“General Hospital” star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) will welcome actress Sarah Joy Brown as his first guest of 2023 for his podcast series “State of Mind with Maurice Benard.” The episode will be released Sunday, January 1 on the show’s YouTube channel.

“I’m excited to see it, thank you for talking with me,” stated Brown in response to a tweet by Benard in which he informed her that he just finished editing their episode together.

Details of what the two discussed in the episode was unknown at press time.

Appearing in numerous daytime dramas, including “As The World Turns,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “Days of our Lives,” Brown is probably best known for her three-time Daytime Emmy Award winning portrayal as Carly Corinthos on “General Hospital.” She originated the role in 1996 and remained part of the show’s cast until 2001. From 1999 until her departure, Brown worked alongside Benard as they helped create the supercouple known as  “S&C” or “CarSon.” In 2007, Brown returned to “General Hospital” as a new character named Claudia Zacchara, a mob princess who also was romantically involved with Benard’s Sonny character. Outside of daytime soaps, Brown has also starred in such shows as “V.R. Troopers,” “Cold Case,” “Beacon Hills,” and more recently, “Studio City,” among others.

“State of Mind with Maurice Benard” is the only podcast series where fans can watch their favorite daytime stars, past and present, discuss important issues, particularly relating to mental health. As explained by Benard, “[‘State of Mind’] means being 100% present, feeling completely at peace inside of you, not letting your thoughts control your life and always looking for ways to be the best that you can be.”

On Sunday, January 8, Benard’s much anticipated discussion with co-stars Cameron Mathison (Drew), Laura Wright (Carly) and Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) from the iconic Graceland is set to air. The episode, which is being released in honor of Elvis Presley’s birthday, was taped in late October when the show brought cast members back to Memphis for the first time since pre-pandemic. The episode will also include a surprise guest who will leave Benard speechless.

It'll never happen (at least not as long as the show is on network), but I'd still accept Sarah back as Carly any day of the week. Laura Wright is a great actress who has done heroic work in the role in good times and bad and I've always admired her on multiple soaps, but it will never not be Sarah for me.

If I recall the live correctly, she mentioned how Marcil expressed admiration for the wife of Haim Saban, whom Brown has actively accused of hurting her career.

From a now-deleted tweet in September of 2018, she tweeted: "I was curiously fired just after I began to speaking up to my co-workers about my experience with Leslie’s friend Haim Saban and his former partner Shuki Levy. But it wasn’t the first time Leslie singled me out" and then she tweeted: "One of the grossest things I’ve ever seen on Twitter was Vanessa Macil shouting out her love for Haim Saban’s wife. Vanessa who’s known me more than 20 years and knew full well what I’d been thru. #ThankyouVanessa"

And, because of this, she mentioned how she & Benard were not really on speaking terms, considering how close Benard is to Marcil.

    • There were lots of spoiler pics for week of May 5-9 of Devon/Lily/Holden/Damian/Amy/Nate/Audra. I posted them because they all looked so pretty. I was hopeful.  Sorry to in the recaps that it was mostly discussion of Dumas!
    • Random Hump Day Reactions Despite my better judgment about commenting on appearances—what is going on with Philip’s skin? He looks distractingly sunburned. Did the makeup team forget to use foundation? Or powder? Or that they’re broadcasting in high definition? Meanwhile, Kristen looked like the saddest Alice in Wonderland. The dirndl was cute, but everyone in that mansion could desperately use a pop of primary color—and a reason to smile. It’s one thing for Belle to be blinded by love for EJ. It’s another for her to hear him admit to kidnapping Rachel and treat it like a punchline. There's zero urgency from anyone about getting Rachel or Kat back to Salem. Kristen and Cat seem to forget their long-lost mothers are still being held elsewhere against their will. At least when Doc, Kayla, and Kate went missing, people cared. Paulina even talked to that urn! (Still waiting to find out who was in the urn, by the way…) Raise your hand if you believe Rachel innocently brought up Tate’s baby. If your hand is up, do not click on any suspicious email links today. You’re vulnerable. And finally, deep breaths: Jamey—or someone he edits—named the miracle drug Versavix. Fun fact: real drug names are developed by branding teams after the research is done. Versavix sounds like the draft name someone scribbled during a Red Bull crash and forgot to replace. This isn’t even a good fake drug name. It’s like they forgot that the same show once gave us a literal ‘love potion’ that made Sami fall for Austin. Versavix makes me nostalgic for the days of ‘L-dopa’ and Stefano’s mind control chips, at least they didn’t sound like a discontinued allergy medication. (crud, another day, another broken promise to stop complaining about this).
    • Brandon said that a couple of months ago, and MVJ replied in agreement.  I'm intrigued.
    • So many of the problems stem from there being one main family. As a result, Vernon and Anita don't have contemporaries to interact with which leaves them primarily as talk-to's. If and when they bring on her bandmates, it would benefit them to establish at least one as a main character with a family. If they ever brought on Jacob's mom, she could be another person that Anita could regularly interact with.
    • And in the Oct. 25, 1985, episode, a pre-fame Tony Shalhoub.
