chelsea with "It's easy to see Adam's influence on you" when the same damn thing is happening with Billy. -- I'm glad Lauren told Michael to quit, since we've all been mouthing that for weeks. None of that story is helped by CLB's over-the-top acting. -- The scene with Victoria helping a sick, coughing Cole walk to their car on the way to the hospital was laughable. Wouldn't rich people call a damn ambulance? -- Claire was really concerned, wasn't she? She stayed in the doorway instead of helping her mother, and then headed right to Crimson Lights for coffee. Why bother with checking on her possible terminal father at the hospital?
    • Leslie couldn't get her Clair Huxtable evening dress for prom, but she finally got it now.
    • Lol!  Why?  Just sincerely asking not judging.  It did have a lot of action happening I suppose.
