@P.J. 1989 had the pivotal events of Roger return and Robert Calhoun becoming EP. Those events would lead to GL finally hitting its stride after some pretty bad years.

1989-1991 Calhoun/Long/Curlee was GL's last golden era but unfortunately the ratings didn't reflect the quality of the show.

It'd be a little jarring jumping into the last months of Sonni/Will, but otherwise, I can't see a downside. '89 (while Reva heavy) isn't exactly RevaOverload.

@alwaysAMCyes you should try to make it til the Summer of '99.  After that its a very different show.  The transition is certainly interesting.

I'm going to try... I still want to see Holly kidnap those kids and see her reasoning why - like does she go crazy missing Meg so much that she takes everyone else's? That seems wild to me and out of character.

Honestly the first scene of Michael Burke in his lab with the cat was the turning point for me. That scene and the subsequent clone storyline was the turn I noticed. Some of the other storylines still feel like the 'old GL' (which I know the long-term viewers are laughing LOL, but for me, as of '95...)...  but I know at some point the style for the whole show eventually changes, which sounds like late 99-early 00.

@DRW50 - thanks for posting that Locher Room interview with Kim and her husband - I haven't had a chance to watch all of it yet, but I will... but very happy she's ok.

I'm going to forget someone but Wanda, Vera and Levy are probably my top choices. I was so glad they brought Wanda back a few times after I thought she was gone for good.

I'd also go with Roger's partner in scheming, Leo Flynn. Robert Lupone was perfect in that part.

My window of time is very short, but so far I've really loved Dr. Sedgwick. There's just a sweet calmness to her that draws you in.  I was also partial to Leo, who I guess was a casualty of Zaslow's sad departure.

I loved Wanda from the little I saw of her from those clips @DRW50 posted a few weeks ago. :)

Margaret probably delivered Springfield's babies for twenty years!

Oddly, one of my favorite ATWT recurring characters was Lynn Michaels, played by Courtney Sherman, aka Mrs. Peter Simon.

Leo is delightfully smarmy.

And let's not forget Nick, our Christmas Santa.

Larry Wyatt. I liked that he was the cop who was always around during crime storylines. I forget the actor's name, but I liked him a lot.

I kind of hated how GL ended up practically overrun with cops and detectives as regular characters later on. If I want to watch a cop show, I'll watch one on prime time. Even Edge of Night didn't have that many cops.

Joe Pozeneki (and I know I've murdered the spelling of his last name). I lnpw he was on for a good decade. He was  there fir Diane Ballard's murder. The last time I recall him being mentioned was Reva's PPD disappearance.

They had this guy during Lujack's time who I liked too--but I forget his name.

Thirty.

I think I read somewhere that Dr. Sedgwick holds the record for longest non-contract role on a soap played by the same actor. Couldn't confirm that, but seems about right.

That we can remember these recurring characters proves their value.  All good choices.  I really liked it on the few occasions when Vera gave Roger the "what for".  Vera's loyalty to Peanut was wonderful.

Thinking about recurring is tough - I keep mixing them up with 13- and 26-week contract players!  Yeesh.

I liked IQ and Gina from the Gallahads, both definitely recurring.  There was Howie at The Springfield Journal.  And yet another cop from maybe 1992-1993 when Harley was in training/new to the force.  Big tall blond guy who didn't say much but was on several times.

Was Louie (at Cedar's nursing station) recurring?  If so, he easily is near the top of the list.

There was young, black woman who was a Spaulding secretary - don't remember the name.  Another Evie?  The name seems correct, but yet another Evie/Eve?  She was on from maybe 1990-1991.  Was around during the latter Carl Evans years, maybe the early Hearst period.  She was good, too.

There was Jim Haggerty, a lawyer.  Tried to romance Eve away from Nick.  He also hit on Harley.

And much to the apparent irritation of many, I very much liked YaYa, Eleni's Greek grandmama (I think she was grandma).

AND what was the name of the woman who held the deed for the Towers land deal?  (She died at Cedars).  Perhaps the actress was a 13-week contact?  Probably so.

Was the young Ben Reade (Greg Burke) a contract player?  Or recurring?

The lady who held the deed to the land under The Towers name was Ruth Price. Her reading Roger for filth was great. "I know the Devil is a gentleman..."...LOL I'm not sure of her name, and I don't recall seeing her elsewhere. Unlike Vera who I think occasionally showed up on ATWT.   Per slick jones' character guide, Ruth was played by Beatrice Winde.

Greg Burke was on the least of the three. I'm nearly positive he was never on contract.

Someone hated YaYa?

Joe Ponazecki. I think he made sporatic appearances on GL as Larry Wyatt as early as late 1978 or early 1979. I think he had more consistency around February or March in 1980, when Doug Marland took over writing duties. This was when Mike Bauer was trying to lure Roger Thorpe out in the open when they suspected Roger was back in Springfield to obtain Christina. I remember him being around until 1989, or did he make it into the 1990's...?

Still wish that Billy Fletcher had been the Kelly Nelson character. Peggy was known to the audience, although her role had been diminished. She could have been there for Billy's intro 'handing' him over to Ed and Bert and hopefully Fran Myers would have agreed to return from time to time.

Now that is a great point. I wonder why Marland didn't go this route? Maybe because he had  already brought back/SORAS'd a legacy character in the form of Tim Werner, so he instead wanted to introduce a character of his own?

I loved Levy and found him oddly sexy, I hated they got rid of him to give DuhFrank the job...if there was every someone who would not be the Chief of Police it would be Frank Cooper.

Vera I liked but she was problematic (the "Mammy Maid" thing.) I actually liked Alex's first "secretary" I forget her name but she was Nola's nanny I think and Alex hired her. I never understood why they wrote her off.

Wanda I liked but that twang she had..Oklahoma is midwestern not southern and GL never understood that.

I hated her writing but Megan McTavish as the Lola Fontaine was good, she was whore that somehow befriended Amanda ....maybe that is where the Malibu Madame came from...) and then Tony gave her a job at Company and she became part of the family before disappearing (when McTavish started writing for the show I would presume.)

I loved Leo...someoen to do Roger's bidding. I loved when Taggert was writing and both Alex and Alan had their loyal henchmen. JoanAlex had the Indian guy and Alan had a butler, who if remember was pretty cute.
