Members EricMontreal22
I HATED that Charlie. I have to admit part of it was superficial--I know he's related to theKennedys or whatever but I found him obnoxious and frankly kinda ugly (I feel awful saying). I didn't start watching AMC till the end of '91 so didn't knowearlier Charlies but I remember some family friends (two girls a bitolder than me) complained bitterly saying the Charlie they remembered was super hot, and then to have him replaced by this. Right Cecily returned (from her beauty pageant rounds or whatever) as part of the 25th anniversary returns and stuck around. I had no background with her so never got the appeal and I remember even back then finding the net romance so cliche and awful (and Charlie was meant to be a detective for crying out loud) I barely noticed when they were written out. Members Pine Charles
I guess I'm the only one, but I kinda liked the Charlie & Cecily online dating story. I didn't even know what the internet was back then, or that you could converse on computers, so I guess that's what intrigued me. heh!
Members DRW50
The only part of the story I liked was Kelly Ripa's performance. It was like...Kelly Ripa Acts! The wedding that wasn't was probably the best work of her acting career. And she did that nasty story at 6 or 7 months pregnant. That was the year of hell for pregnant soap actresses -- at the same time, late term Krista Allen was going through forced heroin addiction and withdrawl on DAYS, and Kassie de Paiva was losing her late term baby and being put into a coma on OLTL. Ugh. I do think a lot of that was mandates. I remember the SOD article saying AMC was "hunking up" with Max Caulfield, Tanner, Michael Lowry, Daniel Cosgrove. That led to the awful stuff where Jake, judgmental from the time he fell out of the tree, berated Liza 24/7 for being a tabloid reporter, and reduced her to wanting to sit around on his dinghy and wait on him. I guess it's comforting to know Jake is a horse's behind through almost every regime (I did like him when he was with Greenlee). I didn't know a lot about the Internet then either, so that was interesting. The rest...hmm...
Members EricMontreal22
Me too, and Broderick seemed tobe making an effort to keep them on the canvas even if they were in back burner stories, Kevin even started to get a boyfriend (the PVInn waiter)--which was nice since MichaelDelaney wasphazedout (did the character leave) and I felt the actor was never comfortable in the role anyway (though I liked his boyfriend Dr Chris played by Broadway actor DanielMcDonald who recently passed away, much more). With Broderick fired there didn't seem to be anyone behind the scenes who cared if Kevin left or stayed so he was just forgotten (I don't think it was ever a contract role). Kelsey left soon after. Carl thinks he talked with marbles in his mouth anyway But yeah--maybe Broderick could bring him back (I know it won't happen..)_
Members EricMontreal22
They were just too boring to care about... I did know something about the internet so that didn't help... It wasn't till Daytime to Remember like a year later they showed an episode with Nico and Cecily (wow back when I found Maurice B appealing!) and I kinda got the appeal of Cecily as a character. Members Pine Charles
Ha, yeah, the "Kennedy Charlie" always reminded me of a horse. I've always liked Cecily, but, yeah -- her spark was kinda gone apon her return (and I also wasn't digging that short hair-don't on her).
Members EricMontreal22
Woah I do not remember this at ALL. Funny though that then McTavish brought in a black son for Opal.
Members DRW50
I do think he talked with marbles in his mouth, but I thought it worked OK for the role of Kevin. Kevin was an awkward, confused young man, and Jorgensen conveyed that well. He also worked very well with Kelsey. I admired AMC's guts because a lot of people wanted them to get together, but the story did not end that way. I wish they'd done more with his homophobe brother, Jason. I didn't think they should have had him as Laurel's killer. He had a lot of layers. Michael's boyfriend was so beautiful, and such a good actor. I had no idea he was dead At the time I was so pleased to see a male couple, and not as a cheap joke. Yes, all they did was bear hug, but it was a lot more than we got at the time, and frankly, a lot more than we usually get now.

Members EricMontreal22
Yeah that was the new +95 theme and yes shemadeit slower with no beat--I wonder if this reflected to her waht AMC was in the late 70s when she was on the show? I know AMC has always been known for its comedy and broad characters but that didn't really come to what we all knowtill the early 80s when they lightened the tone quite a bit (partly because it had recently gone to an hour)
Members DRW50
When I watched some of her original run on Youtube, I was like, is that the same character? I always wondered if they made Tara so matronly on her return because of Charlie, or if Gorney just looked that way. That's a very nice photo of Julia Barr. Members Pine Charles
I remember hating that they made Trevor such a big homophobe during that..because I LOVED Trevor.
Members Vee
I liked Cecily a lot. But I barely knew how to record anything at the time, I was constantly watching only when faking sick from school, and soon enough she was gone. Looking back on Charlie Brent, it's sad that the character has not been brought back with someone less, you know, old in the role; he was once an essential component of the original core families and their story, like the Woleks on OLTL, and I think it could work, especially if the show has a leading male void with TK out. (As opposed to the male void Zach himself became)
Members EricMontreal22
HAHA i remember a lot of manly pats to the back But yeah, I agree with everything said here. Daniel died at 46 of sudden brain cancer leaving behind his wife and two young children. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_McDonald_(actor)
Members DRW50
He came in in late 1997. He was played by Norm Lewis, I believe. I think he worked for the DA's office and was hinted at being Belinda's love interest. He was also involved in that plane crash story. They had some moments with he and Palmer and some hints were dropped. I think something was also said in the soap press. Then when McTavih came in the character dried up. I think he was recast. He prosecuted Brooke, but after that, disappeared.
