Indeed - two dramatic confrontations at gun point in the same summer!

The final scenes with Anthony and Macy were chilling, the way that everything played out like a romantic date on the surface level, but underneath it was a deadly cat and mouse game where both of them were secretly plotting to destroy the other. There were obvious hints of Shakespeare's Othello as well (with a tape recorder playing the role of the handkerchief).

Ivana dating Thorne after Dylan choosing Jessica...then stalking Macy before Anthony kills her.  Then Macy and Anthony's showdown was awesome as well.  Last time Macy received decent writing and focus.

I thought beefing up the younger set with Jasmine and Michael was smart...but neither character was used well.

Sheila's departure was a long time coming and was satisfying...but I would have waited a year or so before being back.

Wasn't 1995 when Bill Bell left the day to day stuff to his son..proving talent isn't inherited

I have to say, I barely even remember anything about the last few months of 1995. I just remember, like you say, the absolute awesomeness of the spring and summer, and the feeling that everything just kind of wrapped up at Thorne and Macy's beach wedding. I even remember thinking at that point that it almost felt like the show was ending and those scenes were like an epilogue. Everyone in the cast was there, it was a joyous wedding that everyone approved of (how often has that happened?), it seemed like the principal couples were all paired up in a way that could be the end game (Eric and Stephanie were pretty friendly, Ridge had just made his decision to stay married to Brooke, Thorne and Macy finally got their happy ending after years of misery), the Forresters and Spectras were getting along okay (except for the kids), and the major psychos were safely behind bars. The A, B, and C storylines had all been resolved during the summer, and it took a while to get new frontburner storylines going.

That's interesting! I have been wondering about when we'll see a shift in writing style. I'm only at early 1991 right now, so I'm not there yet. I wonder who has the most influence over the general "feel" of the show - the head writer or the executive producer. Going by what I remember, I seem to recall one clear "shift" by 1996/1997 and another one around 2003.

    • I am wholeheartedly enjoying this show. I just haven't been able to post as much as I used to. But yes, this episode needs to be submitted for the EMMYs and there needs to be wins. I better NOT see Y&R, DAYS, or B&B winning in categories over BTG. I feel like the only show that is giving BTG an ounce of competition this season is GH.
    • I never thought the day would come, but too much MM for me.
    • I think it may be that the character was brought in for a specific purpose and then became popular with viewers, and the show didn't know how to respond.  The choice to pivot away from Simon/India may show that you are right and they didn't care for her...although pairing them up may be another sign they didn't care for her. I don't connect well with this period but it does make me happy seeing some of these characters before the great purge and some of the surprises - I'd forgotten the wonderful Maureen O'Sullivan popped up to be bumped off. So typical of soaps by this point, but it doesn't grate as much as later on when Y&R would bring on any random cast member from Small Wonder. I'm also amazed at this time at just how much money the show must have had. The costumes for the Founder's celebration in summer 1984, or whatever it was, looked gorgeous.
    • Which officially started to feel that way today with them hearing each other out as they confronted each other at the same time.    Same. He was even catching himself when he was about to go overboard or do those tics that people don't seem to like. He failed a bit at the end, but he carried. It makes me think about a month back when it was discussed that the actor was better in other things he's been in. And I questioned then if that meant that he was playing Martin more intentionally. I questioned that briefly again today because he was giving.
    • I really like the actress who plays Margo. Don't know  her name. I'm so hesitant to google anyone because I don't want to know the length they were on the show. I've watched two episodes and I have to say that the show does not feel as dated as other shows. I tried to watch Ryan's Hope a few weeks back and some of the acting was a bit rough. EON is a lot more natural which amuses me considering it's a mystery/thriller show.
    • She’s INCREDIBLE. I’m so glad you enjoyed this my friend.
    • I loved SOAP OPERA NOW because they  did detailed analysis of the ratings.
    • I love MKA and feel like they never used her to her full potential with India. The character seemed to exist merely to fight with Alex and blackmail men into marrying/sleeping with her. As if! Then adopting an orphan right out of Little Orphan Annie...somebody BTS didn't like her, I think.
    • I mean...Sarah Michelle Gellar did go on to be a household name and food guru. I can see Ambyr doing the same with the same talent.  Amen.
