I know a part of it is nostalgia... BUT. I really really don't understand the desire in the last maybe 15 years on these shows to replace long standing locations with new ones that seem lesser. The yacht club was before the move, so it wasn't like they needed a new set. It basically took over the function that the Valley Inn's main dinning room seemed to have (well they had that and the little Valley Inn bar, I guess it kinda combined both), but was a blander set and made no sense for a city like Pine Valley. Maybe it was a Frons thing since it seemed to get worse under him (though I can't blame him for the idiotically named Holidays)--but...

Hated that too.

They clearly were at least organized by family in the photo shoot except for a few minor exceptions. It's not a reach to say they were organized by storyline (teens pretty much aligned in back) or potential pairing - paired as enemies, teams, or romantically - in some cases, as well.

In a hotel room I think at the yacht club.

I think it's a dangerous mentality the way some writers (and a lot of fans--but there's no danger there really) and producers focus first and primarily on who has "chemistry", who needs a man, etc, instead of first focusing on characterization, what's missing from a character's life or what kind of motivation or desire do they have (and I don't mean a relationship), etc. I mean if you look at many of the most popular soap couples, they more often than not seem to have had happened kinda accidentally and the writers went with it. Or they are paired up because they have a common story or goal and it comes from the story organically (I don't mean when writers say "so and so looked good in that press photo standing with so and so let's make them a couple so let's have them get locked up in a room together accidentally for a week!")

Don't tell Jesse that that photo clearly shows that Angie is leaving him. :(

In all seriousness, I do agree that there's some of that going on--but most of the pairings are more familial, something we already know. I'm sure they have some sort of bible (although many have said that they didn't have time to do the kind of complete bible these shows often would get) and story outline but I think it's too soon to think the writers know who's going to be paired with who, etc.

After the shows were canceled someone from ABC...I think it might have been Sara Saedi?(former vp of programming) was giving examples of some of the stranger things Frons chose to obsess over, and one of them was in fact getting rid of the Valley Inn because he didn't think that environment was appealing to younger viewers. The other one I remember was he didn't like OLTL's focus on print newspapers because he thought they were dated.

I'd love to read more things like that--but both examples make complete sense. Almost all of the main locations put in place during Frons' decade on AMC were cheap looking attempts at being trendy or something.

:D

Or David, another kid... I liked her in the role too. I'm in no rush to have her on, right now, but I agree.
