HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

Leave Jonathan alone. He's recovering from all the Harvey Wallbangers he had last night.

Thanks Pine Charles. hug.gif

A Little OT but I want to get into OLTL because this reboot is intriguing me. I already know stuff about the early years like the Carla Gray story, Eterna, Buchanan city...etc. Are there any suggested YT clip I need to see? Basically, I know some of the stories (Meaning I read about them) but I would really like to sink my teeth into the show.

It may matter because minimums for these projects are not that high, and I would be surprised if PP can offer much above those rates to start. Plus, many of these actors were working above minimum for the hour version of the show, and these rates are based on 1/2 hour format. It may not pay to work on the East Coast if you are located now on the West Coast.

who knows what the taping format will be like. It could be somethnig that an actor can easily come in and shoot several weeks worth of episodes in a more condensed time and then go back. Recurring and ones on the backburner can make it work in their favor even better. I dont think not living on the east coast automatically rules a person out, especially if they dont already have steady work coming in.

It certainly doesn't definitively rule out anyone - however, if the show isn't shooting telenovela style (according to Thom Racina), and the two shows are sharing studio space, it does allow less room to condense the shooting schedule. Realistically, even if they shoot in a set and/or block fashion, the sets, more than the actors' schedule, will be the determining factor, which is why with AM, for an example, PP may have to start without her for the initial reboot.

And this is how FV has made GH more profitable - by taking a set based shooting schedule, and pushing it even further with a block shooting schedule.

They could get Chandlers shored up quickly if they wanted. They are recasting JR now, you can recast Scott and Coiby easily if warranted, and SG has already said she would be interested. We really need to get some more families done.

It seems all the younger Chandlers will be re-cast, and the only strong way for audience members to become attached to them is by surrounding them with familiar faces, at least to start.

Jennifer B. and Jamie L. have expressed interested. Stephanie G. isn't a true Chandler to me, but would be welcome if still attached to a family member. Hopefully, Julia B and David C will be considered, and will consider, joining the show, if even to just help with the relaunch.

I thing Maddison would be a good Courtlandt. She reminds me of Nina! Maybe she could be a cousin??

What is the difference between a Set Based and Block shooting schedule? I have also heard the term "Scene Based". Just wondering. BTW I tried google and couldn't find my answer.

Let's take Y&R as an example - they were one of the first shows to tape the show by set, rather than scene order. They used to shoot 6 shows over 5 days. They would shoot one entire script on a day, but then tack on one additional group of scenes (in one set) from the sixth show based on which sets were up that day. Thus, at the end of the week they would have taped a total of six shows over five days.

Block order means that they would take a singular set, ex. Newman Ranch, and they would leave that set up for a day or several days, and shoot several scripts that involve that set only.

Please no, they already established her background. If she is Cortlandt now, let it be that in the year and half that has passed, she ended up married to Pete Cortlandt instead of Scott Chandler, and we find out over time why.

Totally forgot about her past.

I am still trying to figure this out. So basically, they would shoot an entire episode like on a Monday then once they got done they would just leave the sets up until all the scenes for the rest of the week were shot. So I am guessing they would take sets down once they were done with them and replace them with another set. Sorry....

Monday - Episode 10000

Newman Ranch 5 scenes

Crimson Lights 5 scenes

Abbott Living Room 5 scenes

Jabot Cosmetics 5 scenes

Insert Scenes - Episode 10005

Jabot Cosmetics - 4 scenes

Tuesday - Episode 10001

Newman Ranch 5 scenes

Crimson Lights 5 scenes

Michael's Office 5 scenes

Genoa High School 5 scenes

Insert scenes - Episode 10005

Genoa High School - 6 scenes

At the end of the week, they shot episode 10000 through 10004, plus accomplished taping all of Episode 10005 by picking up a set of insert scenes each day, which is decided by what sets are up each day. It is very time consuming taking sets up and down, so they do their best keep as many up as possible to avoid turnaround time for the crew, but a lot depends on the writers keeping sets in mind when writing, some are better than others.

In order for a block shooting schedule to work, the writers need to be very far in advance with scripts.

Monday - Episodes 10000 through 10006

Newman Ranch - 30 scenes (this is all that shoots this day)

Tuesday - Episodes 10007 through 10012

Newman Ranch - 25 scenes (this is all that shoots this day)

Wednesday - Episodes 10000 through 10006

Jabot Cosmetics - 30 scenes (this is all that shoots this day)

Thursday - Episodes 10007 through 10012

Jabot Cosmetics - 22 scenes (this is all that shoots this day)

Friday - Episodes 10000 through 10006

Genoa High School - 28 scenes (this is all that shoots this day)

You can save time, if there is enough room on the stage, by setting up all the sets each Monday and/or by keeping more regular sets up for longer periods of time. Newman Ranch was often a standing set - meaning it was almost never taken down. Or just having crew stay when sets must be changed out, but it happens less frequently this way.
