I guess this was the second one - the first was a brunette right?

I don't remember Dimitri's later sweaters being quite that bad. My grandfather really did own this sweater.

When Peggy came in was she someone who had started working there or had she been around for years, offcamera? I think she knew Edmund, right? I can't remember now.

I was reading some 1996 article asking writers what audience reaction surprised them - one of the AMC people said the audience reaction to Maria/Dimitri screwing around surprised them, because the viewers were disappointed in the characters, whereas the show thought viewers would just see it as people who were upset and grieving. Just another big example of the producers of that era, and later on, not getting fans, or what fans wanted to see.

I think the timing was a big factor for the fans - Maria and Edmund had gone through this heart-wrenching fertility battle and adoption, only to have to give Sam back to Kelsey, and Erica and Dimitri had spent so long dealing with addiction to painkillers, and I think a lot of the fans really wanted some happiness for both couples. To instead get grief sex with the wrong partner - especially when Erica wasn't cheating with Kinder that time since he'd knocked her out and staged the whole scene - it just wasn't what the fans were expecting. I wasn't as invested in Erica/Dimitri at this point, but I was still more or less rooting for them, and to have him sleep with Maria just made me hate him.

At the time it felt like an excuse to have the two characters sleep together. There wasn't enough build-up. It didn't help this came after a long period of me-me type behavior from both. I think that's probably one of the first times I remember a blatantly plot driven story when I was watching AMC - even stuff like the Noah/Julia Jamaica follies didn't knock me over that way.

The Terrence beating was I believe 1991. That was the episode that won All My Children its first Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. I don't remember a brunette Galen, but maybe I'm wrong.

ETA: I just checked IMDB and you're right. Karen Person was Galen #2. It's all coming back to me. The first Galen left really abruptly. Wasn't she married to Tom Eplin?

That was sooo awful and hilarious!

Charlie's equine chompers have got so many x-rated jokes involving Erica's anatomy rolling around my brain. And spot on with the sexy Flintstone character look. Erocka Kane? ph34r.png I like how she and Brooke are sporting unique, equally matched cool looks here.

Right right. Honestly, I didn't remember CharLie having much interaction with Erica at all, this scene kind of surprised me. I also remembered Helga having a much stronger accent, but that's my memory being influenced by her role as Mary Fisher's maid in She-Devil.

    • If NBC could have for seen the ratings of Lovers & Friends (the replacement for Somerset).. they would have for sure kept Somerset on the air longer. https://jason47.com/days/ratings1976.html  (ratings for Somerset in the final year) https://jason47.com/days/ratings1977.html (ratings for Lovers & Friends short run...getting as low as a 2 rating).

    • I liked them, too, and was really disappointed it never went anywhere. The whole art theft story was ridiculous, but they had a nice chemistry. Certainly nicer than Alan with Christine. With her, he looked like the funny uncle. The worst thing they did to Bolger, IMO, was having Phillip write that DREADFUL novel and dramatizing it while he wrote it. GAG, that has to be in the running for one of their worst storylines that didn't involve wacky things like clones or time travel. Soaps rarely do school storylines, or don't do them for very long. Not the case so much in the early days of soaps, but after GH took off in the late 70s other soaps took their lead and would catapult teens/young adults into adult stories right away. That's one reason Phillip and Mindy ended up with so many ex-spouses--they started getting married really young. They shipped Dina and Cameron off really fast after high school and stuck Alan Michael in a marriage storyline with Harley. Did he EVER go to college? I don't think so. It may also partly explain why Quint and Annabelle had to go, beyond TPTB wanting to do a cast sweep. Teaching is not a profession that plays well on a soap. Quint definitely had to quit being Indiana Jones, because that wore thin really fast, but they didn't do him favors by making him a professor. If they wanted to keep him, they should have done what they did with Amanda (who was in another dead-end soap job, concert pianist)--have him work at Spaulding as one of the major stockholders.
    • Judith McConnell (Augusta) and Denise Alexander (Lesley) were great screen partners on GH.  They got into some stellar arguments in character in the medicine room.
    • He also commented that Brad knows that fans are sick of the constant fake deaths on this show: Finn, Sheila, etc and that it's hard to take this seriously if it's another fake death

    • I just don't think Brad Bell has it in him to actually kill off Liam. He should have killed off Eric when he had the chance. I know John McCook is an original cast member, but Eric is even more useless than Liam. Eric should have died and then it would be revealed that he died without a valid will, so Donna, as his wife, inherits everything, including his shares in Forrester Creations.
    • I think we all will, isn't that how soaps work? lol
    • ^^ I'll believe it when it actually happens.
