DAYS: R.I.P. Drake Hogestyn (John Black, Days of our Lives)

I think it is meaningful how many young actors have expressed their admiration of him.

One gets the sense that there are many soap opera patriarchs who are jealous or dismissive of young talent.  Male actors can have big egos and when they see the next generation take their place as the romantic lead, it can bruise their self-concept.  But, reading these tweets and interviews, you get the feeling that Drake loved being a resource and a mentor to new talent, which is very commendable, and probably rare.

I really hope John isn’t offscreen for his final months. He should be living offscreen in Salem spending his final months with his beloved Doc.

I hope the new writers don’t decide to bring on the much-speculated 1986 baby.

Yes. It’s incredibly sad. They all hoped that he’d be able to return.

I’m hoping they’ll just say John is “in the other room” like they’ve done in the past with Alice, Mickey, Victor, and Doug, among others

On AW & GL the vets regularly mentored the new actors. VW & CK & Jerry verDorn to name a few.

They don't even have a kitchen lol.  This penthouse logistically makes no sense.  Is every other room in the house just attached to one long hallway?

The worst part for me is that I had no warning.  One day she just mentioned to John off handedly that she sold it.  I never got to say goodbye!!

It’s not a penthouse. It’s a townhouse. But even then it still doesn’t make sense. They should just bring back the house Marlena lived in with John and Roman.

The show has 100% referred to John/Marlena's current house as a penthouse, but they also have said townhouse before as well.

I wish they would bring back the Brady house too, but I don't think it's big enough for all the current occupants in the house.  I think last we heard in 1998/99 Roman re-bought the house (different set).  I wonder if they could bring it back.

So many sets that could/should return. The Martin house in 2015 was a wasted opportunity for a set. It genuinely was.

I feel like the last time we saw the actual Brady house set was when Sami was about to give birth in 1995, so it's been 30 years.  I think some pieces of the set were used for Bo/Hope and Abe/Lexi's houses later on.

I will have to look the set up.  I did like Bo/Hope's house, especially when it returned in 2015 (temporarily).

Yeah, he surprised Marlena with the house for Christmas ‘97 when she had to pretend to be in love with him. The set was later used for Abe and Lexie.

Where did Marlena live when she was married to Don? And before marrying him.

I feel like she lived in a small house. I can only recall Marlena/Sam's scenes right now and before Sam took over her life it looked like a house/cottage.  Her and Don seemed to have an apartment that I assume was his? I remember when FosterkidJohnny gave Kellam the key to Marlena/Don's house it had multiple other doors nearby in a hallway. She had a nice apartment/possible penthouse when she divorced Don and Roman moved in with his sleeping bag.  Someone might know better than me, but that's just what it looked like from clips. @JAS0N47 probably has the set lists to clarify.

Definitely lived in an apartment complex during the sleeping bag story. Also I remember when someone had been killed & Marlena was very upset & Roman was trying to  console her, they were in a kind of breezeway to the side of the apartments. Who was it who died?
