I don't think I saw his SNL episode. He has had so many high profile relationships that all seem to end badly. His first wife was Judy Carne (famous as the the Sock It To Me girl on Laugh in). They said he used to beat the crap out of her during their marriage. He then dated Inger Stevens (from the 60's TV show The Farmer's Daughter). She was found dead in 1970 of a suicide that looked suspicious. He was the last person to see her alive. He then dated Dina Shore (who was much older) and Sally Field (who refused to marry him). Then he married Loni Anderson who he abused and cheated on.

Kristy was a great actress. Her brother Jimmy never really hit it big like she did. That entire album is on youtube and screams 1978. The song Slow Dance is pretty good. Karen Carpenter loved it so much she did a cover of it. About 5 years ago I caught an episode of that show Judge Mathis (who I never watch) and this woman was on there with the last named McNichol. The first thing that popped in my head was, I wonder if that is their Mom as a joke. The Judge then asked her to tell about herself and sure enough she said she was Caroline McNichol the mother of Kristy and Jimmy. She was being sued by a young guy who claimed he was her boy toy.....LOL

I saw in one of the comments on the videos that there is another brother, Tommy, who was given away before the family hit it big, and has no real contact with them. If true, what a mess. No wonder Kristy struggled so.

Did you ever hear the story about the dead woman found in a hotel or a room where Reynolds and Susannah York were staying for a movie? That and the Dinah Shore stuff and then Sally Field kept Reynolds in the trash magazines every month for much of the '70s.

No, I hadn't heard about the dead woman. Ole Burt has a colorful past. That Dinah relationship was odd. What did she see in him ? I wish someone would release all of her 70's talk show so we could see it. I remember reading her Dinah and her daughter had a strained relationship during those years.

Yes, I had read about another McNichol child and wondered why you never saw him with his siblings. The Mom seemed like a train wreck of what I saw. On that Judge Mathis show she was bragging that celebrity men wanted to be with her and said even Warren Beatty wanted her to be his kept woman. I remember reading she controlled her children's finances long after they were of age. She made some bad investments.

I don't know if this was intended to be a commercial or what. It's listed as Crazy Curtain Lady. It appears to be filmed late 80's to the mid 90's. I almost expect Fran Drescher to appear and yell " Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaa". She really loves curtains.

This is really, really wonderful, if you get a chance to watch it.

Who is the man (we hear him and don't see him) talking to Cybill Shepherd (I think that's her) at 35 minutes? His voice sounds so familiar.

I’m surprised I’d never seen this before: a four-way conversation about film between Vivien Leigh (fiercely intelligent and eloquent, wielding a cigarette like a sword), critic Ken Tynan, and studio mogul Samuel Goldwyn on a 1958 episode of Edward R. Murrow’s Small World. It’s a great watch, and I love how Vivien so strongly defends Orson Welles.

There’s an odd bit at the top when Murrow addresses Vivien, then just 45, as “Grandma,” which Vivien laughs off. (I suppose if she’s not offended, why should I be?)

How come I haven't seen this before now! The one and only, the fabulous and lovely Ms Leigh!!

I loathe Ken Tynan though. He had some kind of personal animosity going on towards Vivien and constantly criticized her acting. He did change his mind about her Lady Macbeth after her death though, but too little, too late Kenny-boy!

    • I know this isn’t a usual or anywhere near universal take, but I loved the relatively brief Hal/Emily relationship/marriage more than I ever thought I would have with KMH/BH.
    • In my field (not that) I've written my share of dreck when it's what people wanted vs. something good. In the end what matters is the check. These pilots may not be great, but whether or not those writers intended otherwise they got paid.
    • I think there is plenty to critique and/or roast about the show, but I think there's also good bones and a lot of progressive improvement. It's the Bell/B&B formula and house style that is hardest for it to shake and the most necessary IMO, as well as some dead weight actors or characters, but that formula also apparently works for a lot of general viewers and I suspect CBS. OTOH it's also very modern in certain ways (sometimes overly hip dialogue, and some story) that still make it feel like a show that's bouncing between distant past staples of soap opera fundamentals and the present moment. And the old fashioned product placement is fun but also so goofy, while material like June is hysterical. Imagine leading with 'the underpass is where I live, and I like it there!' It's an unusual show in that way, because its identity and tone is still not fully formed. You don't know what it'll be. But that's normal at this juncture. The closest thing to a glimpse of the future foundation, I think (besides the obvious core family setup that's been there since Day 1), is the rivalry and future familial bond - and likely love/hate relationship - between Kat and Eva. A la many central sisters or siblings throughout soap history.
    • I loved Kelley Menighan! She was an MVP, especially during the show’s last few years. I always looked forward to anything she did with MM, BH, CZ, MW,  and the two grownup Alisons. Wasn’t a big fan of her with RH’s Paul. I always admired how she balanced being a vixen and being neurotic.
    • LLC can be a lot (lady definitely doesn’t phone it in), but her scenes with Rena made me wish they played actual sisters on a better platform.  Aside from JE, who is a legend so it’s no surprise when she’s excellent, Amanda Setton is my MVP of this story and she hasn’t always been great in this role. You see so much happening in her face as she’s navigating the shifts and layers of this story. She’s fully locked in. Glad Rory Gibson is getting his due on GH. I knew he had more to give than what Y&R was giving him. The writing will be a factor here as well because the character of Michael hasn’t been written well in ages (if ever, arguably). GH just can’t sustain the good stuff for more than a few weeks. Alexa Havins is a very good actress and was widely embraced as Lulu initially, but the character’s one-note abrasiveness has a lot of folks wishing she was gone at this point.
    • It's pilots like "Hurricane Sam" and "Anything for Love" that makes me so afraid to write professionally, because, my God, what if I actually tried and came up with something just as awful, if not worse (if that's even possible)?
    • JANUARY 1974 SPECIALS ADDED... Here are the January 1974 specials which have been added to the yearly list on page 76:

    • Wow, you have the patience of a saint watching through this period. I think the show does get better but it takes a while.  I won't give any spoilers about Zachary, but I will drop a slight hint: GL was probably trying to get a ratings boost by doing a story inspired by one of CBS's few primetime hits in the mid-1990s. And no, Zachary does not turn out to be a Texas ranger.
