Those scenes with Sonny and Connie at his place on Thursday(?) were probably the best either of them have had in this entire horrible storyline, I think. And they both did really well and it was actually very well-written, IMO. Because it was honest, none of the other bullshit or camp or jokes. Even Tess and Jessica on OLTL never really had those scenes where someone told her/them/it to cut the [!@#$%^&*] - Natalie and Brody did that once or twice but it was almost always pitched at a different level, where one character was the victim or both were caricatures. Sonny is a very damaged person with a history of mental illness. He should have had this conversation months ago. It's the most I've liked Sonny in years.

The problem is that those scenes should've happened months ago, and they existed in a vacuum. Virtually nothing else in this horrible story, from the beginning to now, has been treated that way. And it's pretty much too late to make Connie fleshed out, in this current form at least - they never even showed the supposed therapy where she 'learned' she was the host personality. On any other show at any other time we'd have seen those scenes, as we did for Viki on OLTL years ago. That's unacceptable. And that's why they need to promote whoever wrote the other day's scenes to a more powerful position.

I think all of it is a problem. RH and LW play the hell out of their scenes and I think they put a lot into it, but - putting aside the fact that the scenes are extremely redundant re: his stories with Blair and Tea in the 90s - the material is written for characters who, like Todd and Blair/Tea on OLTL, have been together for at least a year or five years, ten years and have a wealth of experience with each other. In reality, Todd and Carly had sex and were 'together' for maybe eight hours; as you say, they barely talk about each other's lives or histories. They have never honestly discussed the Blair, Jax, etc. issues - or Sonny, for that matter, who was a constant stumbling block in Carly's long relationship with Jax, and who her bond with ultimately tore them apart. But regardless, Todd/Carly treat each other like they're Barbra and Robert Redford in The Way We Were. That's why it's false. To use horrible geek video gamer parlance, RC's team basically wants to import a save game - they want to apply all that history and just slap it onto Todd and Carly.

I could be actually torn re: these two, given the halfway-decent chemistry (which I still don't think is as hot as Laura's with Sean Kanan, but that's another story) if they wrote something new for them, some new way of relating to each other and reacting that wasn't just replaying Todd's best vintages with no actual background to draw from. Take crossovers in general: I was re-reading Harding Lemay's book, and I'm fairly convinced that when they moved the character of Robert Delaney from spinoff Somerset to Lemay's Another World and put him with AW fan favorite Lenore (Susan Sullivan) they didn't just reheat either character's popular material from their much-beloved prior pairings on their respective shows. They made something new, for the then and there, the here and now. GH is not doing that with Todd and Carly, and due to that weakness as well as having A.J. on the scene, they make Todd and Carly into the 'boring' option for Carly. That should not be possible with Todd Manning. That's why it fails. It's redundant, it's bland, and the rehash and the laziness insults my intelligence. It's not the actors. I don't mind Roger Howarth doing comedy - he's always done some of that. It's that there's nothing else the rest of the time but vanilla.

Well. She was never a FrankenRon pet.

I disagree. Love Julie. She hasnt been written for since the hacktini arrived. But I totally see Marcy/Emme whatever being the new focal point. Ron and Frank are the biggest fangurls ever. It's how they roll. Let's see. It wont be the wonder that is pickle relish. Maybe Wolfe will make another appearance.

And yet you think the same writing works for John and Sam. John doesn't know Sam screwed both her sister's fathers. John knows nothing of Sam's history of sleeping with men to con them. Sam doesn't know that John's father died when he was a teen Rafe's age. Sam doesnt know that john has a history of rescuing damsels then ditching hem. But you accept that.

