When Bobby died in 1985, the next season briefly teased JR vs. Pam when she inherited Bobby's shares of Ewing Oil before he set her off on an adventure in South American looking for Emeralds.

It is rumoured that had Patrick Duffy not come back in 1986, that the cliffhanger would have been Pam finding Mark Grayson dead in the shower due to a shady deal that JR was tied in.. and that she would have waged war on JR.

DJ has said in interviews that his Ewings were inspired in part by the Pollitts of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. He had originally envisioned Bobby as a Brick-like golden boy f_ck-up adored by his parents, while Gooper-like older brother J.R. had business acumen and got sh_t done without any praise from his father, which he so craved. Like Maggie, Pam marries into the dysfunction.

Bare Essence had Tyger marrying into her husband's family of wealth and dysfunction, only to have him die soon after their marriage leaving her to fend for herself (with some allies).

I think it's a shame David Jacobs and Mike Filerman have retired. I, too, would love to see what they might do with a show like Y&R.

I felt that was a great way to set up conflicts to keep the series going for a long time. However, too many roles had to be recast for the series (Donna Mills, for one, was not available, so they had to re-cast her role w/ Jaime Lyn Bauer) and I think that worked against it.

I am sure he would bring back the Foster family. I do wish Y&R would do that.

Interesting how even then people were complaining that shows were constantly being replaced and are never given a chance. Ironically Dynasty and Knots Landing wouldn't have aired as long as they did if the BTS politics were the same then as they are now.

Forgot to mention that the original conception of Dallas actually seems a bit more like Falcon Crest.
