That speeding ambulance and original theme is still way more exciting than any opening they have had since.  And I loved Faces of the Heart.  But the old open was just more exciting.  And easy to make a quick version.

They should have just updated that one in recent years.  Modern instrumentation, an ambulance with sirens going, a shot of the hospital and logo, and quick cut to black and back into the show.  Maybe 15 to 20 seconds and pumped with energy.

Although it would be leading in to a show that is often lacking in energy.

I totally agree.  As a matter of fact, when I watch whole episodes from before FOTH but during Riche, it does seem kind of strange.  It was certainly perfect for what Labine’s team was writing once they arrived.

She and ABC did a fantastic job with that intro.  Retaining the ambulance, the opening notes.  Even the added patches didn’t show for a long time.  I especially will always love Lucy’s eyebrow raising, Luke & Laura’s section, the medical scene at the beginning, Puerto Rico, and of course the ending with Felicia’s changing hairstyles followed by Mac’s never changing shot/turtleneck.

I remember thinking when Frank and Ron’s intro started why didn’t they just go back to the ambulance and hospital and OG theme?  And the one they use now is just amateurish beyond belief.

Also agree. Just like Y&R's red opening from 99, and AMC's 90-94 intro, saxaphone screams nineties, and FOTH was a great fit. I prefer beauty shot intros, but since today's GH is sticking with a short opener, it would have been cool to do a remastered Autumn Breeze intro.

I second that watching Riche episodes with autumn breeze felt odd, considering the way the show was at that point. I always thought of the Riche era coming into its own and taking shape once that opener started on the 30th anniversary show.

The ending will always choke me up. Something I'd never considered until recently ... was having Steve/John proudly exit the hospital/studio by himself meant as a response to Santa Barbara's last moments, with Rauch putting out his cigar on the floor?

According to Laura Wright on today's GH, the show will start doing 'flashback fridays' (due to coronavirus stalling production). Today's was a rerun from the shows 56th anniversary last year

. If they start airing actual classics it would cool to see:

-Lassa fever, AJ's birth (as it relates to Michael & Nelle), Alan dropping the roof on Rick & Monica, Faison & Ana from the early 90s (current crap storylines), or Alan and Susan (as it relates to FrankenDrew) .

Certainly they were preferable to the gangsters, murderers, and abusers who invaded the show in the late ‘90s, but one thing that annoyed me about Labine-era GH were the sanctimonious, stuffy, condescending men usually tasked with taming a free-spirited woman (Mac, Ned, Kevin). I just watched the FOTH theme in the thread about soap openings, and it brought all that back.

Over the past few weeks, I've been amusing myself reading the summaries from 1981 onward. I'm up to June 1989. Rewinding back to 1983, what do we think of Jackie being such a woman scorned over Robert & Holly getting together? I'm team Holly, but it seems like if the show wanted to keep Demi (or she wanted to stay), she'd have been aces as a first class villainess.

I liked Jackie until this point. She became insufferable. Like gurl Robert isn't the only dude in the world. Jackie was pissed at Robbie for over a year until she left PC. It's a shame i liked the friendship and team work. Between Luke, Robert and Jackie during the awful Tale of Two Laura's/David Gray saga. During her last year she barely interacted with Luke. When she did interact with Robert. She was icy cold towards him. @Franko Do you know if Jackie ever had a last episode? Or did she simply disappear? Like Bryan and Claudia did in 1987.

    • Best episode of "BTG" since its premiere. I thought it was Andre.
    • It has taken a goddamn year but they finally got Gio shirtless.
    • Who's door did Eva pop up at? It looked like Ted.
    • Today I fully appreciate Rocco - for the first time! "In case you can't tell, we're freshmen." He has got it going on in that brain of his! Yeah, but I've been having trouble with Brook Lynn, I guess, for 2 weeks now.  God bless Tracy Angelica Quartermaine! How can that woman, seemingly so rigid, so dug-in, turn on a dime the way she just did?!!! Of course, Danny is way glib for his age! "My brother is an Introverted Extrovert." Hilarious! And, the thing that shocked me, and really just rocked me back ... Dante has been IN LOVE with Lulu this whole time. He never stopped being in love with her!!! No, I did not see that coming.  Kudos to the GH Team today!!
    • Great script Great scenes Tracy BLQ Lulu and Dante were Great Poor Rocco. Be ok Damn Gio and Vaughn are hot as hell Not liking BLQ demanding Maxie pick between her and Lulu
    • With the ending of today's great episode, Leslie has to have the biggest donkey dick of courage I've ever seen.
    • The answer I was looking for is "he is Elvis Aron Banks Jr. " which is what I thought was the case but I was too unsure to say so!!!! Thanks, as always. I mean, there is NO Elvis Aron Banks Sr. so there was no real need for Susan to make him a Junior!!!  But, she seems to have her own way of doing, just about everything, which is okay.

date: Friday, May 2 | Teresa Zimmerman, Judy Tate | Steven Williford The drama-rama is drama'ing! This is juicier than the freshest of fresh peaches picked right from its home. Deadbeat, finally able to get his frustrations out physically on someone; instead of it being Bradley, it's Dana. I love the unraveling of Dana's names (Leslie, Sherry, Anna, et al.). It's juicy. And look at Dr Carlton, chiming in. I love the way Anita and Dani fled to Nicole's side, and then Vernon trying to excuse everyone but "immediate family" (and I am sure Mona as well) from the room. Dana is coming undone. She really is. Her numerous ways of pronouncing "Teddy" to everyone. Oh, Nicole's collapse into a furious Anita hearing "lover" coming from Dana's mouth. BILL KNOWS SOMETHING! His all-too-casual non-denial shows he knew about something concerning the affair, and of course the child bride wants to know what it is. Love that Shanice visited Vanessa; I wonder what kind of friendship they may actually have. Well, now we know Bill's involvement, AND the bombshell has been dropped: Eva is [supposedly] Ted's daughter he thought Dana aborted. "Smarty Marty". Whew. Good name for Deadbeat. I appreciate Dani's anger and hurt being focused into anger and love for Nicole. Dana swishing her way out of the main part of the country club to her closet was everything. A soap villain sashaying her way from the havoc she's wrecked. I appreciate that both Anita and Vernon are assuring Mona is not to blame in this. She's an innocent in this. But her looks to Eva? Those could cut like a butter knife. Douglas knows Vanessa has cheated and is continuing to cheat. ARE WE ABOUT TO GET KATHERINE VERSUS TED?! Oh, this is going to be even juicier than I could have ever asked for. CAN PEOPLE STOP SITTING ON TABLES! IT'S SO ANNOYING! Dana's little daydream of talking to Nicole was everything; that's the "crazy" (a.k.a., mental illness). Billy boy, it's time for your turn in the hot seat. Stop rubbing toes and get your ass to the main house. Not Dana showing up at the Dupree home. Oh, what does she have planned next?! Whew... chile. General notes: Trisha Mann-Grant (Dana) gave an empowered performance in today's episode. She commanded the set that day. This is an Emmy-worthy supporting performance. Ambyr Michelle (Eva) is one that has really shown in the past few episodes; she's another young star in the making. She embodies Eva in every single sense. She brings the scripts to life through her craft. Maurice Johnson (Ted) brought nothing. I'm not surprised he was recast at this point. Keith D. Robinson would have rocked these scenes and actually presented something to the table.
