And unsurprisingly, the key location segments were apparently directed by... Shelley Curtis.

I didn't know that, or I don't remember it, but I'm not surprised. GH might've been the #1 show during the '80's, but for my money, DAYS was better produced. Their remote/action sequences are still things of beauty.

This reminds me of the Greece remote for DAYS, and Genie Francis telling the story about the cast and location crew getting to their lodging and it was a boat with a hose for washing and cots. And she was like absolutely not, marched her way up to town and found several rooms, and paid for them with her own credit card. I do agree that DAYS and GH did them better than everybody else.

Judi shared a poignant story about that wedding with Justin and Adrienne, and how Genie told her to make sure she had something to do after the scenes were done. Because you go through all that heightened emotion and then it can be very lonely afterwards if you just go home at the end of that day to nothing. I know Francis has spoken about it many times, but damn that time in her life must have been very hard and lonely.

The New Years Eve 1984 GH episode was in my for you YouTube, so I watched it and it was pretty interesting. Sean is just beginning his scheme with the Quartermaines, and Frisco is temporarily being played by Kevin Bernhardt, who will later be back as Kevin O’Connor during the Laurelton Murders storyline. IIRC Jack Wagner said this temp was Gloria Monty leveraging him to stay on the show or behave or some kind of punishment and he took it seriously.

Did DL Brock’s abuse cause Bobbie to not be able to have children? Did the show address exactly why? I can’t remember.

While doing google research on DL Brock and learning that he was, in fact, the reason Bobbie cannot have children, I stumbled upon an SOD interview with Jackie, and this section really stood out to me.

CARLY TRIES TO DESTROY BOBBIE’S LIFE, 1996-98  Let’s talk about the introduction of Carly. Did you know from the beginning they were giving Bobbie a daughter? “You know what, this is going to be really funny. Bob Guza, who was writing at the time, we went one day to lunch at this Italian place, the only time we went to lunch, and he said, ‘I’m going to do “married to the mob” with you. I’m going to write that storyline.’ And I’m like, ‘Ooh, that’s great.’ I think, I don’t know, but I always [assumed], that when he went to the network and told them, they said, ‘You know what, Jackie’s getting older. Let’s bring in a daughter and we’ll do “married to the mob” with the daughter.’ Bob Guza never called me to say, ‘Change of plans.’ But all of a sudden, Carly’s appearing.

I think she is wrong. I don’t think she aged out, I think that married to the mob storyline was supposed to be her marriage to Stefan, it was going to be inspired by a married to the mob idea. And now I am even more upset with how that turned out.

We could have had a very complex story with Bobbie where she is drawn to the power and it corrupts her a little bit. She found the stability she craved with Tony but it wasn’t enough. Now as a Cassadine she has the kind of status that the Quartermaines have, even if it ends up being hollow. It causes friction with not just Luke, but the hospital staff and Edward because her husband is on the board, maybe even her eventually. This would have been a fabulous story for Bobbie.

I am inclined to agree re: Stefan and Bobbie. Which I need to rewatch more of. I just loved them.

And yes @carolineg they loved to have Maurice walk back and forth on that stretch of lawn to Rivera's house lol. As a big ad for that hotel the whole thing worked! They did also go to some tourism sites or ancient ruins or whatever with Lily and Miguel earlier during the Juan stuff, but that was all pretty tedious despite the wonderful location spots.

I think Monty even went to the press talking about how amazing Kevin was. She didn't play around.

I think Bobbie fell down or was pushed down the stairs.

I credit GH for never magically letting Bobbie carry a child, which is something soaps often love to do. So many stories, from Lucas to Carly, would have been less likely to happen, stories that changed the show in ways few at the time could have imagined.

On Shortland Street, they had a story a few years ago about a woman who had a very unhappy childhood and never wanted to be a mother. She had a tubal ligation to make sure she couldn't get pregnant. Then this year, she found out that the ligation had somehow been breached and she was pregnant. After a brief moment of anger and considering an abortion, she magically decided that it was meant to be.

I always found Patch kind of cheesy and had no idea SN had that in him. But that first coupe of years he had fire chemistry with Laura, Bobbie, Alexis, Helena and truthfully, Tony Geary. He was so good as Stefan. Even though it didn’t work out, he also had some chemistry with Marybeth’s Katherine. Not as much as with her Kayla, but it was there.

That’s what I read, he pushed her down the stairs. I’m going to try to find the episode.

Was that before or after D.L. pushed an elderly woman in front of a speeding bus and strangled her puppy with his bare hands? (I'm kidding.)

Lol! Because I watched this in Sonny/Brenda edits its Sonny walking there, wondering why Brenda is so stupid, walking back, still wondering why Brenda gets him into trouble, walking back again, contemplating all his life choices, and walking back again. It's feels like an hour of him walking across the lawn before he even rescues her.

I mean, I'd stay at that hotel so it worked. And, yes, I remember some of the Lily/Miguel scenes were in beautiful locations.

As far as Bobbie, I don't think she aged out back then either. Even after Stefan, a great pairing, she was pretty hot and heavy with pre-crazy Jerry Jax.

It’s funny because he seemed like an asshat to me in stuff I have seen before he turns into a screaming maniac. Like nobody could tell this guy was awful from the jump?

Listen, if he could fool Rhoda and her family....!

Tony, JJ and Kin on the View, discussing the '98 rape revisit and other things. Some fun old chestnuts about the L&L wedding and Scott and Luke's fistfight, etc.

Considering how nasty Luke and Bobbie's childhoods and teen years were it's totally believable that she would be obsessed with power. I wouldn't want to see that explored through the sham marriage to Stefan though. Matter of fact now that I think about it an argument could be made the Spencers obsess over power just as much as the Cassadines but Spencers aren't as bougie about it.

Thank you for giving Stefan and Katherine their just dues as a couple. The show should've kept that going. The show didn't write themselves into a corner like they thought when it comes to Katherine's amnesia and Helena being her overlord. There was a way to fix that instead of killing her.

I watched the 1984 New Year's episode too. Dang, the Quatermaine mansion sets looked so cramped and claustrophobic! I felt sorry for all the actors, dressed to the nines yet having no space to move around, with almost every other actor on top of each other!

Having seen the Christmas Eve show from 1987, I think the show was in a better spot in 1984. In 84, Bobbie and Felicia had more to do, Monica was more sarcastic, Sean was more interesting, Robert wasn't moping around, with Holly still there. The show seem to have more energy. 1987 did have Lucy though. Alan and Edward seemed pretty much the same in both shows.

The 1984 episode ended strangely, with a newly created flashback where they bring back Robert's original WSB partner O'Reilly and show Sean sending them on the Cassadine mission that brought Robert to the show. I think they brought back the original actress from 3 years before. For them to go to all the trouble, and expect the audience to know what they were referring to; I guess they had a little more respect for long time viewers back then?

Anyone know of rough dates re: Bobbie and Tony getting together? I know their wedding was in fall of '89 or something. Always wanted to see more of that courtship.

I have also always hoped to watch more of the Sean/Monica story where she gets roped into his scheme. I am amazed she bounced back from that with the family. I've seen bits and pieces here and there. BTW, how long was Tiffany gone between stints and when did she first become involved with Sean?
