Sad but true. I'd heard The Talk wasn't doing well but when I recently looked at the ratings I was surprised just how bad it was doing. The drop off after B&B was pretty shocking.

Since we don't have much to discuss right now, I have a hypothetical question. If this ends up premiering and doing well, do yall think we will get another soap? Not on CBS, but do you think ABC or NBC will try their hand at it?

I'm not sure if we'll get one on broadcast, but it does feel like an inevitability that we'll eventually get a soap exclusively developed for streaming.

With that said, the mouse is experimenting with the All My Children brand with the Lifetime movies...

True. I could see them pivoting to a tv series for that. I wouldn't be surprised if their overall goal is to use those movies as a pilot to see if there is an audience. I know Lifetime is trying to reinvent it's content so I could see an eventual AMC reboot landing there as well.

Good question. I think it depends on what "doing well" means. We're all REALLY excited here about BTG, but it's not going to be a cakewalk to get "good" ratings. My fingers are crossed, but I honestly think ratings won't be as high as we're expecting.

ABC and NBC would have to cancel extensions of their GMA and Today franchises to make room for a new soap, and I have a feeling those afternoon news/entertainment shows are very inexpensive.

I think off-the-hook ratings -- something like those of TPIR or even Y&R -- would open TV execs eyes to more soaps, but I don't expect that to happen.

I don’t think NBC ever would on broadcast television. Their affiliates are so fickle and that news show that replaced Days does well enough and costs nothing to make. Maybe on Peacock, if they could produce it as cheap as they do Days. ABC possibly would, or perhaps they would revive one of their cancelled shows.

I really believe the soap opera formate of 5 shows a week could be so beneficial to these streamers. It’s obviously helping Peacock having Days in terms of consistent viewers. Having new and interesting content everyday on platforms that often can go weeks without putting out something that hits with viewers could only help make these companies money.

Imagine if Netflix produced a few less episodes of their big name shows, put that money into producing a 5 day a week soap with the same talent they have in there other productions. I think audience reaction would be very surprising for them.

    • I really CAN'T with the two dolls comment. It's so cynical. So disgusting. A billionaire telling normal working people this is just... you can't make this sh-t up. That's comics villain level of vile.
    • This episode was on fire and definitely the best the show's done so far.  And of course the two big reasons were TMG and Ambyr Michelle who were phenomenal.  This could be both their Emmy reels.  Sad thing is they will probably be in the Supporting category so only one of them will win.   Claybon was pretty good when Martin confronted his dad. I'm glad to see he's improving.  I also liked that scene with Andre with Eva, showing some compassion with his cousin.  Now that the secret is out, Eva and Leslie can start to interact with more of the cast, like at the end of today's episode with Leslie showing up at the Dupree's.  And hopefully that will help the show be not as boring - this storyline was the only one that was truly interesting, and now it gets to branch out.  Minor nitpicks: bad editing during the Eva/Leslie/Ted scene by themselves, and when Bill was rubbing Hayley's feet.  They gotta clean this up.
    • It's the best episode ... in months.
    • I'm sorry to respond so late. It's just this is the first time I'm seeing this. You are amazing! Thank you!

    • I think I can help with pointing to a period where to start watching. The show is available in youtube in multiple playlists that I'm sure someone already sent to you, so I won't do that. You can easily find them also by typing Edge of night and the year you are searching on the youtube search engine. Mid 1979 till the end (1984) are pretty much 90 percent there thanks to some amazing uploaders. I would suggest for a new viewer a starting episode of 6077 - it's the episode that begins the Mansion of the damned storyline. Before that... it's the end of a prior storyline and I found it very confusing and hard to watch, because you are getting the climax of something that was happening long time before you start. You can start watching from 6077 - the episode where Nola gets the offer to do the movie script... and just go from there. Once you watch this episode... you won't be able to stop.  Quite frankly if someone had told me to start with this episode... I would have spared myself the struggle of the other 30-40 episodes before that. If you need help with links or playlists... I can also help, and you can message me anytime.
