The reason they potentially can't keep that team is because Ron Carlivati is still under contract to ABC for another year and up to now, ABC has refused to release him.

I wouldn't mind seeing either of them co-HW with someone else but I'd also like someone new. Lorraine has also HW for OLTL before, though IMO not with spectacular results - but who could work magic with Chris Whitesell?

The LB with Chris Whitesell team up was just kinda bizarre, on paper and in practice. Especially since Tomlinw as the producer and his style of camp and soap fit Whitesell much more.

I'd like to see some new blood co-HW too, but I really wish and hope LB stays at AMC as we were told at least for the first little while. She's had more than her share of flops, but the past 5+ years the best AMC has been under her.

AMC Could Just Promote Addie To HW. She has a long history with the show & Daytime soaps in general

http://en.wikipedia....iki/Addie_Walsh

I liked Addie's brief (a year?) period on Loving, and I used to want her to HW AMC, but I also get the feeling she doesn't want to be a HW. (She has been heavily involved in the current show though, right? which is why her name is under Broderick's on the first title screen and a number of actors mentioned the great work "Agnes, Lorraine and Addie" was doing.

I don't think Addie Walsh wants to be HW or it would have happened at one of the 98 times they changed headwriters while she was there.

I still cannot understand how this LB move makes any sense...unless both magazines screwed up and she is going to GH, not OLTL, because ABC is holding her to her contract.

We never heard how long LB's contract was for--when she was hired two weeks before the cancelation came out--which I found odd as they made a big deal about RC having a (I believe) 3 year contract.

I'm with Jane on this--it seems that PP are too unsure of how to do soaps to hire outside of the box, though i hope this changes, so I'd much rather they keep LB (and it seems Agnes is setting out to be as involved as possible and obviously she likes working with her) than someone from the soap vaults.

<rhetorical>So is ABC is going to pay RC the same amount of (HW) money to be a scriptwriter for the de facto canceled GH? He's under contract so they have to pay him the same salary right? If so, how is that more cost effective than just cutting him loose to go to PP? Would letting him out of his contract cost ABC? Because it would seem to me that PP would have to bear that financial burden. He can keep OLTL successful on PP which will still make ABC a profit because of the licensing agreement.

PP was obviously able to get FV who is supposedly a financial genius and would therefore be more valuable to ABC so why is RC some kind of prize? </rhetorical>

My theory on FV is that he was moving to GH and ABC in the meantime decided that GH is officially gone as of whatever date so they wont need to use him there. So they are letting him go. Either that or *gulp* Frons has some sort of arrangement with PP and is going to end up there as FVs boss.

I think if ABC lets RC go there is no guarantee he will goto PP. Since he is allegedly the new hot writer its possible B&B or Y&R would offer him a gig. He'd actually probably fit in well over with Bradley Bell.

Why would PP be able to get FV but not RC, isn't FV under contract as well for ABC like RC is?

This means nothing but didn't we hear RC got a 3 year contract, but never the specifics of FVs?

The issue is PP has already shown an inability to think and look outside the box.

Sadly I see no signs of PP showing any investment in revitalizing AMC and OLTL for the long haul.

I've long suspected PP really just wants AMC and OLTL's built-in audiences drawn to their platform to watch their 2 new soaps in development. It's those 2 soaps that are getting built for the long-haul I bet.

Did they say they were planning 2 brand new soaps? I dunno, I can't see a lot of the longterm fans moving over, especially if they were mad about ABC canceling their shows would they show more loyalty to new shows at PP?

LB and Whitesell gave RC a run for their money on rewriting OLTL history and relationships. They were responsible for that atrocious, character destroying Jessica is Mitch's daughter stunt. They could have introduced Natalie without that rewrite.

ABC letting FV go and keeping the status quo at GH is a sure sign to me they have quit trying to save that soap. The GH actors taking to twitter begging fans to tune back in, is another sign they are hearing ABC has given up on them.

I am baffled though by ABC refusing to let RC go. That IS odd.

I thought they both signed for 3 years. Wasn't that part of the "proof" that ABC was invested in OLTL?

ETA: Yup. Here we go. But apparently FV only signed for two years.

One Life to Live Gets a Jolt of Life With New Producer Deal

Maybe this will help put those pesky cancellation rumors to rest. TV Guide Magazine has exclusively learned from ABC that the network recently struck new deals with One Life to Live executive producer Frank Valentini and headwriter Ron Carlivati. Valentini, who yesterday celebrated his 25th anniversary with OLTL, has signed a two-year contract to remain with the show. Carlivati's contract is for three years. Unlike CBS and NBC, ABC actually owns its daytime dramas, so the concept of a show pick-up doesn't really apply here. Thus, this news is as close as it comes to ABC acknowledging its commitment to keep the show on the air. Next week, I'll bring you the first post-deal interview with Valentini and Carlivati, in which they discuss their new lease on Life and where they plan to take the show in the future. In the meantime, can we all just relax a little bit?

You mean the same 3 year contract LB signed 2 weeks before they axed AMC.

  • Member

I don't remember anyone going on about how long LB's contract was. 3 years would make sense--and maybe it was because we read the news from bloggers like Jaymey who were pimping for AMC tro be canceled and all the reasons OLTL wouldn't be...

SO when did these contracts get inked. Is FV's contract basically up then come the end of the year?
