As Crown Media prepares the release of its first set of movies based on the Mahogany brand, based on the Hallmark Card line of the same name, the company announced earlier this week that it is now in development on two new content franchises based on beloved Hallmark brands, Crayola and Dayspring.

“Hallmark’s wide-ranging IP consists of some of the most iconic and beloved brands of all time offering a wealth of storytelling opportunities,” remarked Crown Media’s EVP, Programming, Lisa Hamilton Daly. “We are exploring content projects from movies and series, to short-form entertainment and podcasts.”

The company notes that Crayola’s purpose is in helping raise creatively-alive kids and Dayspring’s purpose is to help people know and share Faith in true and inspiring ways.

Additional information on the different types of programming will be announced at a later date.

Production began last month on “Unthinkably Good Things,” the first movie in the Mahoagony series. The movie stars Karen Pittman who plays Allison, a woman at a crossroads in her career and love life, in need of the love and support of her two friends Melina (Joyful Drake) and Reesa (Erica Ash).

I predict we'll see a character named Joyful on either Y&R or B&B in the next two years.

Also, I can't believe that Hallmark is still around with a business plan based on people buying greeting cards at a mall to send by mail.   It's like if Suncoast Music was still relying on people buying CD's in a store in order to fund a streaming service.
