News people have become so fake that it's hard to tell when they're genuinely reacting - a great example of that sincere pain is the much seen clip of Walter Cronkite's reaction to JFK's death.

Good lord, what is that bizarre movie in the intro. It sounds....hilariously bad. Anyone recall? XD

I had never heard of that movie before, though it looks awful.

A lot of anchors today show too much emotion. Everyone knew Cronkite's reaction was sincere because he rarely showed emotion.

Up to the Minute, LMAD, and Big Brother are the only CBS shows currently not shown in HD.

Aside from the current incarnation of CBS This Morning, the Smith/Zahn version of the program was the best morning show CBS ever had. However, its opening was quite cheesy:

Carl, I love that clip that you just posted. (It's really cool how it cut into what seemed to be an oldies collection infomercial.) John Glenn's campaign really fizzled badly. He was the Elizabeth Dole/Wesley Clark/Fred Thompson/Tim Pawlenty of 1984.

This is really sad, but it is horrible how the Iowa caucuses are now held shortly after New Year's Day. They should be held (as they were back then) in February.

^Here is a great one from the Soviet Union in the 80s. LOVE the music. I think the same music is still being used in Russia.

This is from WISH-TV Indianapolis in December 1992. I was only 3 at the time (and we moved from IN to MD the following year), but I do have very fond memories of that Christmas season. I had an old tape with a bunch of Christmas specials/ cartoons from that year, and there was a promo for the 11:00 news. Unfortunately, I put it in a faulty VCR years ago, so I may never be able to see it again sad.png .

The anchors are Debby Knox and Mike Ahern--Mike retired from the station in 2004 (after having been there since 1967), but Debby still does the news there to this day.

This is before I got to MD (the year I was born, actually), but WUSA had this open (the "Death Star" opening) for quite a long time.

MissLlanviewPA, while local news headlines/intros are most welcome in this thread, I feel badly that I usurped your own thread on that topic. Please note that this was never my intention, as I created this thread to focus on national news history (which wouldn't have fit into your thread). I am sincerely sorry if I have offended you.
