For the first time since his character was seemingly killed off on “General Hospital” earlier this year, actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Spencer Cassadine) has officially confirmed his exit from the daytime drama series after posting a formal statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.

“I’m so appreciative of the opportunity that ‘GH’ gave me, and I wouldn’t be as busy as I am professionally if it weren’t for the talented producers, writers, directors and fellow actors,” began Chavez in his statement before calling attention to Frank Valentini, the show’s executive producer, where he called him a “mentor and friend.” Chavez also notes he and the show are keeping the door open for a potential return should the opportunity arise.

“Frank Valentini is a mentor and a friend, and we’ve had some pretty extensive conversations about my future on the show. While there are no current plans for me to return, we are still talking very openly about future possibilities for Spencer in Port Charles.

“Beyond the people I’ve already mentioned, I want to take some time to thank and honor the ‘GH’ fan base… especially the Sprina fans… who must be THE most loyal and kind fan base in the universe of entertainment.”

In closing, Chavez stated, “Words fail to show the depth of my gratitude, thank you, I love you all very, very much.”

Chavez’ comments come just over one week since TVLine reported that the actor would not return to the soap opera, particularly as his name had been removed from the show’s official cast list, which is typically shown every Friday during the closing credits.

Chavez joined the cast of General Hospital in July 2021, taking over the role of Spencer Cassadine, previously portrayed by Nicolas Bechtel, after the show decided to age up the character. Spencer was last seen onscreen during the January 31 episode when he fell overboard during an escalation with his ex-girlfriend Esme (Avery Kristin Pohl).

Last year, Chavez was cast as Lyle Menéndez for Season 2 of the Ryan Murphy-produced “Monster” anthology series, which scripts famous murders. The first season followed the story of Jeffrey Dahmer, a cannibalistic serial killer who was also known as the Milwaukee Monster. Evan Peters (“American Horror Story,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past”) played Dahmer.

Officially titled “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story,” Chavez will appear opposite Cooper Koch, who plays Erik Menéndez, and Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as their murdered parents, Jose and Kitty Menéndez. The series has not been given an official release date.

I think we all knew that this was gonna happen sooner or later. He's got a bright future ahead of him and I hope it all works out for him.

I would accept a Spencer recast. Sprina already survived one recast and I think it could survive another.

Thank you @Errol for the confirmation. I had seen things while playing catch-up, but nothing I trusted. So happy to see it here now that I have some time today.

I loved Sprina. And it was (mostly) nicely done. And he was a big part of it.

It would have happened eventually re: his leaving. So I wish him the best.

    • I'm furious that hack new producer is bringing back the wrong Ben Mitchell. Just bring back Harry Reid for goodness sake. Pleased about Zoe.
    • I've said it before, and I'll say it again (and again): CBS should have extended Angela Lansbury the courtesy of going out on HER terms, not theirs.  The network, Universal and Corymore all should've sat down together before the start of the last season and discussed how to ensure that MSW would go out with a bang.  Leave it on Sunday nights, of course, but really pull out some stops: big name guest stars (Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth Taylor immediately spring to mind), more on-location/international shoots, maybe convince Peter S. Fischer and William Link to return as consultants, you name it.  But give her and the show the dignity they were due. I do, too, but that's why I love her so much.  She had every right to call him and the rest of the network out, but didn't, because she was simply too classy to do that.  God bless her.
    • Its not right or safe but I notice I dont always lock my doors either   BTW, I only see that happening in Dani's house, and I assume her kids have the key.  Othr than that we've seen Dani just walk into Bill's house but that's been an actual plotpoint

And I’d love to see that beautiful smile a lot more There’s just one problem… that should’ve been sent packing with Uncle Ron
    • Yet another reason some of the characters need servants.  Since some of the sets do not include front doors, servants could answer the off-screen door and escort guests into the living room(s).
    • I remember them showing a map of Michigan during one of Rachel's adventures, and you are probably correct here.  But the map may have been used in 1978, when Sven kidnapped Rachel and characters were searching for her. They had no idea Sven had hidden her right there on the Cory estate.  So that's just another possible sighting of the infamous map.
    • The one thing that drives me nuts about this show is that all these wealthy people never lock their doors and everyone just walks in without even knocking.  I live out in the boonies with no neighbors close by, but I always have my doors locked day or night!
    • All the best people are at the bottom of the list. Lauren, Michael, Chloe, Traci, Ashley, Mariah, Sharon, Amanda, Devon. I’d rather see more of these people than anyone in the top 10.. (with the exception of Jack and Diane) because I am still enjoying their scenes.
    • The live video tribute to Drake last night with current and former actors Thread with link to video: https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/68987-days-currentformer-actors-live-video-tribute-for-drake-hogestyn  They said that the episodes were filmed out of order over a span of time. As we already knew, re: the upcoming memorial service (not spoiling the airdate here)... the memorial service was taped *before* Drake passed away, and then the studio was on a preplanned hiatus, and the actors learned of his passing during the hiatus. New info from the video last night, is that some of what recently aired (such as June 3rd episode ) was taped *after* the hiatus, so after Drake passed away. Maybe I misunderstood what Martha Madison said, but it sounded that way. My god, I don't know how the actors filmed it, especially Diedre.
    • I did not expect Peter Reckell to be the one to break my heart today. Incredible scenes with Bo and his family.
