Members JackPeyton
Good. Im sorry if i sound harsh, because i dont mean to be. I like Bryan, i think he is a great guy and awesome dude. A real team player. However, Lucas hasnt worked in yars. The last time he really worked was when he and Sami first got together back in 2003. Since then he just has not fit anywhere. And not by his own fault by any means, but still. His fallback has always been with Sami and he is not needed there anymore because she has a far more interesting dynamic with EJ and a current romance with good guy Rafe. All he is at this point is sami's baby daddy. I do however wonder what this means for an upcoming storyline with Maggie falling off the wagon, because Lucas should be a big part of that esp if something happens to Will and thats why they recasted. Members soapfan770
Actually come to think of it but hasn't Dattilo been wanting off the show for the past couple of years?

Members soapfan770
Ah thanks. It seems to me about last year this time there was a rumor that he going to leave the show because he was terribly unhappy with his storyline and creating tensions on the set. I don't know if that was just a vicious rumor or if it was someone else.
Members Sindacco
But that's just the thing. For years he was just a prop for Sami. They never gave him a real story outside of Sami's. And no I don't count the affair this past year, that was about Chloe, Daniel and Kate, not Lucas.
Members DRW50
I think the nature of the stories with Sami hurt as much as them being about Sami. They should have written them as friends, nothing else, or as a couple who schemed and didn't want a typical relationship. So many of the Lucas stories ended up being about him being a screw up, or a controlling, screaming type, or falling off the wagon. Even when he wasn't with Sami that's what he had (with Nicole). It's a shame they haven't written him in a different way, at least not for a long time now. In some ways I'm surprised he's lasted this long, with the writing he's had. Members JackPeyton
Lucas has always been a supporting player who is really just a prop. For Sami, for Kate, for Carrie, for Austin, For Daniel, for Chloe.
Members MikeGoldy
Truly, the problem is that Datillo isn't a leading man. And he isn't a strong enough actor to cover for that.
Administrator Toups Posted December 22, 2009 Administrator Share Posted December 22, 2009 Lucas shouldn't be a leading mean. He's a supporting character and in soaps, you need supporting characters. Lucas is a great one (or should be) since he still has a family in town.
Members Darn
I liked Sami and Lucas, they made sense. I don't like Sami playing Fancy/Sheridan to Luis (he's Luis, not Rafe, she's Theresa and that other dude is Ethan, they just are). Lucas got her, they had a great dynamic until Lucas was turned into Austin and always mad at her or being duped by her.
Members MikeGoldy
If this was 20 years ago, DAYS could afford to keep someone on contract to be a supporting player. Now, it doesn't make sense for the show to do that.
Members DRW50
I think Sami and Lucas was one of those ideas which JER always had and on paper I think it would have worked but in reality it didn't click for me. Of course I might feel differently if the time they were together the longest (2006-2007) hadn't had such awful writing. Arianna doesn't remind me of Teresa, perhaps because when I watched Passions, Teresa was a crazy stalker. I didn't see her heroine years. Rafe does remind me of Luis. Brady/Ethan, I can see that. I don't really mind as I didn't care for Lowder's Brady.
Members JackPeyton
i dont even think its a question if they can afford him. I am sure if they felt they had story and an overall need for him they would give him another contract. However, im sure they dont see much long term story for him. Hes really a younger version of the romanc character - no story, no direction, yes some connections but really isnt needed. Aside from the maggie drinking again storyline i cant even think of anything coming up they would need him to play supporting in. Other characters like Brady and Rafe and Will can fill the void left by Lucas in what little void there is when he is gone. Hopefully we can get rid of Daniel and Chloe next and bring back another Horton like Mike or Sarah next. I did figure they would maybe place him on recurring tho. Administrator Toups Posted December 22, 2009 Administrator Share Posted December 22, 2009 I doubt he's making big bucks. Plus you can negotiate a lower pay or put him on recurring. You don't really need a contract unless the writers have a plan to use you heavily. You don't need Lucas to be on 3 days a week. I'm disappointed we haven't had much Sami/Lucas scenes lately. I don't think Lucas has gone to see Sami since he got out of rehab. There should at least be an episode where Lucas goes to see Sami because Sydney's missing.
