Ratings from the 80's

It's interesting to see the growth, though weird that it doesn't reflect as strongly in the overall numbers for the year. Y&R's growth has been slow and steady from 81-82 where they were 5th with 7.4, to 83-84 where they're now solidly 3rd with 8.6, and by season's end, they're consistently topping AMC for #2! I Have to hand it to Bell for collecting everything together so expertly after such a steep slump not two years prior.

GL's upward movement is also impressive, though it's hardly ticked upward vs. GH since January '84, which does surprise me considering the popularity of the first PKL era within the fandom.

Weekly Nielsen Ratings Update: Labor Day 1978-May 1992:

Labor Day 1978-January 1990 (the time frame prior to Soap Opera Weekly's full weekly ratings, coverage which began on 1/15/90):

Missing Weeks:
1978...1
1981...1
1987...7
1989...3
1990...1
TOTAL WEEKS MISSING FULL DATA...13 WEEKS

September 1989-May 1992: (Soap Opera Weekly weeks missing full demos/affiliates/coverage/preemptions):
1989...3
1990...7
1991...3
TOTAL WEEKS MISSING FULL DEMOS/ETC...13 WEEKS

We should be getting an update on the 1987-1991 weeks in the next month or so, so there's still a chance most of the weeks missing above will be coming before the end of the year!

Understood. I don't think it would have killed All My Children. Maybe beat it not kill. Don't underestimate AMC. CBS moved Restless to 12:30PM to give it chance to beat AMC because head to head competition was intense.
