oh that's a fun game, who are the other 4 in your worst 5?  :)

Challenge! Yay.

Jeffrey O'Neill - this is a character you have yet to encounter. Let's just say he's not something to look forward to. Same problem as Ben. Just a relentless a-hole, SO unpleasant to watch. The kind of character that works great on a sitcom but is a disaster on a soap.

Lacey Bauer - I suspect the actress was cast because they thought she was cute as a button and that the audience would agree with them. We didn't. Very poorly conceived, very cringey character with a very green actress who made it that much worse.

Kelly Nelson - Don’t hate me, JWS fans. This is SOLELY about the character. I HATE that guy. I hated him 40 years ago, I hate him now. Self-satisfied, self-righteous clod who groomed an underage girl and gave HER lectures about controlling her sexual desires. I so enjoyed watching Morgan finally yeet that guy out of her life.

Tangie Hill - I struggled coming up with this final choice, but I think this is the right one. I love Marcy Walker. I think what made me the most angry was how she was wasted. Casting her was a stunt. They didn't bother to create a strong character for her, so of course the whole thing was a big, embarrassing flop.

But Judi would later tell stories of the "toxicity" from certain co-workers on Guiding Light. Since Grant would be leaving, and allegedly he and Judi were not getting along, it made sense to split them up and pair Judi with Vincent Irrizarry.

Vincent also talked on the Locher Room about problems with an unnamed male co-star when he first started on the show. I assumed he was talking about Grant, but if he was leaving anyway, it seems doubtful he would have felt threatened by VI.

Most Guiding Light fans have figured out Vincent was talking about Gregory Beecroft. Melanie Smith from ATWT also had problems with Beecroft as well.

Yes, I've heard stories about him. Not in connection with Vincent, though.

From what I understood, one of the people that tried out for Ben was Phillip Brown (Buck, Loving) and that Laura Wright had advocated for him to get the role.  He said his audition was so bad, he declined to even consider playing the role.  So it's interesting that James D of OLTL was also looked at as a possible Ben.

I remember Judi Evans stating that she once she won an Emmy for supporting actress that some of the cast mates on GL were less than warm to her.  I could sense  Beecroft being one of those performers not being too keen on her for winning an Emmy before he got one.

Wasn’t he cast and quit immediately when he couldn’t handle an hour’s worth of dialogue?

I enjoyed him very much on THE CITY and SFT

They cast the role so last minute - then they gave him five scripts to memorize and he had to recite all this legal jargon, as they were filming all his scenes from five episodes in one massive filming. As they cast him so late, he felt there was just no way he was going to pull this off (filming all his scenes from 5 shows in one day) - so he dropped out, as he felt it was impossible.

Actually he was offered the role first, and they were very close to signing a deal. But then it fell apart because P&G refused to allow him to direct some shows ( as he had in his OLTL contract to direct) - If he could get the opportunity to direct, there was no point in leaving OLTL

Gee, he thought very highly of himself!

I liked him (as an actor), but the character of Tony was never really THAT important to the show. (Did people demand he come back after he left? Not that I recall).

Judi, OTOH, got the kind of stuff to play that they love to hand out Emmys for. And she was really good. So I'm surprised her costars were surprised and/or miffed.

Was this before the young actor categories were created? Maybe it's because she was so young. I think she was only 19 when she won.

The younger categories were introduced in 1985 and I think it was because of Judi Evans supporting win in 1984. She wasn't even 20 years old and had been on GL for only one year at the time.

LOL @P.J. - I'm sorry you had to deal with that, considering how much you loved Jack/Carly.  That would have driven me crazy. Hunt was on AMC, but only for like a year, maybe even less and he was such a non-factor, that I barely remember what he did on that show and who he worked with. But now that I'm seeing him on GL, gosh he's not great. He's wooden, flubs his lines (so far), and just comes across as icky.  I like villains, but this one isn't it.

Looking back, I thank God Cady McClain came on the show. Otherwise we may never have gotten Jack and Carly. I'm convinced Goutman and Sheffer loved Craig that much.

@MLH   Phillip is probably one of those characters that you have to know from the beginning to tolerate his [!@#$%^&*] moments. I know for many Reva defines GL, but I would say her and Phillip are neck and neck, in terms of importance. I think the failure (real or perceived) in the Phillip recast with John Bolger kept them from even attempting to recast Reva. Phillip was always a character viewers wanted back. And he's probably even more teflon than Reva, as the fans always seemed to be ready to forgive him, even though he kept betraying Rick over and over.

Didn't Beth Maitland win it the year after Judi? She couldn't have been any older.

Beth Maitland was 27 in 1985, so 6 years older than Judi Evans.

Thanks! I didn't realize she was that much older. I guess because they played characters the same age, I assumed they were.
