Celebrities who loved soaps

So what celebrites do you guys know of that love soaps? I know Princess Diana and Elizabeth Taylor loved GH and Billy Currington loves GH. Reba McEntire was an All My Children fan and Julia Roberts loves DAYS. Wasn't Dolly Parton a One Life to Live fan or All My Children? I can't remember.

I'm watching Sanford and Son right now and Fred is bemoaning having his TV taken away because he won't be able to keep up with Mickey and Laura who just got divorced on Days of our Lives. :P I wonder if Redd was a soap fan because there were several references made to Fred watching his stories on S&S. I know he wasn't writing the scripts, but I wonder...

I was just about to post that! He mentioned Another World once I think.

Should we start a Fictional Characters Who Watch Soaps thread? :D

If so, Roseanne (the character) watched OLTL (along with Jackie) and GH, while Dan and Nancy watched GL!

Soaps were mentioned all the time by Fran on The Nanny. They even visited the Y&R set for an episode once (Dorothy Lyman guested as a director in that episode).

Yes!

The episode with Stephen Nichols where they watched DAYS ("It hasn't been the same since Shane left!"), and Dorothy Lyman herself directed MANY episodes of the show.

Jimmy Carter's mom Miss Lillian was a big AMC fan and met with Ruth Warrick at some stage.

OH MY GOD I betcha that meeting was legendary.

Also watching S&S. Also was going to mention Redd and wonder if he watched any stories (probably did!).

IIRC, Vicki Lawrence was/is a fan of B&B.

Apparently Rock Hudson was a DAYS fan, with Kristian Alfonso, who had once done a TV movie with him prior to becoming Hope, going to reintroduce herself later on when she saw him somewhere. The first thing he said was, "When are you going to marry Bo?" laugh.png

They also made at least two All My Children references during the series. The one that I remember at the moment was when Fran was going to the Paramus Mall to see the cast of AMC and Nigel excitingly asks if Erica Kane will be there. Paramus Mall is an infamous spot for soap star appearances. They even reference it in Soapdish.

I'm sure Rock needed to know so he could have his dress back from the cleaners in time. ;)

And of course AMC along with Carol. Oop, I think that was already mentioned.

Just got my OLTL Trivia book out of my closet. I thought it was lost at first! Here's more celebrity OLTL fans:

Lena Horne

Liza Minnelli

David Sedaris

Luther Vandross

Richard Burton

And in case anyone was wondering: Roseanne named Lanford after Llanview! :)

You'd think living in the public eye with Liz Taylor would be more than enough soap opera for Dick Burton.

It's hilarious to think about. According to the book, he apparently would watch whenever he was in New York, because it didn't air in England.

"(Insert celebrity) was a huge fan of the daytime soap opera Capitol" read no interview ever. :(

I used to think Tammy Wynette was a fan and that's how she got on the show but I think they approached her.

Michael Reagan, Ronald and Jane Wyman's son, appeared on Capitol but I don't think his parents were fans of the show beyond tuning in to see their son.
