One of the first sitcoms I saw in it's first run. Martin paid a lot of homage to other sitcoms of the past, LaWanda Page, Marla Gibbs and Richard Moll had guest appearances. The episode that I enjoyed the most was the one where Martin's mother's bird died while Gina was watching it and Mrs. Payne threw a fit. And also the one where Miss Jeri fought with Martin over a sandwich, only to stomp on it after he decided to give it to her. "I don't eat no damn tuna".

I think my favorite episode was when Gina was indebted to Shenehneh and the only way for her to pay up was to work at her hair salon...lol. Her feud with Pam was classic

Yes and yes Redd, love those both (RIP Miss Gerri... I got so tickled when I went to her IMDb and saw that she was credited as "Screaming Mourner in Funeral" in the MLK miniseries "King" ).

I can't believe the woman who played Miss Gerri was around 70 then. She's doing high kicks and everything.

I know! She died soon after the show ended, I hope Martin hadn't roughed her up too bad. :o But it did sound like she never met a Newport she didn't like.

Whade made the show so great was the recurring characters. They really helped give Martin's world favor

Ms. Geri

Shenneneh

Bruh-man...I love how he would just randomly come into Martin's apartment through the fire escape, go get a sandwich and leave without talking

Keylolo

Jerome

Roscoe

and so much more
