I’m starting a thread for news on mounting media layoffs as well as criticism of the media and journalism. Stuff that doesn’t necessarily or directly touch on politics.

Dire warnings after BuzzFeed laid off 15 percent of their workforce:

The media is already starting the campaign to help Republicans win in Georgia.

This guy is a producer for Medhi Hasan on MSNBC, who is prone to attention-seeking and out of touch comments. Birds of a feather.

Hey @dragonflies @marcelinewhat happened with Ryan in Ohio? I honestly never thought he had a chance but the media was giving him a lot of attention. Not sure that actually helps really nor does going on Fox seem to help. Did he ignore certain constituencies that could have helped him and try to win over some that never would have swung? Or was it a money and staffing issue.

It was neither. It's the electorate. Ohio is a blood red state now as the electorate has gotten older, whiter, and less educated. I don't believe it's possible for a Dem to win statewide here anymore. That includes Sherrod Brown. If he wins in '24 it will be by the skin of his teeth.

The GOP swept every statewide race and the numbers weren't even close. I consider the fact that he only lost by seven points to be a miracle.

That news about Tulsi Scam-ard was released last week and when I saw the brief headline, I thought it was the least surprising thing I had heard in months. She was destined to land there.

I just heard someone describe the state of Twitter as being like being in a burning Tesla where everyone is trapped inside.
