Merry Christmas, y’all!

I’ll always love a Horton family Christmas. This is one of the things that makes Days what it is and I’m glad to see this tradition be carried on.

There were a lot of sweet dorky family moments and I really liked that. And they got all the historical facts correct as well. Clearly, somebody at Days has been reading Jason47. Or this board

Xander giving Sarah red shoes for Christmas was a nice throwback as well.

Jack, Jennifer and JJ being all suspicious of Doug III was good too. And I like that those suspicions were one of the things that motivated JJ to decide to stay in Salem. He deserves to be on the canvas. And I don’t dislike this storyline, even though I’m still not sure about them making Julie so vulnerable. I wonder how it’s going to play out.

And as much as I dislike the pacing of this storyline, Tate and Holly’s scenes were really sweet today, even though Tate lied lol I like the mess that they’re in. It just needed to happen a little later than now. The aftermath of John’s death, perhaps?

It would have been nice to have a proper Holly/Tate/Sophia triangle.

I thought it was lovely. Great use of history with Xander giving Sarah the red shoes. Sweet moment with Shawn and Maggie. He's kind of the forgotten Victor grandchild. And the Horton house scenes were perfect, especially seeing a real Victoria and Jack and Xander making amends. The final scene with a classic Julie and Doug flashback was really good, as was Clan Deveraux putting Doug 3 on notice. Only buzz kill was the boring pub stuff with dull Tate and Holly.

A really great DAYS episode. The Horton ornaments is always so special. I was glad that JJ asked Doug3 to explain about his being in jail. I don't know if I believe the tale he told. Wasn't it funny that Julie overheard part of his phone call to Leo. Now she knows he is needing money. I thought Holly & Tate were good today. Yes, I know Tate lied. But, I suppose it couldn't be helped. Tate & Sophia are going to be bound together by this. It may affect a lot of things. But at least Holly had a good birthday celebration. People who have their birthday around a holiday get cheated. But Tate prevented that from happening. I laughed about Uncle Roman. But, Merry Christmas & good will to all men, and also women.

Although it feels natural for any teen guy to lie under these circumstances, there really is no motivation.  Holly knows they had sex.  It was a mistake.  And they could use her support.

Happy Hanukkah to all, and thank you @AbcNbc247 for making it such a fun year to interact and share ideas.  And a special shout out to @carolineg for putting up with all my memory lapses.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all my Days (and GH) friends on this board!!!  Hope you are enjoying the day!

I thought today's episode was nice.  Yeah, you can call Doug/Holly a mile away, but I thought Tate/Holly's private celebration for her birthday was nice.

I am sad both Chad and Lucas were missing from the Horton Ornament tree trimming.

And the idea of Xander buying Sarah red shoes was lovely, but the actual shoes looked very cheap and not Sarah's style at all lol!

Good episode!

Can Doug be any more adorable? I'm ok with a Holly and Doug pairing.

Xander's pecs should be enough present for Sarah.

I loved the singing at Julie's and the final scene with her and Doug.

Oh and JJ was just as adorable. Glad to see him back on the show.

Random thoughts from today's episode:

  1. Weren't they going to shoot B&S at the Pub?  That set is being used for the most random scenes.  Because there is no teenaged girl who would find a smelly old pub by the docks romantic.
  2. Shouldn't Marie be informed about the stolen necklace?  As Alice's only living child, she's more entitled to it than Julie.  In fact, IIRC, Jen inherited the Horton House, while Julie and Chad are merely guests.   So, legally, any property on the grounds should be Jen's.
  3. Chad is randomly missing because he is in “Orlando” with the kids?  I get that they can't reference Disney, but I wonder why they don't plug Universal Florida?  Goodness knows, they plug every other NBC-U product any chance that they get.
  4. So, it has been established that Holly is 18.  Did she and Tate flunk last year because they missed so much school?  It also brings into question Sophia's age, and when she'll be old enough to consent for her own medical procedures?
  5. Does Maggie need another portrait of her and Vic?
  6. Isn't anyone else hiring besides the Salem PD?

Yeah, Holly wasn't aged up from last year lol.  It just her next birthday.

It's also not weird for her to be 18 while still in highschool.  Lots of people including myself graduated at 18 without flunking a year lol. Sophia could be 17 and the same year in school.  It just depends on your birthday.

    • There has been some confusion about Michael & facial burns. Please see this post: https://bsky.app/profile/shallotpeel.bsky.social/post/3lqkrryu54226 I've chosen to put this here instead of the Classic Thread because it is now with the appearance of recast Michael that this has come up. Different places online, including at least one podcast, remarks have been made about how remarkable it is that he is without facial scarring. Other fans say it was clear from the first that he did not have facial burns. What is included in this post is 2 screengrabs where you can see his face at the hospital & a very quick edit of that day in the hospital.
    • Put me in the LOVE KMH camp. As a poster alluded to above, her detractors seem to come from people who first experienced the 80s Emily actress. And that's often the case with soaps, myself included. I enjoy the original actor so much that I just never take to the recast. However, KMH played Emily far longer than the original - for almost 20 years - and when she had great material, she was great. I get the sense she didn't like playing the whiny oh-woe-is-me Emily which was all the material she got from about 1996 until she took over the Intruder in late '99/early '00 and got to play a stronger kiss-ass woman who didn't care what anyone thought of her. (Some would call that a bitch but, if a man was in that role, he'd just be called a smart and savvy businessman.) Her relationship with Hal was great. The transformation was done realistically and I thoroughly enjoyed those years the best out of all. Once the writers decided to break up those two, they went back to writing Emily half the time as whiny and pathetic. I preferred when the writers made her stronger.
    • Hahaha - I do. I've always been the type, though, that can't miss anything. I get FOMO, so I'll not skip episodes or fast forward anything. There are only a few TV shows I've dropped because they got so bad vs. sticking it out to the end.  The promise that GL 1997 is better is what keeps me going. I especially want to see the fallout of Blake's lie about her twins and then Annie's descent which I believe won Watros's Emmy.
    • Rita's rape is an episode i constantly search on YouTube hoping one day that it will show up. I always feel like I may have seen it, but I was only 6 at the time and can never figure any of the things I have vague recollection of

FROM THE VAULT: NON-SOAP DAYTIME RATINGS: HIGHLIGHTS FROM AUGUST 1973 & NOVEMBER 1973:
    • The rape was in 1979 after they were married. Blake was the result of Holly cheating with him while she was married to Ed. I believe she was born in 1975.
    • No. Ed and Holly were married and having problems. She had an affair with Roger and that's when Christina--Blake--was conceived. The rape happened much later, after Holly and Roger were married.
