FROM THE VAULT: 50 YEARS AGO TODAY: EPISODE # 2595...MARCH 11, 1976

Trish visits Mike and tries to reassure him about his Dad, that no one is keeping anything from him. She tells him about her father, and that she feels certain he wants to change her name from Clayton to Stanhope. But in the lawyer's office, we see that Stanhope has had his attorney draw up a paper for Trish to sign, admitting he isn't her father. Later, Stanhope is stunned to find a letter waiting for him at Trish's motel. He is suspicious of her leaving, thinking she's gone home to get her own lawyer, then feels a guilt as he reads her tender, loving letter. He begins to wonder if he really could be the girl's father.

Don is deeply shaken and touched by Robert, who comes to ask him to draw up a premarital agreement stating he'll abide by Rebecca's wishes if she doesn't want to be a wife to him during their marriage, or wants a divorce and will give up claim to the baby, as long as he can give it a legal name. Hope and Doug, at the same time, come in from having made a snow "woman" trying to make it look like Rebecca. Doug tries to draw Rebecca out about Johnny Collins but is interrupted by a phone call. Rebecca takes it and is shaken when Don asks her to come to his office. Rebecca tries to evade Don's questioning. He tells her about Robert's unselfish desire to help her. Demands she tell the man the truth, that she was artificially inseminated by some unknown man, When Robert returns home, he asks Doug if he'd object to his marrying Rebecca, Doug says he is talking to the wrong man...ask the father of her baby,

Neil is thrown when Don calls him over and digs in for the truth about why Rebecca is stalling both Robert and Johnny. Neil goes into the other office to talk to Rebecca, at a loss, just as she is, about what to do. He regrets the whole insemination deal because one party, Rebecca, knows the identity of the other, Doug. He tells her the ball is in her court. But whether she gives up the baby for adoption or not, she'll have a lot of explaining either way. when Rebecca comes home, she finally tells Robert she went to see Don and heard of Robert's offer. She is touched, but tells him she can't marry any man.

Adele and Brooke are happy together as Brooke prepares something to eat. When she goes into the kitchen, Adele slips to the bedroom. Brooke catches her drinking, is torn apart when Adele returns, not knowing Brooke saw her. Brooke goes to Helen Grant, devastated by her mother's secret drinking after word from Neil about how damaged her liver is. Helen sees the signs of self pity in Brooke. Warns her from experience not to go that route. There's no meeting of minds and hearts when the drinker feels guilt and the loved one feels put upon, At the same time, Neil has dropped by to check on Adele, finds her on her way to a big drunk. Helen and Brooke have come to help Adele, find Neil there. Helen talks to Adele in the bedroom. Her mother loves her daughter more than the bottle, which isn't always the case with the alcoholic, so there's still hope for Adele.

Thanks @JAS0N47 I'd love to see the Brooke story in full someday.

Here's the 1984 SOD Awards. Mostly GH actors but a few DAYS people.

Brooke was 5/75-8/77. Looks like I have coverage of all but 27 episodes from 6/75-4/76 and 19 episodes from 6/76-9/76. So the only big months missing during Brooke's first 17 months on the show are 5/75 and 5/76. I also have her final script from 8/77. If there's any specific episode # you'd want me to post, I could do that when I have time. Or perhaps eventually I could do an outline of one episode per month so you could see more in-depth what Brooke was doing each month from 6/75-9/76.

Thanks. I meant more in terms of the show eventually making those episodes available. You already do so much for fans, I wasn't expecting any more of your work.

Been waiting to see those episodes too! In the meantime, here's Brooke's final episode (until she returns as Stephanie):

FROM THE VAULT: EPISODE # 2939...JULY 11, 1977

Brooke is flooring the car accelerator, sirens in the background, vowing they're not going to stop her, as Ellen the hitchhiker begs her to slow down. Meanwhile, Jeri arrives at Brooke's apartment to find out why Trish was so upset earlier this evening. Trish tells her Brooke is in terrible trouble and they try to figure out what it's all about. Jeri is concerned about Trish, feels Trish shouldn't get mixed up in it but Trish continues to worry about Brooke. Jeri tries to calm her down and Trish asks Jeri to go with her to Doug's Place. It might help.

At Doug's Place, Julie joins Bob at a table, sorry to see him so troubled, offers to be a good listener but he doesn't want to discuss it, came here in order not to be alone. Doug joins them for general conversation, then they both leave Bob. Doug tells Julie that Rebecca's very upset because Robert's told her about the court order and Doug thinks Julie should talk to her. He's suspicious Rebecca might try to steal little Dougie out from under Robert's nose tonight but Julie can't believe this. However, she agrees to talk to Rebecca.

In Doug's family room, Rebecca is on the phone to Johnny telling him she won't be back tomorrow because Dougie has a cold. Julie enters and she and Rebecca talk about the court order. Julie defends Robert's position but Rebecca sees it differently, points out she could have just taken Dougie and gone. The conversation resolves nothing. Back in Doug's Place, Robert is telling Doug he's through being Mr. Nice Guy, won't let Rebecca take Dougie away. Doug agrees, looks up and sees Trish and Jeri enter. Doug tries to entice Trish to sing but she begs off, however Doug won't take no for an answer and Trish starts to sing. We see Bob feeling sad, also Robert, then Jeri who isn't too happy, then Doug who seems pleased to see Trish singing again.

A lone State Trooper is following a distant car, is checking on the radio with headquarters, telling them he's picked up the car matching the description of the suspect's car, but the driver is failing to respond to the siren and he is pursuing, will report back. Meanwhile, Ellen the hitchhiker is getting very upset at Brooke's speeding, begs Brooke to pull over and stop but Brooke is sure she can lose the patrol car further up. At the lakehouse studio, Mary is pacing nervously as Neil tries to get her to call of the police but she has refused. They argue, but Mary is determined not to let Brooke get away with it. In the police car, the State Trooper reports on is radio that he's lost contact with the suspect's vehicle, will double back and try to pick her up again and asks for assistance and back-up.

At Doug's Place, Doug and Trish are finishing up a duet. Bob asks Trish and Jeri to join him, apologizes to Trish for involving her in an unpleasant situation. Bob is shocked when Trish tells him Mary called the police after he left the apartment. Bob rushes out saying he has to stop them. Trish and Jeri wonder what's going on. Meanwhile, Brooke is triumphant, thinks she's lost the patrol car, and is confident she's going to get away with it, might just drive through the night, in fact, might drive her companion, Ellen, to California. But Ellen, just beginning to breathe again, says she's changed her mind, questions Brooke about what she's running from and informs Brooke she's like to get out at the next town. At Doug's Place, Bob is on the phone talking to the State Police Sergeant trying to convince him it was all a mistake. At the same time, Brooke is continuing to drive at breakneck speed, the hitchhiker is terrified, begs Brooke to stop, a siren is heard again faintly, Brooke starts to floor the accelerator, a curve comes up, screech of tires, a swerve and they go off the road. The State Trooper has seen this from a distance and slows down.
