HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

And hey, this whole PP revival thing is just one big colossal joke anyway, right? So no harm, no foul. That said, I do encourage folks to make their way to the Cocktail Lounge and/or chat room.

Remember when I PM'd you and you didn't answer? Bitch

Then what do you consider her publicly rationalizing (I won't say "justifying" because I'm sure even SHE felt wronged by it) the Unabortion? That's my main issue. A woman who'd rather toe company line than speak up for a truly monumental story she DARED to create during a time it was hardly acceptable, doesn't seem to be the type of woman who'll STAND UP AND PREACH to the newcomers about what Soap Opera is supposed to be. I've never lost sight of Agnes' history. She's a woman who caves under a domineering presence. Let's not be fooled. She created All My Children, wrote the bible for it and presented it to P&G and they rejected it. After OLTL, ABC wanted her to write another one and she's gone on record several times deferring to her husband before presenting ABC with AMC. "Oh, do you really think it's good?" All I'm saying is that this woman has shown that she will submit her will to the dominant opinion of whatever the situation is. It happened after Pratt "met" with Agnes as well. He "met" with her, used that as the cliched line of approval to appease the press... and then had her banned from any further consultation. "We" didn't even find out about this until AMC's cancellation.

I said all that, to say this... Agnes will be Agnes. She'll possibly offer her suggestions and thoughts, but if the dominant opinion differs, I don't doubt for a second that she'll back down. This is where I see her failing to pick up the Irna Phillips torch that so many claim was passed down to her. The woman is too complacent. That's why McTavish was able to turn All My Children into Purgatory. That's why Pratt was able to turn All My Children into Melrose Place.

Well with Pratt, it sounds like there was no other way--Agnes apparently disagreed and was kicked out--what more could she do there? But, I do think your points are more than fair otherwise (even if I see it kinda differently--I get what you're saying).

Did Agnes ever release a specific statement about the unabortion? I can't remember one--but I wasn't online much then or following the soap press. I've heard Agnes is very brutal and strong with her opinion in story meetings, but it's also true that when people disagree (and she doesn't even have the authority of a HW--who can still be overuled--at the time) and go with it anyway, she definitely demures to the press and doesn't speak out against it--something Irna would have. I guess I see that as partly her just playing the game, and trying to stay a part of her show--and it sounds like (to me--and I admit we really know very little about this) that she will have more control at least at first with PP--but that doesn't disagree with your point....

You also find Kristen Alderson attractive so I'd expect no less.

Was he the one who talked about her angry red pen? That was pretty funny.

Yeah that was Patrick. And frankly it sounded kinda dumb--I dunno, if I was a script writer, I would expect the HW to change and correct my script (i'm sure all too often they don't).

Hmmm...I thought a picture?...nahhh

Why did he crash the party again? I completely forgot about that--or Carlivati's ANNOYING jokey titles for every episode they tried for a while ("Incest is best"! Really??? Great title for a show that has dealt with incest...)

I honestly do not believe that AN has been asked to be involved in this merely for PR reasons, I believe that they truly value her contribution. That said, once things get rolling, it's very easy for them to act as if her mere presence in the writers room or over Skype is her "blessing". Not necessarily so. Ultimately, folks are going to do what they want to do whether Miss Agnes likes it or not, particularly as the weeks go by and the creative staff starts smelling themselves in their fancy new positions. Agnes Nixon is a whiz when it comes to vivid characters, mot overly preachy social issues, and HEART. AMC's greatest gift was its heart, that heart carried it (and longterm, loyal viewers) through a lot of vapid rough patches. These are the sort of things that make her an invaluable consultant, imo.

Tell me this doesn't seduce every one of you. And normally I am NOT into gingers. But as far as soap women go, I've had a crush on MA for years.

I'm blonde (naturally, too--I highlight it, but no bleach!). How do you feel about those? :D
