Interesting premiere...lots of storylines set up for the next 9 episodes.

It's interesting to see how much location shooting they did in this episode - Helena's bedroom and the dining room, for instance, were definitely not sets, and Liam's post fight bar and the beach were locations too...it's good to see that Dame Joan's "I DID IT!" scene is getting repeat airplay, but I really want to see her back this season, though I have my doubts she will be.

How are we feeling about this season?

I don't find myself enjoying it as much this year as I did season 2. Here are my major gripes with it:

1. No Dame Joan

2. James Hill's annoying daughter

3. Liam's love life is a storyline priority

4. Eleanor and Jasper are still at first stage and haven't progressed at all

5. The reasons for Robert's disappearance hasn't been dealt with at all

6. Helena hasn't been at the centre of everything like she was last season

7. Cyrus' comic relief daughters have disappeared

Ultimately, this season is so much weaker than season 2 which was great. Gone is the dark mystery and back is the teenage One Tree Hill style angst.

It's official: the show has jumped the shark.

The only good good thing is Hurley and she is still magic in every scene she's in, but the tone of the show this season has changed so much. Gone is the mystery and in is the stupidity.

I'm going to stick out the last episodes because I am devoted to Hurley. No word on a renewal so far, but if it does return there are a number of major changes required.

I tried watching the first episode this season and quit.

When I saw Liam go to 'fight club,' I was done. Why do all soaps do this or the boxing story for young males when they don't have sh-t else for them to do? It is so stupid.

What happened to Ophelia? I thought she was supposed to be Liam's true love and they built her up all first season to get rid of her.

Elinor and Jasper is just stupid at this point.

IMO, this show f-cked up after season one.

Oh I disagree, Season Two was incredible. So much better than Season One. This show f-cked up after Season Two.

Ophelia was a dead weight Mary Sue type character played by an inferior actress. Getting rid of Ophelia made all the sense in the world and it freed up Liam for Season Two's random hookups and intense mystery about the Stuarts vs. the Henstridges. I was surprised that someone had the guts to admit Ophelia was a dismal failure of a character and to drop her.

Eleanor and Jasper are stupid. After Season Two's gripping conclusion with the soccer riot killing Ted, thanks to Eleanor and Jasper playing the footage of him killing the king, what we should have seen in Season Three was the planning of a Royal Wedding between them. It isn't to say it all had to go smoothly for them, but having absolutely no progress over three seasons is just pathetic.

Robert's return has been decent because the actor is capable and the writing for Robert hasn't been totally sympathetic. He is a grey character. Unfortunately, they don't appear to have a clue what to do with Liam as a result and thus we have the Fight Club scenes. Ridiculous. What we should have seen in Season Three was an intense rivalry between Liam and Robert (which they've attempted) that threatened the monarchy with the interaction of the Prime Minister (why hire the fabulous Laila Rouass in Season Two if you aren't going to use her again?!)

Cyrus and Helena have been utterly wasted this season. What we should have seen was Cyrus, dying, desperate, withering away, but hell bent on exacting revenge on Helena for the death of Violet and Helena's role in getting Prudence and his son out of the country. He would threaten the monarchy and Helena, who would be in search of love for herself after Alistair left her, only to be vanquished at the end of the season by The Grand Duchess of Oxford who had meddled throughout the season in Eleanor's royal wedding preparations, thereby repairing The Grand Duchess's relationship with the family. Not having Dame Joan Collins return for Season Three after she made Season Two is the greatest offence of all. Cyrus had to be written out after the third season - but you would be left with the natural conflict between Robert and Liam as the way to continue conflict in the show.

I am so disappointed for how Season Three has come together. Mark Schwahn should be ashamed of himself.

Wow. I just pushed myself to get through half of episode 8. What a pile of sh*t this show has become.

The only redeeming feature is Elizabeth Hurley. She is a capable actress and has flown in her part from the first episode. But the rest of the show is dreadful and quite frankly I won't be sad to see it cancelled. I don't see how it's going to get renewed, ratings are down on season 2's numbers.

The finale was good - where was this show all season?

Telling the episode through flashbacks tells me that towards the end of the season the creative team realized that they'd gone and made a mess of the show and that they hadn't accomplished anything and that they needed to put some major action into gear.

And boy, did they ever inject some drama.

I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it - but essentially they showed that *nothing* was as it seemed when it came to Robert's disappearance.

Elizabeth Hurley tweeted that she loves Joan Collins and has her fingers crossed that she returns for Season 4. Elizabeth, from your lips to God's ears. This show badly needs Joan Collins back as the Grand Duchess!

