Members alexisfan07
Essentially 15-18 regulars for OLTL is the plan, he wasn't sure how many else would come and go as recurring or do arcs. And my comment was that I wasn't sure how they would work with the core families and still have characters for them to date of boff with such a low character count. He also wasn't sure if they were gonna focus on tr cast at tr end if the show or dig into some characters that haven't been on in a while.
Members allmc2008
Since that truck load of lube keeps floating around the place maybe it should be the new SON mascot/Logo! Just kidding!
Members alexisfan07
LOL at dead weight cast. Interesting thoughts.
Members Khan
Let's see: Viki Clint Bo Nora Kevin (maybe) Joey (maybe) Jessica (maybe) Natalie Matthew Destiny ...and Dorian, Blair, Todd (maybe), Victor (maybe), Tea (maybe), Starr (maybe), Jack, Sam. Already, I'm at 18 characters, and I feel like something, or someone, is missing. Maybe you're right, alexis, or maybe I need to rethink who are essential to the show going forward. Members allmc2008
I think they should for both AMC and OLTL start with the original core families. Of course the Buchanan's are a fixture in One Life much the the Chandlers on AMC so they will have to include them. Besides them the Tylers/Martins need to be first for AMC and the Segal's (SP?), Lords, Wolek's, and the Gray's for OLTL need to be brought back. Members Khan
Yep, I am missing someone. Actually, I'm missing Danielle. (I'm missing Nigel, Renee, and Roxy, too, but maybe they aren't as essential?) Which changes my original count to 19. Which is still...okay. Unless you want more characters from the past to return -- in which case, yeah, I think the core families, the Buchanans and Cramers, would suffer. Members allmc2008
I think it would be refreshing with 18 characters to keep up with though.....
Members alexisfan07
I'd assume Sam doesn't count, I doubt he would have a contract. Fingers crossed for Rama and Cutter to balance out the vets with fresh faces but that's a solid list. I don't know if we're getting Roxy, Ilene said she hadn't been contacted as of fairly recently. She was so tied to Rex, Gigi and Shane, more so than Natalie, so it makes sense. 18 would be refreshing as long as there enough characters to create couples out of without it being incest lol
Members Khan
That's true. And that would bring the count back down to 18. Nevertheless, what about love interests for unattached characters, such as Kevin, Jessica, Joey and Natalie? Those individuals would need to be on recurring, which guarantees an almost revolving door of love interests for these characters, even more so than before. Members alexisfan07
Yea exactly, it's a small number. Perhaps the guy was a tad on the small side but it does make sense given the shorter running time and budget. How many regulars does B&B have? Members Khan
If I had my druthers, OLTL 2.0 would "rest" Blair, Bo, Clint, Destiny, Jack, Jessica, Matthew, Natalie, Nora, Sam, Tea and Victor. (John, Starr, and Todd could remain permanently on GH.) Dorian and Viki would remain, of course, but I'd bring back Kevin and Joey, along with a slightly older Adriana who could become involved with the Buchanan boys. Then, to make things a little more interesting, I'd introduce a new, female character who could turn the whole thing into a quadrangle. That way, you could include non-core characters, such as Rama, as well as a few choice characters from years gone by.
Members ~bl~
They have around 18-19 regulars...that's a pretty standard cast number for a 30 minute show.
Members Khan
Further, in order to keep costs down, I'd use only a minimum number of sets: the Llanfair drawing room, the Banner offices, a new tavern, a new "fine dining" establishment, and Dorian's new penthouse apartment. If you have a character who is a doctor or a cop, I'd include the Llanview Hospital lobby/waiting area or the Llanview P.D. But I'd use those sparingly, because writers will need to contrive all sorts of excuses for why characters are always there.
Members EnglishTea
Part of the problem I have always had with B&B is that the cast has primarily been made up of three rotating families - Spectra and Logan with the Forrester in the middle, and it has lead to many incestuous like relationships. AMC and OLTL would have to be paired down significantly, which would make it hard to bring back past characters if you want many of those who were on the finale to be present. Additionally, just saying all the other characters can be recurring doesn't work. Recurring means that the actor isn't obligated to the show, and if something better comes along, they can simply say they are not available to work. The show would either than have to scramble for a re-cast or move around their schedule, which besides being difficult to do if the two shows share a studio, could be costly as pre/post tapes cost more money because of insert fees for the directors and the other actors affected by the shift.
