I’ve reache October 12th and the end of Maxwell Heathaway in 1984. I wonder if the actor left on his own or if they axed him coz of Stefanos return next week coming up?

I really love 1984 but the Neil-Liz-Carlo storyline is so boring and I don’t blame Don Diamont for leaving. Can’t wait for this story to be over with. Can’t believe I still have like 10 weeks of it

I liked Neil but overall his character has been more dead weight than actually interesting. When Liz left in 1986 Neil became even more boring.. When he finally got a great storyline with Maggie they wrote him off lmao

Don on the other hand had much more potential and was much more settled in. Can’t believe I’m going to lose him in a couple of months   Why did the writers give up on Don?

AND if Marlena’s pregnancy in 1984 is not THE LONGEST soap opera pregnancy in history then I don’t know. She has been pregnant for more than 6-8 months. This felt like a real pregnancy lol

It looks like once Mascolo agreed to return they hurriedly dropped Tom Hallick.

The first of the rewrites making Megan a Di Mera.

Jed Allan was offered recurring but he refused so that was it for Don.

If he and Bill and Susan had stayed on, I wonder how things would have developed?

They might have been marginalized but they would still have been onscreen and maybe end up being used more at some point.

Oh ok.. but it was for the best.. It got him picked up by Y&R later on. Good for him coz his character would not have the longevity on Days like his character over on Y&R if we are being honest.

I was quite surprised though coz in those few months Tom Hallick appeared in 70 damn episodes. He was nearly in every episode lol

i haven’t gotten to Stefano‘s return yet but the last week of Maxwell felt out of character of the hard men that he was. They really wrote him out between 5 episodes lol But I did liked the way Andre and Abigail got rid of him

That‘s a shame about Jed Allen. But hey it was for the better though coz it got him a big gig later on with Santa Barbara where his talent was more used than during what I’ve seen of him in 84. what a waste

Coz the storylines he had in the 70‘s seemed so exciting. What a letdown.
The break up of Maggie and him was so random and I feel it had to do with Suzanne‘s illness. But the scenes he shared with Kimberly were so amazing and I wish the writers would’ve gone there with them lol

Stefano‘s return was well done with him meeting Megan! Even if it was a re-write I enjoyed those scenes.

Gosh I loved Wayne as Roman and even Drake when he played Roman for 4-5 years until they turned Him into John.

Its a shame Stefano is dead otherwise I would be totally fine if Stefano would get his revenge on Josh his Roman lol I loved that dude as Chris and it sounds cold as hell but I wouldn’t mind if any of the DiMeras would take on Stefano‘s request of destroying Roman

Of course I loved Wayne as Roman too.  Not really the point you are making, but I loved Drake as Roman and I feel like John was much more serious of a character after the reveal.  I 'get' why John was pretty bummed his entire life was a lie, but Drake/John ended up losing some of spark and humor his Roman had.

I still love John, of course but some of the levity and fun was gone.

Isn't it curious how in 2017, Julie had to eulogize David on "Days of Our Lives," despite the character being absent from our screens since 1983? The show didn't even include any flashbacks to his earlier appearances, making the moment feel somewhat disconnected from the show's history.

Probably not enough demand / nostalgia for it to make it seem worthwhile to go through the archives. Plus they might've not entirely decided if he was dead-dead or "dead" at that point, so maybe they wanted to keep the door slightly open for a recast.

It's the same as killing Bill Horton on February 18, 2020. Although his character was off screen for so many years, basically since 1994 (I'm not including the short stint of John H. Martin during June 2010 - just a substitute). But at least the production showed some flashbacks to the 70's.

To be honest, just reading David's history I'm not sure how many memorable stand-out moments he actually had. His conception and adoption is of course a big story, but that's more Julie's story. I guess the interracial love story, but that was from what I can tell mostly played as a will-or-won't they until they scrapped it. Plus they were going to bring on a new Valerie.

The only scenes where I could think they could've used is when David was presumed dead and I guess Julie should've had scenes where she reacted. But I'm not sure if those were really stand out scenes that would've been appropriate to air (though of course I'd like to see anything from those days).

    • Yeah, and quite honestly, are there really that many scenes that are flashback-worthy at this point in the run?
    • I know at one point they were on Hulu & i-Tunes. I just checked it on JustWatch.com & it indicates 1 season on Prime Video & on AppleTV. Have fun!
    • That era is so weird...they made a big deal out of all three of those characters and then they just..disappeared! Not that I am complaining. We talk about the bad out of character writing for Alex under JFP..but this was one example that may have led them to write her being so obsessive with Nick.  WHY would Alex accept Flock of Seagulls guy as her brother? They had her in one scene (setting up the Alan return) complain that Alan abandoned her...she blackmailed him into leaving town and she had been angry at him for helping Brandon with Lujack and also using Spaulding for that dumb dreaming death thing. Endless scenes of her with Simon, I can't believe Bev wasn't bored to death! I would also add Pam writing the scene where she lets Ms. Sally die in front of her to protect Alan and  the writing for Alex could be screwy even before JFP.
    • On this day 34 years ago the final episode of Dallas and came in at an astonishing #2 in the ratings after two straight seasons of weak ratings. Interesting Knots was #27 for that week as well:

    • Thank you for clearing that up. I wasn't watching GL regularly yet at that point, but seems to me I should have remembered the big wedding after Leslie's death (which I do remember) described in the profile. Is there a web archive of SOD summaries, or are referring to your own personal collection?
    • I was bummed that 2.0 ended because Mcpherson (headwriter) had really set up some interesting stories and we never got to find out where the stories would go once they resumed production on 'season 2'. I remembered the EP (Ginger Smith) and a lot of the stars gave a lot of credit to McPherson being able to come in on very short notice and come up with stories/plots (I think it was a very short turnaround time of a few weeks).  It was nice that she got to redeem herself after her year long Days stint was not well reviewed/liked.

    • It seems like a setup for failure to review a single episode of a soap, but Cleveland Amory was a foolish man.  His taste was so predictable, that one wondered why bother reviewing a medium he so clearly disliked. (found on Facebook retro TV group) Another case in point of his misogyny from his review of Dark Shadows (Can you imagine the magazine with the widest circulation in the country insulting its customer in this way today?)

    • They could easily be re-created, or even re-shot in different ways, especially if they were re-shooting scenes at some point, as well.
    • The Ted recast really is a shame because now they won't be able to do flashbacks to the best scenes the show has done to date.
