I know the transit strike was pre-empting the soaps like crazy that week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), local ABC (in NYC) was particuarly interrupting for anything, their was atleast almost one full episode of GH they interrupted. AMC, OLTL were also getting a lot of interruptions. I'm surprised all the soaps didn't look worse for that, NY is one of the largest markets if not the largest. Maybe the CBS/ABC NY folk can pick up on what was happening with those network and their local affiliates. But again it wasn't a holiday week (12/19-23), this week is a holiday week!

The ratings really look bad. Compared to last year, the week leading up to Christmas, 5 Soaps had ratings over a 3.0 (Y&R, B&B, GH, Days & AMC). This year only Y&R and B&B were over a 3.0. This weeks numbers are usually the holiday spike, last year in the week between Christmas & New Years, 7 soaps had ratings at a 3.0 or higher. The numbers out for last week only echo the sentiment that soap viewership is down acrossed the board. There doesn't seem to be one answer out there to stop the bleeding. Not a good thing going into 2006.

I think PSNS did pretty well considering how often it got pre-empted during the strike for breaking news. And it's nice to see Days up a spot. I will actually look forward to ratings in the coming weeks, especially once Days' current storyline kicks into high gear. :)

Passios nearly hit 3 million viewers on the Friday. AMC had a consistent week but wow look at DAYS big shot in viewers up to #3 overall... AMC hit 2.0 in 18-49 for the first time I think since like last May or June so that's good news!!!

OLTL's ratings have been really poor for a couple of months now.

Although I am enjoying the show as much as ever and think Higley is doing a SUPERB job, I do not understand why she is cut so much slack when Michael Malone's ratings last year were a bit better. Maybe ABC is willing to stand by her because they think she is helming a quality show? However, she needs to watch her back. It's too bad, because everything shouldn't revolve around ratings; the sad fact is, though, that it does.

Congrats to AMC for going up. They have caught a hell of a lot of flak this year (as OLTL did in '04), so it's nice to see them making a turn-around for the New Year.

OLTL had an amazing year and kudos to ABC for letting Higley take the reigns and do what she wanted to.... OLTL has hit a bit of a rut lately for me as I am not enjoying the show as much as I was in the summer but still Dena is doing an "ok" job. AMC is finally rising and much better in terms of quality, I am back to fully enjoying my #1 soap again.

    • Another great episode.  GH has been pretty good this year, loading up the chamber, because now there's many bullets to fire, and another one was fired today when Nina found out Michael is the father of Sasha's baby.  I hope this secret comes out at the hearing.  I've also liked the slow burn with Gio/Emma. There's just so many things to look forward to on this show now.  GH is finally back to being really good.
    • I'm all for it. Get them Nina!

    • I am blown away that Christie Clark is 51, and she debuted 39 years ago. They gave her a lovely script today.  But, I could not think of any other examples in culture of someone able to jump right back into the skin of a character, after virtually retiring from acting years ago. I was trying to recall if Carrie left for a bit with Anna after Roman died (because she wasn't at Bo & Hope's wedding), and then returned as a pre-teen Christie?  Or if she was just SORASed off-screen?  But, whenever I see the character I am reminded how much more trauma she's endured than Sami, and yet she remains such a nice person.
    • Weirdly I feel like Nina was the most sus about the entire situation.  Normally I would have given this one to Carly, but Nina was always kind of trying to make it make sense. I think Nina (and Alexis) are actually really smart characters.  They just constantly get in their own way with dumb plans lol.
    • Rewatching some of 1991 I had to appreciate what a strong week March 5-12 1991 was. Cassandra dies, Nina shoots David, Sheila switces the babies, and drunk Nikki all occurring simultaneously. 1991 and 92 were pretty strong overall.
    • Still loving all the Gio fallout, but the scenes that really surprised me this episode were the ones with Nina and Maxie. I was not expecting Nina to be the one to put together all the pieces about Sasha's baby daddy. This custody hearing is about to get explosive!
    • I really hope after the secret comes out their interactions don't stop
    • BAHAHA  I needed that laugh today. Talk about one note.  I would put Derek and Ashley a notch above Dani. Dani's scenes are basically rinse, lather, and repeat for 60 episodes and counting.  It's as if she was transported from the soap opera Passions onto this soap.  MVJ should put aside her friendship/admiration for Karla and look at the fact that this character isn't wroking as written.
    • Agreed.  It doesn't feel in character at all.
    • You could always tell whenever Douglas Marland enjoyed writing for a particular actor, because he'd pull out all the stops for them; and Julianne Moore was no exception.
