CarlD2 - Thanks for posting that interview with Strasser. She is my absolute favorite and I see so much of Dorian with Strasser as she is described here, though amplified. For all of her strength, the vulnerability is also evident, which makes her a fascinating character.

It was so weird seeing Viki tend bar. I thought Paris Texas was the only time she worked like that. Now we know why she was so good dealing with the truckers in Texas. She had this little experance at the White Lion. I actually can see that Niki would have been a great bartender. I wish they would have done that story sometime.

Mazel tov Judy! I saw her on stage about ten years ago in Hedda Gabler. Now did Agnes write any of her stuff on OLTL or was Judith just thanking Agnes for OLTL in general when Agnes got that SOD award?

This may be a common photo and I missed it, i don't know. I scanned it anyway, as I like the image of Nancy Pinkerton and her portrait, as Robin Strasser's portrait became such a critical part of her time on OLTL in the 93-00 run (not sure if Elaine or Claire had a portrait). I sometimes wonder if they just stuck a head on a body in Nancy's era - this portrait reminds me of the Angelique portrait from DS and the Rae Woodard portrait from RH.

Don't you think she looks a bit like Jacquie Courtney in that portrait?

This was in Bryna Laub's Soap Opera Annual.

Carl, you find the BEST stuff! Again, something I thought I'd always have to leave to imagination. Apparently, Dorian threw a big party and unveiled this portrait, replacing the one of Eugenia that had always hung there before. IIRC, Erika said that Viki had been in some accident and was paralyzed and she made her dramatic return at this party, stealing Dorian's thunder as she descended the stairs at Llanfair in a flowing white gown. In the 25th anniversary episode, Viki references "that caricature!" with which Dorian replaced her mother's portrait.

Oh good, I'm glad it wasn't already out there. When I first saw it I thought, "SFK will love this." And other Nancy Dorian fans (if we can be a fan of someone we have seen a 30 second clip of). I remember the story about Viki upstaging Dorian, but I'd forgotten the portrait went that far back.

I hope we might get to see this in color, or even <gasp> a clip, someday. It sounds like brilliant soap.

I love Nancy's facial expression as she stands by the fireplace. It is in many ways the essence of Dorian, even now.

Megan learns that Viki is her mother. That scene doesn't quite work (throw the lotion bottle in rage!), but the first scene between Viki and Megan post-reveal is phenomenal, so understated and beautifully acted. Remember when Viki had children who were worth a damn?

Does anyone know if Robin Strasser ever had her portait done for Llanfair? I mean when she first came on. I saw the old scenes from that time and it looks like by then they just did without the photo hanging over the mantal. I know she did a beutiful one decades later when Robin came back to town in the 1990's and bought "La Boulie" but i just wondered if they ever did one for Llanfair to replace Nancy Pinkerton's one. (thanks CarlD BTW. I never saw it before either.)

    • Haha, love to hear it, and thank you! Yeah, I just write down thoughts/notes as I'm watching in this viewing journal I'm keeping.  So, you get my raw, honest thoughts in the moment without me having to go back and remember or curate anything.

Watros is great, and I've liked her from the beginning, so I'm excited to see her evolve and shine even more as Annie continues to descend. I'll keep an eye out for that scene.  I have to say, Rick cracks me up, there are times when he makes jokes and you can tell the actor is having fun with it and cracking himself up. He's endearing. Let me suffer!    So funny how big Josh's hair is in the 80s. Sign of the times, I guess.   I can't wait to finally see the Sonni storyline and watch a younger Michelle Forbes shine. It's on my list, I will go back in time eventually and do this
    • This was late 1993, right before Roger is shot.
    • Haha I guess so, and in this recent case, Alan absolutely deserved it (many times over, honestly).
    • It's hard to remember, as Holly and Blake always seemed to be on the outs over something.
    • Ohhh yes, these were exciting!  What year was this?  Another added bonus, watching Tangie lurk around like a thief with that black beanie.

I'm happy to hear I'm not alone in my thoughts over Gilly's exit and Vivian's first and likely only contract storyline. It was just a shame. On one hand, I'm glad they decided to finally write for this family (as Gilly was sorely underused in 1995), but then on the other... that was what they decided? Sure, it was a bit soapy, but oh so gross. They could have come up with something better.
    • Women slapping guys is a little more common.  I grew up with CBS, so it doesn't seem strange to me. If you got a slap, you usually really deserved it.
    • That could be it too. I just remember a slap at some point. That would have been around when she was made at Holly for "ruining" her one-sided relationship with Alan Michael. I don't know if you will be getting to 2000 (if you do - buckle up!) but there's a character who was intended to be Stacy.
    • Agree with all of this. They use stuff like the redecoration and the party as major events and nothing comes of it. Kyle/Claire is of no interest to me because Kyle has already been deeply in love with Lola and summer so his devotion to Claire is more of the same. And Claire is a character that came from a nonsense rewrite and now is presented as Little Miss Innocent, her dark past swept away. That charm bracelet of Nikki's must weigh a ton. The list of grandchildren seemed endless. The thing is, most of them are offscreen and ignored. Victoria seems like a neglectful parent. Was Dylan mentioned? Another dumb rewrite character. Not only is the show hampered by so many vet charcters, TPTB don't seem interested in venturing into new areas with them. Cole was brought by but there hasn't been any dramatic story that could impact on Victoria? What had he been doing all those years? So many characters w/o stories talking about businesses we never see.
    • I thought it was Sherry Stringfield, but maybe it was before Blake slept with Ross.
    • Thank you for the great background and summary - very helpful!  Yes, very odd they never brought her back, but at least J mentioned her, so not truly forgotten. Ah interesting, I guess I never realized that CBS was a bit more conservative/old-fashioned in a way, at least pre-2000 or so. It's funny, I wrote that about slapping, and then a few episodes later, Vivian storms into the Spaulding mansion and slaps Alan. It's like I spoke it into existence.
