Series director/editor and longtime Lynch associate Duwayne Dunham is back on the job.

Dunham edited Blue Velvet, the TP pilot film, and directed episodes 1, 18 and 25 (when Shelly meets Gordon Cole). He also worked in the editorial department on The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He is going to be cutting down the hours upon hours of footage for the new series.

Vulture interviews David Nevins:

And there’s Twin Peaks!  You’ve now formally announced it won’t return until 2017. How are things going?

David is deep in production right now. He’s probably at roughly the halfway point of his shooting schedule. Then he’s going to start editing, and when he’s ready, he’s going to give it to me. It has the potential to be really stupendous. He’s an artist working at a very high level, and from what I’ve heard from the actors who have been on it, it’s going to be an incredible work. It’s something he’s been living with and thinking about for many years. So I have really high hopes.

What was the drama between you and David Lynch and the deal for the show ultimately about? Was there any point where you worried, Okay, this might not happen?

He wanted the freedom to do the episodes, and do them the way he wanted to do them. There was a moment of confusion, and that’s when it looked like it was not going to happen, but as soon as I actually got David on the phone, it became very clear to me that we were going to be back on track. We didn’t want to announce anything until we were done, so it seemed like a two-month hiccup. But in my mind, it was really only a 48-hour hiccup.

Since the show will be in the can by the time it airs, you’ll be able to release all the episodes at once if you want. Is that under consideration at all?

I haven’t considered the various possibilities. I believe in a weekly release schedule, and I think David does, too. But as we get further down the road, we’ll discuss it.

Sherilyn Fenn, who's had financial (and other) troubles, is apparently bankrupt and unwisely blogging about it. I won't link to it here, but I hope her spate of new work at Showtime (Shameless and hopefully TP) is good news for her.

Finally. Hopefully signed and sealed for good.

Fenn herself has tweeted it so it's likely done and done.

I doubt very much she is playing Diane, as that is a recurring fan theory. But if it was to be anyone it might as well be her, she is an old, old associate of Lynch.

Lynch loves Dern and uses her anywhere and everywhere so I expected her to turn up, plus Dern was hinting about being involved in "a big project" with him in 2014, just prior to the TP announcement. Inland Empire is a long, impenetrable watch but she is spellbinding in it and Wild at Heart. And her Sandy is really the proto-Donna Hayward in Blue Velvet. (I've already seen people speculate she is Donna #3...)

From Zap2it:

Showtime president David Nevins is one lucky television executive — he’s seen nearly a half-hour of the new “Twin Peaks” series, which he confirmed Tuesday (Jan. 12) at the 2016 TCA winter press tour is about halfway done shooting and will debut in the first half of 2017.

“I’ve seen 25 minutes of [filmed] scenes. I have not seen entire, assembled episodes — there are no assembled episodes yet — but we got a sort of feel for various characters,” says Nevins, adding that the footage blew him away.

“It was stupendous … it was incredibly exciting. I don’t want to sit here and over-hype, but it was incredibly exciting. You definitely felt like you were in the hands of a master.”

Nevins laughs when asked if he gave creator David Lynch any tweaks — “no notes” — and adds that no official casting announcements are coming any time soon.
