It’s Thanksgiving Day in the United States, and most soap fans are preparing to serve turkey, stuffing (or is it dressing?), pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, and many other festive dishes. Sadly, some of your favorite daytime dramas will either be preempted, serving up repeats or in the case of one show, airing an all-new episode thanks to its streaming availability.

On CBS, both “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” will be preempted on Thanksgiving Day (November 28) due to CBS Sports coverage of NFL games, particularly Chicago Bears at Detriot Lions. Later in the day, the network will carry NCAA College Football where Arkansas will face Illinois. On Friday, November 29 (Black Friday), CBS will continue airing NCAA Big Ten Conference Football games, with Minnesota at Wisconsin.

On both days, a repeat of “The Price is Right” will air on the East Coast but will be preempted on the West Coast. “Let’s Make a Deal” and “The Talk” are both preempted on the two days.

Over at ABC, the network will air a repeat “General Hospital” on Thanksgiving Day with episode #15511, originally aired on July 19, 2024. The holiday will also see the network carry a repeat of “The View” and an all-new episode of “GMA3: What You Need to Know.”

General Hospital

On “General Hospital,” the episode sees Carly (Laura Wright) and Jason (Steve Burton) continuing to celebrate Jason’s newfound freedom on the footbridge, which is where they discuss what to do about Sonny (Maurice Benard) now that Jason has completed his assignment for the FBI. Meanwhile, Josslyn (Eden McCoy) hands Trina (Tabyana Ali) something that fell out during the move into their new apartment – the turtle dove Spencer gave her. While remembering her lost love, a teary-eyed grows frustrated with her inability to move on from Spencer. Josslyn has news for Trina: her grief will never truly go away.

Elsewhere in Port Charles, Cody (Josh Kelly) and Tracy (Jane Elliot) are surprised when James (Gary James Fuller) stops by asking why he’s no longer allowed to take riding lessons with Cody. Meanwhile, Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) are forced to pick up James after Cody realizes he walked to the stables on his own. Later, Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) joins Cody where he frets about being shut out from Mac’s (John J. York) life. Hoping to encourage him, Sasha tells Cody to hold that the situation can be salvaged.

Later, Laura (Genie Francis) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) cross paths while paying a visit to a still-comatose Lulu, and Tracy finds Gio (Giovanni Mazza) in the nook helping himself to a late night snack. While spending time with the young man, Tracy finds herself charmed by him.

On Friday, November 29 (Black Friday), a repeat of “The View” will air on the East Coast. However, the talk show will be preempted on the West Coast due to ESPN on ABC sports coverage of NCAA College Football, specifically Oklahoma State at Colorado. “GMA3: What You Need to Know” and “General Hospital” will be preempted for College Football.

Days of our Lives

Lastly, “Days of our Lives” will be the only daytime drama series featuring all-new episodes on both Thanksgiving Day (November 28) and Black Friday (Friday, November 29). Episodes #14,998 and #14,999 will see Salem learning that the beloved Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes) has sadly passed away, with his wife Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) particularly devasted over the news. Also, look for the returns of several characters, including Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves), Eli (Lamon Archey) and Lani (Sal Stowers), Hope (Kristian Alfonso) and Shawn (Brandon Beemer), and many more, leading toward the show’s 15,000th episode (Monday, December 2).

Gearing up to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States, most soap fans will have to do without all-new episodes of the CBS soaps and repeats on ABC. Meanwhile, Peacock is serving an all-new episode of “Days of our Lives.” Here’s everything you need to know about your favorite soaps to help guide you through Thanksgiving Day.

    • I think Krista is too hot or her. I think the current actress works bc she comes across so basic. Thats not a dig but she feels very normal and relatable as an average suburban woman. I think if Krista was in the role, Id want more out of her but I dont think Jan is meant for bigger things

    • The sad thing about SC being a great actor is that his character has never worked. Ever. And yes if I don't know what Liam is about and just focus on acting... I can appreciate him. But as soon as I connect him to Liam... I cringe.  Maybe SC should run till he is still young and find himself a role where he can shine.
    • As I've said before I don't believe the fact that both sisters have cheating husbands (one in the past, one more recently) is a coincidence or anything random. It's pre-thought and pre-planned and the message is clear. Cheaters can be found in all shapes, forms and sizes. Some do it in the most blatant way, they are known serial cheaters and their wives know of their past hook ups (as Dani has already said... she was willing to forgive Bill for his previous mistresses... till Hayley came) and some are more masterfully disguised in the image of the perfect husband. The fact that Dani was jealous of her sister Nicole's happy marriage in the first episodes was not a coincidence. I knew it the first second I heard it. It made me wonder and think what is beneath Nicole and Ted's picture perfect life. The show painted two very different sisters and then gave them the same crisis. It was intentional and dramatically focused on how these women acted after that... How they kept or did not keep their dignity. The contrasts and the similarities are not random. They connected the two stories very well. Telling us that beyond the gates there are secrets... lies and betrayals. And sometimes the happiest ones have the biggest skeletons in their closets. Is all of this a cliche? A soap opera serial cliche? Yes. Does it still work? Yes. And did we need to start with something that is more universal and easier to stomach by the mass audience? Yes. This is only the beginning of the show in terms of stories and themes. We will have years ahead of us to explore different aspects of these people. The first couple of months it had to be a classic sex and betrayal story that makes more people hooked. It's universal. Again. Nothing so far about both husbands being cheaters is coincidental for me. It's too early for that.
    • Thanks, these are great! Joanne Curtis, another soap character punished for having an abortion

    • Yes!!! Mona feels  like one of my aunts, love the way she carries herself. Loved seeing Eva pop-up at the gambling place.  Monday was all around good soap. Can't remember the last time an entire episode held my interest.  Loving the fallout and reverberations from Ted and Shea-Butter Sheila's affair

. Tricia Mann Grant is 90s early 2000s quality FINE. As nice as it would've been to see Anita embrace Eva, I'm glad she didn't because we can squeeze a lot more years of conflict out of Eva, Leslie and the Duprees.   Lauren & Sheila, Viki & Dorian, Katherine & Jill all gave us good conflict for decades. Hopefully this follows suit. I understand the concern. Right now there's an issue of quality of black representation on shows more so than quantity of black shows. I'd like to see more predominantly black sci-fi, legal, political, supernatural or medical dramas over the typical who is sleeping with who. However, this is a soap, and this is what happens on soaps. White soap characters do these things all the time, but have the luxury of being seen as individuals, not representations of their entire race. Husbands/fathers like Todd Manning, Victor Newman and Asa Buchanan cheat, lie and swindle all the time but aren't seen as a commentary on white men. Black characters like Ted and New Dollar Bill should be able to do the same.
    • And that area of the DMV has a high-end glamorous casino the MGM National Harbor.
    • Even under the new writers, Jamey episodes are the shortest and the weakest A lot of people were unnecessarily clowny and bitchy today. There was a lot of fluff and filler too. And the dialogue was a little… ehhh as well. But welcome back, Kevin! It’s been a long time lol his return still seems really random but I don’t mind it. Philip’s actions make sense to me based on everything that’s happened to him lately and it could possibly set up more tension between him and Xander/Alex. And I wouldn’t mind seeing him and Kevin team up. I thought the actor did a good job too. Too bad that they couldn’t get Robert Benvenisti back though. I didn’t realize it in 2001 but he was hot

And, we got the word that Arianna wants to come home. I’m looking forward to that, and seeing her relationships with Gabi, Marlena, etc. on display and I hope that

As for Rachel’s birthday party… was Days hinting at something that we’ve been speculating about since EJ was shot?
