Everyone reacted reasonably, except for this actor playing Gio.  He either has to go (he's certainly not a young lead like Nicholas Chavez that they're setting him up to be) or they need to lean into his goofy inexperience and make him just do straight up comedy.

As someone with a lot of relatives from Brooklyn, Gio's lack of a Brooklyn accent is glaring to me. (Just getting this off my chest. Not worth doing anything more.)

I totally get it and I am not really disagreeing, but is it possible Gio tried to lose his accent?  He went to Julliard and maybe he tried to tone it down a bit?  I am not saying Gio screams born/raised in Brooklyn or anything, but I thought maybe his classically trained artistic background and schooling might make a difference.

I don't think Brook Lynn or Dante really have accents either.  They use more slang that seems to align with Brooklyn, but don't have noticeable accents IMO.  Olivia and Lois are the only ones that actively try to use one.

The scenes look very flat, too bright, they are never atmospheric, the actors don't move around the set in a realistic way, not too mention that the sets like IKEA rooms with no diversity or any personal items around. I have noticed that Gary Tomlin episodes look better and I was never a fan of his work.

BTW I like this Molly a lot.

Exactly; Brook Lynn semi-turned it on when Lois first came back, but that did not stick very long. Even Olivia's accent isn't as pronounced as it was back when Lisa LoCicero first debuted. It's become quite... posh.

They're using 4K cameras, but I don't think they're using a post-production for that of a 4K camera product. When these cameras were introduced back in 2018 they weren't as blue or as cold. I did some brief colour changes based on the August 1 episode, and these are the results:

Even the slightest of changes just makes the scenes look more... dynamic and interesting. It's very blue (what airs) and, it shows, especially in the lighter-lit scenes. And I think Gary Tomlin has that history at other soaps that I'm not sure if others do or not, and it shows.

Thank you, that is what I talking about. Now I want to watch episodes edited by you lol.

All it takes is for those who post-produce the episodes to spend a little bit more time on editing the colour grading; it feels like they're taking the product, as taped, and not applying any kind of filter to the episodes. A little TLC goes a long way.

Other examples from other episodes:

Obviously, video editing, you'd likely be able to adjust things here and there more (I would assume) beyond a flat image via Photoshop.

This looks sooooo much better! Brava! More cinematic and reminiscent to classic years. I hate the original look. Looks like reality show.

But it also goes to show you have the lighting is different from each set, etc and how lighter sets are affected differently in comparison to sets (like the PCPD) that are not as... light in their colours.

Thank you; it's definitely about finding that balance between that "classic" look of a soap opera, and using modern technology. Doing nothing, in-post, is laziness at its finest. It's the same thing when people go in and remaster film to 4K... you have to do manual work in-post to make things look right.

Reminds me of AMC during their last year with that editing. Looks so much better!

YES! The high definition production model at All My Children has to be my favourite of all-time, and it's a shame General Hospital was not given the same treatment. Instead, their HD production model suffered with non-HD cameras, etc for years.

Coming into August...and all I can think is...REWRITE.

And by rewrite, I am talking about Ava telling Wagger about Sonny and the meds. I expect Ava to move smarter than that. Or if the plot was going to go THAT way, I would still expect that if she wanted him to know, Ava would find a way for him to find out and her hands are clean...like how she figured it out without anyone, but Valentin figuring out that she knew.

I'm still trying to wrap my memory around if Ava ever figured out that someone was on to her knowing or if Val even tried to approach her.

About the blue thing- that’s not just Tomlin. There have been times on this show in the recent past where people’s teeth looked blue due to the lighting and filming. It used to be especially bad in the Metro Court restaurant/bar set.

The accident has infused some much needed urgency into the show so far. However, it’s so noticeable how bland the scripts are once again compared to Dante’s shooting. There was so much depth and honestly better production in those episodes than in what I have seen so far. It was especially noticeable when Kristina arrived at the hospital and the way they filmed the revelations of Alexis and TJ. Mulcahey may be in the credits but he is long gone from the actual product.

No, so far, Ava is in the clear.

And it's being very clear of that as I play catch-up I am afraid.

The writing is no longer as 'polished.'

Oh, I know it's not a Tomlin thing... again, it's the sets, the lighting and the choice to not edit the final product.
