Thanks for the information. It certainly does impact the stories we see. My only point was that the average viewer age has not doubled in 20 years. It's been high for a long time.

The problem is that by telling stories with that 65+ demo in mind, you get planned obsolescence. You hold onto people who are dying and bring in no one new. The clock is ticking, and the soaps do not care.

The networks ascribe to the belief that in the age of streaming, there's no way to bring in new viewers. They operate out of fear -- fear that these blue-haired fraus will stop watching. DAYS streams so is a little bolder with some cultural touchstones (like gay characters), but just a little. I thought we'd get a more adult DAYS on Peacock. That hasn't happened.

I don't pretend to have the answers. I just know that when viewers can watch wildly interesting and adult series on cable and streamers, these network soaps look even more dated.

And in the end... all of the characters in the show act incredibly immature. Hope is like a teenager... Brooke is stuck in being Forever 30. Ridge has 0 character development. Only Steffy is acting like this grand-dame matron. So... it's quite the irony. They cater to older demographic, yet don't even TRY to write mature, deep, multi-dimensional characters. The end result is this strange show that has aged in appearance, but everyone still acts like teenagers. I would DIE for some maturity and a level of experience on my screen. A character, a real matriarch that is not only known for stripping to lingerie or sleeping with the in laws. Someone 65+ that can put these little b-tches back in their spots. That could have been a Taylor re-cast that was age-appropriate, but Bradley decided to make her yet another stuck in her middle 30s character. Sad.

All of this is on point -- ALL of it. I especially appreciate your comments about Will, who's written so absurdly that I have no words.

Will doesn't represent in any way a teenager, nor does he represent someone who's grown up around wealth. I don't know what they're going for with him, but it isn't realistic or sustainable.

No one with those looks and money would act that way. No one that age would act that way. He's like some boy who grew up in a plastic bubble and who has no idea how to behave and interact with others. In this way, it's like he's on the spectrum and is clueless about social cues.

The one thing they've been good at? Making sure we know where his interests don't lie. So what does Bradley Bell do? Put him in a fashion house where we know he doesn't belong.

None of this is criticism of Crew Morrow, who's doing a great job with the crap they've given him.

Oh, how I just giggled at the fact that Will join Forrester because there were so many attractive young ladies working there. And not just one... but THREE. LOL. And I see we saw the love interest, too. Cute. And Steffy's reaction when Katie told her that Will was not even interested in fashion, but wanted a job took me out.

It was good to see Grace again. But the optics...

Taylee is suffering from WHAT????

No words. But God bless Taylee for reacting the way she did. I know she felt embarrassed. I was embarrassed for her. And Ridge's ego must have went up good.

So...Poppy has moved out. And yet...Bill and Katie STILL have not gotten back together. And now they are using the specter of Brooke to keep them apart? RME. Is this B&B or GH with the delayed excuses for a couple getting together...though that is a good reason re: Brooke? Was it not just last year that Bill ran to Brooke as soon as she and Ridge broke up...and then turned around and tried to get with Katie again 5 minutes later?

They could have done the camera angle better, but yes.

Hollering cuz that's true.

I mean all of the attempts to get RB in as NuTaylor...even updating the opening with a classy picture versus the one that KA got as Taylor...as if she is going to be special and then Brad Bell did her like THIS???

And it's such a pathetic way to reunite Tridge. Imagine knowing WHY your man is with you, and every time he kisses you... you realize he's with you not because he CHOSE and wanted to, not because he really loves you... but because he felt sorry for you nearly dying and developing cardiac issues...  Every time he makes love to you, you realize he's doing it out of pity. Bradley is treating Taylor's character like she's some kind of sick, homeless dog. Sad.

    • Jonathan Kellerman is definitely the most EON/Slesar-like writer in the business right now.  Unfortunately, he's almost 80 years old.  Interestingly, he has a son (Jesse Kellerman) who's about 45, who's been studying under him.  I believe what makes the Kellermans such effective mystery & crime writers is their background in psychology.
    • I never understood the point of Marchetti. Summer left the show for a job there in Italy. OK. When she returned they had Jack buy the company. Why couldn't Summer have returned and simply stated it was not a good fit, she missed her home , family/friends etc It was absurd that this internationally successful fashion empire could just be bought by a US cosmetics firm at the drop of a hat. What was the point when they never did anything with it at all? Summer simply could have gone to work at Jabot. And wasn't there some nonsense about an offshhoot called Marchetti Home? Was Phyllis attached to that at some point? This show...

    • And based on the previews for today, maybe we’ll, uh, finally see something

    • Haven't seen today's ep yet but so will be interested to see the clothes. So far I think they have been very character specific (even if I don't like some of them eg Kat's cutsie style) Anita is very showy/glittery, Nicole classic elegance, Dani sexy/bold colors etc. Unlike Y&R which seems much more generic. Also BTG pays attention to the men's wardrobe and has developed a style for the boyz-which is harder to do with male fashion. The absence of any of Derek/Ashley at any of these big events again demonstrates how they are in a different universe to the rest of the show. Not that a nurse and a fireman would be there but still they seem destined at this point to stay in their own lane and have little interaction with the core of the show.
    • Agnes had written for Bernard Grant for many years on TGL as well as Ernest Graves and Joe Gallison,Doris Belack,Robert Milli, and  Antony Ponzini at AW. So she would probably gravitate to writing a role with an actor in mind or choosing someone she had written for before who she knew could deliver.
    • Once Johnny Dallas' cut himself off from Laurie Ann Karr and their son, and once Laurie successfully recovered from her mental problems, she wanted a new, fresh, and healthy start for the next chapter of her life. She legally reverted her name and changed John Victor's  surname to Karr. After moving to the country (when Teri  Keane was dropped from the show), Bill and Martha Marceau legally adopted Jennifer, the baby girl whom they had earlier taken in when the child's biological mother, Taffy Simms (and other bio family members) proved to be unfit to raise her. Jennifer legally and emotionally became a Marceau, and gave that name to her own daughter, whom Jennifer birthed through surrogacy as a single parent. Et...voila! The Karr and Marceau legacies live on.

    • BLQ is having second thoughts regarding putting her baby up for adoption. Chase is upset he can't tell Dante. So both are putting this on at lulus feet. Saying she is holding it over them. Lulu is doing none of this.
    • Yes she absolutely was involved in that story which seems to have gone nowhere.  She didn't start to remove herself from the writing until 1973.