    • I know this board has very strong opinions about Scheffer's reign which run the gamut from brilliant to the nadir of the series.  I'm one of the fans. 2001 - 2005 are, imo, the second best years for the series. The first being Marland.  As The World Turns won Daytime Emmy Awards for Best Drama Series in '87 and '91. However, it wasn't until Scheffer came along that it won again...in '01 and '03. Plus it won for Best Writing Team in '01, '02, '04, and '05, an award it had never managed to win before and didn't again. When Scheffer left and Passanante was the main head writer (along with various other co-head writers) the show began to seriously tank. However, it wasn't just the writing. The budget was gone. The sets were made to be smaller or destroyed. There was all that weird hand held camera directing for a while. Scenes that were obviously shot in the hallway where the series was filmed. I think '06 - '10 is a roller coaster. There are some storylines I really enjoyed and some that were eye-rolling. Looking in the rearview mirror though, I can see that the actors, writers, directors, and crew were working their best with what money they had.
    • They are idiots! It seems crazy that Leslie is inserting herself so much into this investigation but everybody is falling into her traps. I find it to be an interesting back and forth and I'm still not completely sure who will win. I have a theory but I'm going to wait for more to develop before I say more. I feel like Haley has been more on the sidelines so I'm enjoying this new desperate streak she appears to be developing. I'm curious how it'll manifest overtime. I also agree with Dani that I am not convinced she's pregnant. I think she's trying to get pregnant but really just see's herself fading into the background and wants attention and validation from Dani and her family.
    • Thanks for sharing; the set, wow. Ten times better than the "penthouse" she lives in now (is that a surprise, though?).
    • I'd be happy to!

I just read the intro and first chapter and I'm already hooked. I know she had a co-author, but I can tell Kim is a firecracker and I'd love to have wine with her and talk sh!t haha. It makes reading the book pretty easy and entertaining. Intro - I had no idea she got a DUI! She shared 3 bottles of wine with a friend at dinner one night in LA, got in her car, was pulled over and thrown in jail overnight.  She admitted it wasn't her first time drinking and driving, but learned a valuable lesson that night. Out of the gate, she's not holding back or hiding anything. Chapter 1 - the announcement that GL was being cancelled. She was driving to Peapack and got a call from Bradley Cole who told her the news. First, that's BS that as one of the faces of GL, you hear the big news from a fellow co-star on your way to work. Granted, the "suits" were traveling to Peapack that day to tell the cast and crew, but still, seems icky. Ironically the news came on April Fools Day. Apparently that was the last day the network could decide whether to cancel or renew, but to Kim's point, couldn't they just pick the day before to avoid the callousness of the 'holiday'. Obviously a sad day in GL history. I thought it was funny, she said the one thing she thought of is "what would Susan Lucci do" in this situation, post-cancellation. And of course she said she'd "find something to hawk on the Home Shopping Network"  You all would know better than me, but part of the title of her book is "seven husbands" and in her intro, she uses Reva's full name: Reva Shayne-Lewis-Lewis-Spaulding-Lewis-Winslow-Cooper-Lewis-Lewis-O'Neill.  However, in the first chapter, she said Bradley Cole was "her 8th (or was it 9th?) husband". Well, Kim, that already contradicts the title of your book and your character's name you touted.

    • I was incredibly moved by these scenes, especially Peter's performance. It felt so tender and real, especially when you remember Bo just got out of a years-long coma and wasn't going to be able to put up a front. You're reminded of how long these legends have populated the show when you have a 70 year old man grieving men who were almost 90 or 100, but Bo's response to Victor's death was a poignant reminder of how fresh these wounds are no matter your age. Normally these types of moments don't even make it in soap episodes in recent decades as they are seen as too boring. The more somber moments being balanced by Bo meeting his grandchildren was also lovely.  And the scene where Bo forgave Shawn may be the only time I've been in lock with Brandon Beemer's take on the part.  There's a certain element of suffocation with soaps, as shown here, when you remember so many of the kids are named after long dead relatives, or when they grew up, were paired with the kids of other longtime characters. That aspect always makes me yearn for new blood (new blood that doesn't suck, anyway), but there are other moments, like those with Bo, which make me appreciate all the history the show has.
    • A funny scene, Roger and Sonni go out to eat, at that place that had a colonial theme (I love when soaps have very specific places to eat..I hated the diners on GL, ATWT and AW) and this is just after Rog came back and Sonni hit the headlines and the waitress scremes.."Oh, Roger Thorpe, and YOUR...please dont' hurt me..." and they are all like, "Hey, were just hungry!" (most soaps now have someone go on a murder spree and the rest of the cast and extras look like they havent heard about it."
