Yeah, didn't Kyle first get involved in tampering with DNA test results when he took Mitch's bone marrow and let people think it was Stacey's, because Roxy told him it was the only way to save Shane's life? I think the blackmailing only came later. Being willing to risk his job and criminal prosecution to help save a sick child - however ludicrous that whole bone marrow transplant story was - was a good indication, I think, that he's not a fundamentally bad guy. And it makes total sense to me that Roxy would later befriend him, even after trying to blackmail her to get out of a jam, considering he first stuck his neck out to help her save her grandson and keep her secret about Mitch being Rex's father. If memory serves, there was also a pivotal turning point where Kyle decided to do something to help prove that Stacey wasn't the donor or helped find the stolen bag of blood or something that would ultimately ensure that Shane could get another transfusion if he ever needed it, without a guarantee that Natalie or whoever would drop some charges against him. I'm fuzzy on the details, but I distinctly remember that being the upshot.

I see it potentially going another way. Unless something gets derailed - which on this show seems to happen all too often to some of the best potential stories - it seems like the groundwork has been laid for Kyle to somehow get involved in keeping the secret about Stacey's baby's paternity. He's a lab technician, so he's one of the only characters in soapdom who logically should be able to mess with DNA tests, and he's going to be classmates with Schuyler in med school, I think (is that still happening?), who's already in that mess up to his eyeballs. There are plenty of ways for him to find out about the baby before Fish does and either be threatened by Fish having fathered a child while he was in the closet and/or not want to be tied down with a kid at this point, and subsequently do things to keep it from coming out that will blow up in his face.

I'd be ok with either scenario if written well - a cool twist to come out of the otherwise wretched Stacey baby story.

I think it's a usual part of soaps, especially today's more simplistic soaps, that someone would only want to be with their first love. I can buy that a lot more with Fish/Kyle than with Rex/Gigi, especially since they haven't claimed Fish was celibate that whole time.

    • Holly's final big story was the Sebastian mess in late 2004.   Vanessa and Matt were promoted to regulars near the end and were heavily recurring prior to that starting around 2007/2008.
    • Keith has a softer presence, but it would have helped to see him be more aggressive or proactive in protecting them instead of standing around like a mannequin.
    • She needs to learn to be honest with her husband about her lusty interests because being sex positive only works if you're not cheating on your spouse.

    • Very disappointed in the writers in the way they are screwing with Nicole, Ted,  and Kat to make Leslie remain viable. So many holes everywhere.
    • Somebody brought this up elsewhere which emphasizes why this NuTed appears as such a weakling. Why is Kat doing what HE should be doing? And that's everything he can to rid him and his family of this crazy woman. Kat is doing all kinds of things she shouldn't do but now I understand her more. She can't count on her father to eliminate this woman because he's a wimp. He's been too busy inviting her into his home and serving her drinks and offering her invitations to birthday parties. WIMP!!!!

    • This is (maybe) overly simplistic and nonsoapy, but Doug needs to go to Gamblers Anonymous, to deal with the addictive neurological excitement hits that gambling gives him - and which control his life. Vanessa needs to go to therapy to find ways to remain healthfully lusty and sex-positive, but to stay away from anyone who would demean her.
    • YT keeps commending GL clips to me. I discovered Kathleen Cullen was on in Christmas 1987. Was there any talk of making it permanent  or was this just a special visit? I wish they had made the visit permanent. I liked her chemistry with Grant Aleksander.
    • I'm not sure it's as unpopular as you think.  I just think the show knew they were in a bind, and needed a proven couple for the viewers to invest in. Trying to reunite Vanessa and Ross had just failed in 87. I don't think Ed and Holly's affair was well received, as Simon and Garrett had a brother/sister chemistry. Enter Billy and Vanessa, who give you history and an out not to try and do a Josh/Reva/Billy triangle, which would've really wrecked the relationship between Josh and Billy. I'd have been ok with trying Vanessa/Ross again, and doing a Vanessa/Ross/Holly/Billy quad for a while. I hated Nadine. HATED. She had to be the most insufferable also-ran before ATWT's Julia Lindsay. This is where I wish I knew Roger's history better.
