I hope that the next time one of the other soaps looks for a new HW they look to BTG and consider everybody who is qualified regardless of the color of their skin and give their vision a chance.

Agreed! And, also they need to give more younger characters with fresh, modern takes on storytelling a chance.

I had Y&R on for a few minutes today, and it was Yawnsville compared to BTG. Just more and more and more talk about vague companies and who's going to control them. I swear that you could do a Y&R drinking game and have to take a shot anytime someone says CEO, COO, takeover, etc. Why do TPTB there think their viewers care about any of that? Sorry...I got sidetracked. :)

I have my doubts Eva is Ted's. He walked right past Dana at the hospital and didn't blink. But I do think she's related, and I do think a triangle will come.

Maybe a drunken ONS in Ted's past.

Count me as another who just rolls their eyes at the characters' ages. It makes no sense. Or a simple timeline. Vernon keeps talking about the Civil Rights Movement, as though he were a contemporary of MLK. But he keeps insisting it was the 70s. Obviously, it wasn't peaches and roses then but it's not the era Vernon talks about.

And I really wish that either Bill/Dani, Nicole/Ted, or Martin/Smitty had younger kids. I don't get why Martin (who I think is in his late 20s) has teenage kids! I know they were adopted, but still.

Are Dani or Nicole about to be grandmoms? Naomi does hump like a bunny.

Anyway...

Kat is right about Eva but is so bitchy and a snob lol. Eva really stood out as a character. The actress comes across as very genuine and is a nice contrast to spoiled Kat. Looking forward to these two going up against each other.

They have kind of muddied the timeline. I believe they said Anita and Vernon met at the March on Washington, but maybe they didn't get fully together til the '70s? I have no idea.

I used to have an account a long time ago, but forgot my login. So, I'm newish. :)

Q is for Queen but now that you mention it, it can be a nice nod to those crazy Quartermaines.

And is Anita ready to be a great-great-grandmother if for some reason there's a teenage pregnancy in the coming years...? LOL.  And just for laughs... most great-great-grandparents are around 100 years old in real life.

P.S Nicole is already a grandmom. These are Martin's adopted children.

leslie/dani keeps talking about how ted choose nicole over her, which makes it sound link more than a one night stand,

of course, she may not be the most reliable narrator:)

Well as someone who wanted to join the soap writing programs and run off to New York when I was young, it warms my heart to see young talent given the chance to show how well they can do.

So I'm guessing Martin is supposed to be around 28 years old now so that he'd be 35 by the 2032 presidential election.  His husband Smitty could be any age.

I am going to imagine/speculate that the children they adopted were already 7-9 years old at the time of adoption. (Dialogue mentioned reading them stories but maybe just reading to the younger one, or maybe reading to both during first weeks of adoption to make them feel at home?).

With my theory, they adopted the children when Martin was 20-21 years old.  As someone posted above thread, maybe Martin wanted to appear stable before embarking on a career in politics, so he wanted to have the househusband and children ready, in order to depict a stable perfect life to voters?
To take that thought further, Martin may have married young because of his political ambitions.

I still think it would be more sensible if Martin had been Vernon and Anita’s son, not grandson, that the way the age thing wouldn’t be that much of an issue, IMO.

that was my initial thought. but, i realized that far more interesting possibility would have been to to bring in martin and smitty a year or two after they had married, with martin recently elected to congress, and the two of them discussing starting a family. that way, we could see the conflict unfold rather that being told

yeah, the timeline is all over the place. mlk’s ‘i have a dream’ speech’ was delivered at the 1963 march on washington — more than 60 years ago — so, unlikely anita and vernon were there.

rather than trying to connect vernon with mlk, who died in 1968, makes more sense to make him a contemporary of john lewis.

i’m ok with the dupree sisters having grown children. as for martin and smitty, i know there are people who think some of us are making too much of the age issue and that we should just let it go. but having established martin and smitty as the parents of kids in their late teens, locks them into a chronology that can’t be changed and will always be confusing — and distracting.

I’m gonna always be hung up on age with soaps lol Wonky ages and timelines is why so many of our favorites were written into corners and cast aside as the “elders” by the time they were 50 years old. I don’t want to see the likes of Daphnee Duplaix relegated to presiding over family brunches and talking her nutjob sister off the ledge because she’s playing a great-grandma at 50. Pat Bruder weeps.

I added onto my above post that Martin may have married young because of his political ambitions.

A trajectory all planned out.  Martin just said a couple of times in past two weeks that he wants something more (as if he's newly thinking about this) and now says he would like to run for president; but I suspect that's been his plan all along.    -- to run for president in 2032.

So by my theory/speculation, he is 28 years old now, and became a father at age 20-21  by adopting children who were already 7-8 years old at the time of the adoption.  That's the only way the timeline makes sense.

Smitty could be older than Martin.  Martin might have insisted on the marriage and family thing.

(but this is all *ONLY* my speculation)

Anita said in the first episode "a march on Washington in the 70s"
