Months after announcing the postponement of “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” due to the then ongoing Writers Guild Strike, which officially ended on September 27 with members ratifying the new contract on October 9, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced on Tuesday that it has formally rescheduled the Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle ceremony, which will now take place on Saturday, December 16 as a luncheon event. The organization did not announce a new date for the main ceremony, which was scheduled to air on CBS earlier this year.

Dubbing it an “exciting weekend” of Emmy festivities, NATAS will kick things off on Thursday, December 14 when it holds a private reception to honor the 2023 Daytime and Children’s & Family inductees into the Gold & Silver Circle honor society. Honorees include former “General Hospital” executive producer Wendy Riche (writer/EP for “The Bay”) and “General Hospital”/”Bob Hearts Abishola” star Vernée Watson (Stella), among others.

On Saturday, December 16, legendary talk show host Maury Povich, who was previously announced as a Lifetime Achievement Honoree for this year’s Daytime Emmys, will receive his award at the Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle ceremony. The event will occur at the historic Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, starting at 12:00 noon PT.

The Children’s & Family Creative Arts ceremony will also take place at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel on Saturday, December 16, mere hours after the Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle ceremony, starting at 8:00 p.m. PT. As for the main ceremony, “The 2nd Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards” will take place on Sunday, December 17,  starting at 5:00 p.m. PT, topping off the weekend’s festivities.

At press time, the SAG-AFTRA, the union representing television and film actors in the United States, remained on strike. However, due to the nature of its contract, SAG-AFTRA members appearing on Daytime Dramas, Talk Shows, and other Non-Dramatic Programs recognized by the Daytime Emmy Awards work under the guild’s Network Code agreement, which remains a non-struck contract. The majority of programs recognized in the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards competition were similarly produced under agreements not subject to the strike.

However, some Children’s & Family Emmy-nominated programs remain struck. As such, NATAS salutes the nominated performances of those SAG-AFTRA members who appeared in these programs but acknowledges that it is a violation of the guild’s strike rules for such members to promote or publicize their nominations for struck work.

“We are pleased to honor once again the writers, performers and other creators that inspire and entertain audiences of all ages,” said Adam Sharp, President and CEO, NATAS. “We look forward to a fun-packed weekend that underscores the amazing scope of content making a difference in viewers’ lives.”

The full list of nominees for the Daytime Emmy Awards can be found here. Nominations for the Children’s & Family Emmys were announced on November 2 and can be found here.
