Brett Easton Ellis and Paul Shrader make thriller staring Lohan and male porn star

A month or two back, Brett Easton Ellis tweeted how his new film noir script, The Canyons, he's trying to get made (with no less than Paul Schrader as director) would star porn star James Deen and was looking for funding via Kickstarter... Now he's tweeting that Lindsay Lohan will costar, and filming starts in July!

I'm not sure what to make of this, but I have to say that random foursome involved in one film does have me intrigued...

And apparently in Ellis' campaign to make the movie version of 50 Shades of Grey he sees Ian Somerhalder as the male lead, which I admit would be one of the few ways to get me to pay to see that movie... (at least that's what his tweets seem to say when he'snot busy reporting on his boyfriend who is refered to endlessly as "the 25 year old"). But I'm not sure about Lena Dunham playing opposite Ian--hasn't she had enough humiliating on screen sex?

(Oh and now that he wants to get back into music again, I nominate Giorgio Moroder doing one of his classic dark synth/somewhat porno scores for The Canyons, to fully bring back the glory of his work on Schrader's American Gigolo and Cat People)

Deen is a real throwback to the days of everyday guys with natural bodies who were also handsome and charismatic, like Eric Edwards (who should have had a mainstream career). He's a real anomaly in the world of porn. Of course porn is so much rougher these days...so I am not sure how likely anyone is to truly cross over. But the lines between porn and the average image you see in a movie or TV show have blurred so much, and the lack of big attention-getting stars might mean that someone who works in porn but who has talent beyond basic anatomy can make a career for themselves outside porn, if they get the chance.

(Apparently Deen does have a larger than average female fanbase ragradless, http://observer.com/2012/03/the-boyfriend-experience-bret-easton-ellis-porn-star-james-deen-the-canynons-03072012/ )

(Agreed Jack, it's all bizarre).

Ellis has already been praising Deen, but I get what you're saying Carl (though I've seen very little of his work). Porn and the mainstream are definitely blurring more and more, and I see it soon becoming far less of an issue for a crossover, at least in R/NC17 movies, although Deen is also known for his very rough porn, as you say which might make it harder.

A lot of Deen's stuff involves - or involved, I don't know, I'm going on an interview from a year or two ago - punishing women. This always has a following (with a lot of men and a lot of women), and I guess his boy next door image is a contrast to that. Maybe they can give him a show on FX...

I guess a lot of women are just happy to see something they can relate to, or they feel is catered to them, since the prevailing media view of women in bondage seems to be anonymonous women in tight leather who hate themselves and are damned.

The ad for the movie is kind of bad. It's not The Hills? Hello 2006.

Bret Easton Ellis is my favourite modern author so anything he does I'm going to be watching. And James Deen? wub.png

And Ian Somerhalder, who has previously worked with Bret on The Rules of Attraction, where I first fell in love with his sexy, would actually make me see whatever movie they can muster from that horrible "book."

Haven't we all?

Oh, Lindsay. You had so much potential. Now, all I want to do is bring you to my bosom like it's "The Member of the Wedding" and I'm Ethel Waters.

Who is LD?

I see Lindsay Lohan is inching ever closer to that career in hardcore porn I predicted for her over 5 years ago.

I wish I could say she's a [!@#$%^&*] up because of the drugs -- sadly I think it is her entitled attitude and need for a fame at all costs which has brought her to this.

And I would watch Ian Somerhalder in anything -- even 50 Shades of Grey.

