I wonder if AMC will be on at all?? I mean really why are they taking so long.? Days has already taped their January stuff to air. AMC should be taping now.....for January airdate online.

Exactly. I really don't get this aspect of fan entitlement (and to be fair I don't think Alexisfan meant anything that extreme). Rembrandt could come back from the dead and devote his life and career to doing endless portraits of Zendall and I wouldn't start complaining that dozens of other soap characters are more worthy--I wouldn't buy it either but who said you have to.

Umm you've wondered that before--as has Jamey and others. I dunno--OLTL isn't taping online stuff now,a nd I doubt will anytime soon either. I don't think that's really the issue--obviously there's a lot of stuff going ona nd I doubt January as well. That said, didn't they basically say originally they would start taping late November?

Oh, I was :) LOL And I shouldn't be, as it's other posters who seem to reply every other day as if they hadn't said it on here before "well now I think this will never happen for sure", etc etc.

To be fair tmany soaps have done fine int he past taping a month or so ahead (DAYS is of course a huge exception with how far in advance they tape, something some actors have complained makes it hard to work on and know where they are character wise), and back int he day the tape schedule was 2 weeks ahead. But I think it would be pretty hard for them to tape with that short an advance time when just starting out on a new platform. But who knows--maybe they won't happen till the Summer, or at all, or maybe in 3 weeks they'll make one big official announcement and be all ready to start.

This is where I feel like people will think I'm just being bitchy because I'm more of an AMC fan than OLTL, but... Aside from the (very important) fact that FV and RC are on board at OLTL, I don't see OLTL cast wise in any real better space than AMC is to start immediately. I am curious about OLTL though--with 10 weeks or so left we knew about AMC's ending, and I believe already knew it was being tweaked for PP. Will OLTL have a network ending (I feel they should have some sort of semi end point anyway)? Has anythign leaked?

Why would they do a press release for just one person? I don't see the need to do any at all really. What show makes a huge announcement everytime they cast someone for a new show? Basically this is new, and a big press release for one person just seems stupid. I could see if it was DW and a few others.

I'm not sure I understand why the unions have so much say. If the actors want to make a contract with PP, isn't that between the actor and PP? I think part of the problem is that online is so new for the business, but perhaps the unions should let the actors make whatever contract they want with PP and catch up as they learn more.

I assume then that you've never worked with an actor's union ;) (Admittedly I personally only know SAG stuff, for theatre, but it can be very convulated and you don't want to get on the bad side).

I see it differently.I doubt they would have done a press announcement for one potential hire especiallya s they don't seem to know ANYTHING else definite, and they're probably glad (maybe even encourage) actors tweeting out bits of info to try to keep fans interested in the meanwhile.

Global rule numero uno, a union actor cannot accept non-union work. The Internet revolution was nice and grey for a hot minute, but you see how the unions have pounced on web series and the like.

Frankly, I think AMC has a stronger stable of characters that mean more to the show at this juncture than many of the hit or miss characters you have over at One Life. I think that's actually a boon for One Life because they'll have a much easier time pressing on with or without many current cast members as they have a penchant for churning out variations of the same types. Like them or not, Erica, Jack, Kendall, Bianca, Greenlee, Ryan, Tad, Jesse, Angie, Opal, et cetera, these are all classic/modern classic AMC characters. Losing a number of them is indeed a significant thing to deal with for PP, they have some restructuring to do if some of them won't continue. I'm not saying that it CAN'T be done, it of course can. I just maintain that it's easier to replace several characters on One Life who have worked the front burner in recent times.

    • I totally agree with this, as most of you seem to. Mary Carney was at least competent and reasonably likable; I just feel like she barely had anything of substance to do before she was abruptly given the hook. And I get the backstory of Kathleen Tolan having done a play with Helen Gallagher, but...at any point did they ever actually READ her before they greenlit her? Because...OOF. First time I saw her on SoapNet was right when this GODAWFUL actress named Charity Rahmer played Belle on Days of Our Lives for all of three weeks before she was mercifully recast; her line readings were straight out of a Charlie Brown special. I remember thinking Kathleen Tolan could have played her mother! In the Frank/Jill/Delia triangle, Delia WAS the one who was cheated on, so I got why she was upset and thought it was perfectly valid in theory at least, but of course it was blown up to Wagnerian proportions including falls involving staircases and tricycles. But with Pat/Faith/Delia I had no sympathy for her...especially because it was mainly with Catherine Hicks's Faith and I really liked her.
    • I was going through those episodes from 1984 and early 1985 before they were taken down. Some of the older characters, like Don and even Tom, looked a little out of place, like they were on the wrong show. But the newer characters were fun. It's too bad they lost the character of Melissa. I guess Jennifer took her long-term place on the canvas.

    • The black and white episodes of the show are very special. An atmosphere the color run loses. Dark Shadows was filmed live-on-tape. They could do a retake but it would be very expensive. I think there was a claim that if actors wanted a retake they would curse. There was also a rumor that at one point Joan Bennett accidentally said "Hollywood" instead of "Collinwood" and that necessitated a retake.

    • It is a shame that more characters didn't go the ATWT-Barbara route and make the ingénue into an antagonist. Sort of like they did with Liza/Hogan/Sunny, less successfully. It is a credit to ATWT's creativity that breathed life in that character for years after she was fighting off bulls in Spain.  But, a character like Liza can only have so many true loves and high jinks on the high seas.  They need another reason to be in the story. Liza's wealth, as well as her acumen to see through fraud, was fertile ground for tons of stories.  But, I feel like the business stories for Liza were always about her being easily overwhelmed, rather than exploring things like her leadership and managerial skills.
    • STFU!! Dante!!! This nonsense of blaming Gio is just ridiculous! Alexis and Lucky are becoming so unlikable. Why are the writers writing these characters so poorly?
    • Keith still comes off younger to me. I thought he wasn't that bad for his first day.
    • To be fair, they were only recently step-siblings.  Their parents married within the past few years.  And, Draper's father Ansel was not coy about the fact that he married Raven's mother, Nadine, for the money. And, Raven's sort of sticking it to April that not only can she have a baby (April has a heart condition that makes it difficult for her to carry a child to term), she could also have April's man, if she wanted him.