    • I'm sticking to my theory that June is Hayley's sister (maybe a cousin since this show showcases cousins). Hayley really needs someone else to interact with because her being isolated to just Bill is not working. Eva only seems to have a backbone when it comes to Kat. She had no problem rubbing it in her face that they are sisters. Sharon hanging up on Anita was a good little nudge for that storyline. At least one of them having a name is promising to them actually showing up.
    • Reviewing the 1985/86 sophomore slaughtering and sophomore surprise. The Cosby Show 23 of 25 episodes finished #1 in their original broadcast, one episode finished 2nd, and one episode finished 3rd. Murder, She Wrote 18 of 22 episodes were the highest-rated drama in their original broadcast and 19 of 22 episodes were CBS's highest-rated scripted series in their original broadcast.
    • I really enjoy Tracy and Jason together as well in scenes. I’m a sucker for the surviving older Quartermaines, it’s just crazy that it took this long for a producer to tell Steve Burton we don’t care what you want, you’re a Quartermaine, get the [!@#$%^&*] over it. Murders actually solved in Port Charles? Hell no. The people in town don’t care so we’re not supposed to. God if they did this to usher Sonny off it would be the best episode of GH I’ve ever seen. I’d never complain again. I will never stop trying to get that 10% out of you It was so so good. There was so much promise. New old writers came back in and immediately said f.uck that, Sonny is a hero. You are not alone when it comes to Harper as Jordan. It’s a lonely island of 2 but you’re not alone. I enjoy her and especially with the new doctor.   Most of his time on this damn show has just been him in a hospital bed over a football injury we never even saw happen .
    • The casting of Reginald seemed to have been part of the reason for a lack of exploration of vulnerability in the character. I know Mary talked about not liking the change in Reg, but her disappointment was rarely explored once she left him.  For example, did she ever question if Reg was conning her in Paraguay, or was the Bay City version of Reg real? Imagine running a philanthropic center in Paraguay, and then becoming a social worker in Bay City?  It must have been so frustrating to once be able to provide anything that anyone needed, and now having to rely on government funded programs. And lastly, she went from a house full of servants, to living over a restaurant.  We were supposed to believe that she was so blinded by her love for Vince and the kids, that she never longed for her life when someone else washed her lingerie?
    • This was an excellent "filler" episode but I'd prefer to refer to it as a character building episode. I love that BTG is paced in a way that they can have episodes like this as opposed to the repetitive nature of the other soaps which don't leave room for this. The highlight for me was Eva with Martin's family. They've talked so much about her doing hair and I was so excited to finally get to see that in action. I thought the tension with Samantha was nice since she is a Dupree woman. I also love that Martin is trying to help Eva feel welcomed. I struggled a bit with Martin but he really shines when put across Eva, Kat and his grandparents. He definitely gets my vote for most improved. I also loved the scenes with Dani, Nicole and Andre. I love that Nicole clocked them so easily lol. I know many haven't enjoyed how Dani has acted since the Ted/Eva reveal but I find it so heartwarming watching her with Nicole. They clearly have a deep love for each other despite their differences and I love that Dani still tries even though her approach isn't always great and her whole life is a mess. Nicole/Dani is another one of the star pairs on the show. Anita and Vernon's scenes were excellent and the more I see of this story, the more I can't wait for the Articulettes to show up. I wonder if they've already been quietly cast and are filming. Not that I'm complaining, but the set is like Fort Knox so we really have no clue what is going on there. I can only hope we will see them soon. I also must say, Tamara Tunie looked stunning today.  The Jacob/Naomi scenes were another highlight. I like the working class vibe they give to the show. I'm also becoming intrigued about June and want to know more about how she ended up on the streets and who she's connected to. I hope it's Haley because she's in dire need of some backstory and development. The weak point of the episode were the Bill and Haley scenes. How are you going to have them having sex on his desk and we couldn't see a little bra or shirtless action from Bill? That was tired and a waste of time. They need to work on integrating them more with the rest of the canvas. I do not care about them anymore.
    • I always thought the cliffhanger was so anticlimactic, compared to the Dallas cliffhanger that year and three years earlier Kirby strangled Alexis, which Blake stopped. The Matthew cliffhanger was dull as hell.
    • Setting aside a general distaste for the story -- I was sitting here wondering how long Erica's doppelgänger Jane story lasted?  Also, how did it begin?  What was the setup for Erica to have a double?
    • Fixed. Thanks for letting me know.   DA's passing truly saddened me. More than many of the recent passings. I was holding out hope we'd get one more visit  before she passed.

    • Made even dumber with that Blake/Alexis chokehold, followed by the following season when Matthew resurfaced. WTF? There’s good reason I have skipped from Season 5 straight to Season 9 on a couple of my Dynasty rewatches lol. And Chase was supposed to die, but somehow they talked Foxworth back into one more season. They probably shouldn’t have at all.
    • Philip, like Reva, were characters that should have remained in the 80s and never been bought back to the soap.