    • LOL - literally just added an edit to my post, because as I'm watching live right now, Dahlia is swimming in the pool alone and there is Marcus.  So annoying. And Phillip just revealed himself to Rick. I have to stop watching now, but curious to see how those interactions go!
    •   LOL.  I realized this week's Lope montage also omitted the Paris remote Lope scenes with Kim Matula. I mean, they repeat stuff over and over and over. I have unintentionally memorized B&B scenes that I barely watched --- because it was repeated in dialogue and immediate flashbacks in following episodes over and over and over.  Yet somehow Brad thinks viewers (even casual views like myself) wouldn't notice the glaring omissions in the montage?  or as dragonflies said, the montage using Lope scenes that happened during the Steam marriage?
    • Well, you wont be happy at all because I think Marcus of all people shows up..you know they have to have a scene were Dahlia is swimming and Marcus joins her..despite the fact that he is a decade older then her. You could tell they were trying to make them the next big thing but then, just dropped it.  The whole wedding was also one of the reason McLaibey was so short term.
    • I would have bought it if Ed/Rick/Michelle were all there, but 1) Ed said he couldn't go because he had to work, to which even someone highlighted that he's chief of staff and could easily go if he wanted; 2) Michelle got on the plane with Rick to go, but J showed up and the Spaulding's kicked him off because why would they want another random teenager to go, so Michelle ran off the plane after him and Rick just let her go (haha, it was kind of dumb); and 3) Rick and A-M have barely said 2 words to each other in the 15 months I've been watching so far, so it was weird he's now just by himself with the Spauldings/Coopers.   But I know now why they're doing this, Rick is clearly there because Phillip has shown up. Very plot-driven, but at least I’m getting old flashbacks of Rick/Phillip during this.  Slight correction - Ed never showed up on the plane, just Rick and Michelle.  Ed had already made the decision he wasn't going. Once 'Slutchelle' (haha!) ran off, I thought it was so weird that Rick either didn't run off after her, or didn't call from the plane to tell Ed. It was only when Blake called Rick, who happened to be with Ed at the hospital, that he happened to tell Ed, in midair, "oh hey, you may want to go find Michelle, she ran off" hahaha. Yeah, I get that being a location shoot, they had to minimize the number of people, but to have Dahlia there over Bridget still irks me. I get it, at this point, Bridget wouldn't have any connections to any of the people there outside of Lucy, just still hurts. ETA: Ugh, and now Marcus shows up!
    • Maybe Brad can turn that day into an entire season.
    • I didn't get to finish the episode last night. It's been a week and I was not able to keep my eyes open.  I will say that I understand everyone's comments on the new Ted. I think more so than anything is the shock. Where else in modern TV do you get an actor to replace another from one day to the next without a break or some storyline to explain it. However, it's such a soap staple that I can't help but love it when I heard "The role of...is now being played by..."  I think the actor is good. I felt like Kat felt different playing against him. I wonder if it was nerves or just maybe this actor bringing something difgerent out of Colby. I do think Maurice's acting range showed itself to be weak when he got these more emotionally charged scenes to play. I actually clocked him as one of the weaker actors from Day 1, but he definitely wasn't the worst and I didn't think he needed to be replaced. However, I'm open to new Ted. Maybe Maurice can come back as Andre's daddy back from the "dead."  Ashley is really becoming unlikable with her attitude towards living with Derek. Although, she should have shut him down the minute he imposed the idea on her. Also, if I'm living with someone and I have a guest coming over soon which I forgot to mention to that person than they are more than welcome to stay. Especially, if that person is someone we both know. They'll just be made aware that next time I'm going to need them to leave for a few while when I have time with a friend. It was so rude the way she approached it, which makes it even more confusing as to why all the characters around her put her on a pedestal and Andre is obsessed.  I honestly don't see any chemistry between Andre and Ashley. Andre gets on my nerves. I'm sorry yall, but I can't with that man. He always gotta let out a huff in that last syllable when he's saying something emotional. It's like okay now Big Bad Wolf. Also, what is the appeal of Ashley? She's boring. The character is bland. I do feel for the Ashley and Derek actors because what are they even doing there...taking up space.
    • Liam hasn't had a purpose in years, none of the Spencer's have. The Spencer family should be written off and let Finn adopt Kelly, he's more her dad anyways.  IMO I think SC seen the writing on the wall with Liam. Brad is never going to let the character grow or evolve. Even dying he's being wishy washy and a waffler lol. Scott out there asking for Liam to be a villain and paired with Ivy only for Liam to continue to waffle I'd rather see Scott back at GH as Dillon or Michael Quartermaine   But I dunno I read Scott has issues with Frank that stem from his time on One Life to Live Also all the Lope flashbacks where when Liam was married to Steffy and one of them was when Hope was telling Liam she was pregnant(he was married to Steffy then) lol I need Steffy out of that white blazer, please burn it, it's awful. This day has gone on for like 3 weeks now. ONE DAY
    • Thanks! I never venture back to re-watch that period of the show
    • I was wondering about Liam wearing that hat for such a long time, as it was supposed to be covering up his surgery wound -- but he wouldn't need a hat for this long a period of time. Then I noticed everyone's wardrobe is the same, too, and realized that it's been the same "Forrester/Logan day" for two weeks of episodes. I guess he just got out of the hospital and all these episodes are discussing what happened?
    • I would have to say FD was the luckiest man in daytime who stayed way past any reason for him to be there, but yes, totally agree that Alan should have died at that point, which would have spared us more years on mustache twirling bombasity.   I know it was a big get to bring Joan Collins on, and I loved her Alex, but it would have been great at that point if they had just brought Amanda back. Phillip is named by Alan and Alex as the successor or head of family and head of the corporation, with the board and investors approval. Amanda (who is back to being Alan's daughter, it was one last "screw you" from Brandon to try to get Alan and Alex at each others throats) gets pissed and comes back to stake her claim and be a thorn in everyone's side. Meanwhile Liv is suddenly REALLY interested in Phillip as he will have a longer self life then Alan. Things unfold much as they did with Amanda coming back to thwart Liv as Alex did..and when the truth comes out Alan really does have a heart attack and kicks (for real, for good, no fake outs, no returns, he's dead..dead.) and then AM comes back (as Taggert originally planned before Weston came to stink up the place.) to make his claim also. Phillip' guilt over Alan's death and having no final reconciliation ( On his death bed Alan could say, "I am proud of you son, you have finally become a real Spaulding," right before he kicks. ) I also agree that Phillip was not always likable, which really I give GA credit for being brave enough to make him that way, which is exactly how Phillip should be.   Ed and Chelle were there, but she ran off the plane to chase J...(I kid you not, that is why we started calling her Slutchelle) and Ed ran after her. The reason they, and no one else was at the wedding was obviously to save money, so it would have made more sense to have it on an existing set then that dumb Universal Studios thing.
